From the NE statement on today's ruling:

Kraft said:
Yet, with absolutely no evidence of any actions of wrongdoing by Tom in the Wells report, the lawyers at the league still insisted on imposing and defending unwarranted and unprecedented discipline.

Goddammit, Bobby!

Who the heck is Bobby?

I'm largely a defender of Bob, but that isn't good optics. Go with an even broader term like, "the league office' or "the league" if you want to be vague enough to let Goodell off the hook without appearing to do so. But to write it in a way that he's pretty much the only guy exempted is disappointing.

It is sad.

He ain't going after the picks.

Hes put the guns down for good.

That was my take..

Mike Reiss, however, believes that Kraft's statement shows anger at Goodell for allowing the lawyers (Pash and Nash) to dictate the punishment..

he's not turning into a 1 on 1 pissing contest.......lobbing grenades rarely yields anything

now during one of the owners meetings, simply stretching back in your and proclaiming 'I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the league's position in the concussion matter....I may have to rethink my position'

the concussion thing is huge, and it will only take one owner to blow the lid off of it......

So unless he calls Goodell out by name he is sucking up or caving in? That's just not correct.

Read Reiss' take then reconsider.

Reiss suggests that it's a subtle dig at Goodell for letting himself get dragged around by the nose by lawyers.

I doubt any of us can calculate the size of the egos involved here. Goodell strikes me as the type of guy who wants to be known as the guy in charge of everything even if it is an abject failure like this deflategate put-up job.

I heard reports that during the League meetings last month, Kraft sat next to Goodell and never even acknowledged him. I think Kraft blames Goodell and wants him gone. I just think he feels there is no advantage to say that publicly. I am guessing that he can get support NOW to get rid of Pash and other Goodell underlings. So he is picking his battles. Attack Pash and get rid of him and bide his time to get rid of Goodell. Just my opinion.

Bob Kraft is too smart of a guy to not know that Goodell is behind this. But Pash and others are far more vunerable right now than Goodell. So tear apart Goodell's empire one brick at a time.

Agreed. You guys are being too literal with this. He says it was an unwarranted punishment, are we pretending Kraft forgot who issued that punishment?

Hey, fair enough. If Kraft is planning ACTION here, then the lukewarm statement won't much matter.

But he hasn't really inspired confidence lately.

Kraft has made himself really hard to defend this past year. From supporting Goodell during the Rice debacle all the way through to this statement. Lost all respect for him.

That's contingent on anyone actually believing that Pash and Nash determined the punishment, though. Everyone knows it was Goodell's call. This just seems like posturing to give Goodell a fall guy. Cris Carter would be proud.

Kraft has to choose his words carefully. He signed a document that cannot publicly criticize the League or its commissioner. So he can attack the lawyers who are not employed by the NFL as a way to get around it.
