From CNNSE:

Curran spoke with someone "very high in the organization," who said looking to overturn those penalties is not something they've yet discussed. However, Curran said the likelihood was "extremely remote" because of Patriots owner Robert Kraft's decision in May not to fight the discipline.

"To go back on that now would really cast Robert Kraft as someone going back on his word," said Curran. "As a result, it's highly, highly, highly unlikely that the Patriots would try to recoup those draft picks.

"However, there is an extreme feeling of validation (in the Patriots' organization) right now."

There are two sides to that highlighted section. What does it say about the other 31 guys in the room who would punish one of their partners EVEN though they know that their team is innocent of the charges....including the non-cooperation charge.

In one sense they would know in their hearts that they had done an immoral thing. But in a more practical sense they would set a precedence that could very well come back and haunt them at some point, (just like it did to Kraft)

I encourage you folks to look at this as impartially as you looked at this case. Most in here are viewing the Goodell to blame situation the same as opposing fans who have been screaming "the patriots are cheaters". At work do you not do what your boss tells you? Sure there could be a different commissioner who is impartial, but more often then not we will see similar situations down the road unless the system is changed. (It is only human nature)

I'd say the core principle behind his tenure is that he's a hanging judge who does whatever the hell he wants because "integrity of the game", with no regard for minor things like due process.

The only way for the NFL to fix its kangaroo process is for him to become something other than that, and I just don't think he can. That's what he is, it's what defines him as a commissioner. Might as well ask what David Ortiz is he can't pull the **** out of a baseball anymore.

It's an easy fix. Ownership simply agrees to a 3rd party arbitrator at the appeal level, and that would force the NFL front office to do a better job with the initial investigation/hearing. I get where you're going, I'm just pointing out how incredibly easy it would be for the NFL to fix this problem.

Steve Young was asked on ESPN what this means for Brady's legacy. He said that even if you still maintain that Brady did it, it is irrelevant to his legacy, since in the grand scheme of things it was an extremely minor infraction that got blown up for reasons that had nothing to do with its severity.

I am looking at it impartially. Literally nobody would have given a damn if there hadn't been a half-assed investigation into the psi of a football followed by a kangaroo court proceeding.

why am i so happy this evening ??????????????

G R E A T !!!!!!!!!!!

BELLISSIMO !!!!!!!!!!!

**** Kraft, he is weak.. There is no reason not to go after the picks. Even if you don't get them back with fighting you can at least publicly put it on record that the organization disagrees vehemently with everything..

It is perfectly reasonable to go after the picks now. Just needs to word it delicately. All he needs to say is, "In light of the US Federal Government validating what we believed which was that the process the NFL followed in determining our team's involvement and subsequent guilt in deflating footballs was faulty and lacked sufficient evidence, I have decided to explore our options in recouping our draft picks.".

Let go of the balloons, Bob....see what happens. Can't hurt.

Sure, or alternately they could just fire Goodell and appoint in his place an actual lawyer who, like all of Roger's predecessors, understands the limits of his authority and the importance of process. I think I just disagree with the notion that this is an easy fix, as either would be a pretty dramatic reversal of course from the past decade, and would basically signal an admission of defeat re: everything that Goodell's tenure as commissioner was said to represent.

Woooohooo!
Now Kraft needs to grow a pair and fight this ridiculous team fine. Why should we give up our picks and pay that stupid fine? This should have been a fine of $25k against the Pats. What a friggin circus.

Trey Wingo right now I love it :D

not many of them are worried. They'd have to have a history of (repeated post season) winning for that to happen.

No surprise that once it got out of the NFL's control the decision went Brady's way. I was still a little worried something stupid would happen but based on what we know this was the fair ruling.

**** Goodell, I don't know how the owners can keep standing behind this clown.

Its because the owners are not standing behind Goodell; at least in the since your statement means.

We need to be looking at this not as the owners standing behind Goodell as in supporting him and his actions but rather we should be looking at Goodell as the ' DESIGNATED FALL GUY IN THE OWNERS CREW' OR THE APPOINTED SACRIFICIAL LAMB WHEN THE SHxT REALLY HITS THE FAN.

This was aptly pointed out when Judge Berman required Mara co-owner of the NFL Giants to appear in court on the last day of appearances before Judge. Mara and at least 3 or maybe more owners with him are the real puppet masters of Goodell and they are paying him very well to lug their water and take the bullet when its time has arrived.
Goodell is a shill, the front guy, he has no real power all he has is a huge paycheck and a title. The NFL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE WHICH MARA is chairman of is the real power who operate in the shadows behind the curtain so the don't have to expose themselves to public scrutiny or have to explain anything.

When we understand this much of Goodell's ineptness becomes much more apparent and logical. Goodell's huge paycheck is too quietly be the fool, the bungler and the guy who takes the bullet when the time comes.

Exactly. He could claim that he first caved he had an expectation of fairness, an expectation that the court has shown to not have been met. If he doesn't pursue this, it will show that his word to the 31 means more to him than his word in February to the 53 and the fans.

Jonathan has already fired the first shot. It (or something that accomplishes a similar thing) is going to have to happen. The only question is whether Goodell is still standing when it does. I'd prefer he be gone, as I've made clear.

Whether you believe Goodell's just a puppet (damaged goods) or the point man for all this nonsense (bad man), the Ommissioner has got to go.

What ever he was....he was....but what he is now is the ...Fall Guy.

What is he saying?
Basically said that we are all exhausted and happy that it is now finally over. How tired everyone was about this whole thing. It was just funny how it was said ;)

His legacy is fine whether people think "he did it" or not. It was great click bait early on to scream that his legacy is tarnished but I do believe that will subside if it hasnt significantly already.

Even if some will say, "he got off due to the process only", the fact that Brady's punishment has been totally vacated is incredibly beneficial.

One could say "he did it" but ultimately he will not serve a game or pay a fine (barring the appeal). So it can't be that egregious of a crime if he received no discipline after all. A federal judge scoffed at the notion that this could be likened to PED use.

If anything at all, 'deflate gate' will be a minor footnote in the legacy of the GOAT.
