Couldn't make the Bills roster.
Because their coaching staff has no idea what a competent QB is.

In the right system with good talent around him with good coaching, Cassel has proven that he can function pretty well.

With that said hes had a string of injuries. Not sure if he has the same mobility and zip on the ball.

Leave it to Rex to make the idiotic move of starting an unproven QB who most teams wanted to convert to WR when he came into the league, backing him up with a bust that has done nothing, and cutting the only quality veteran QB he has.
By November he will be seeing if he can trade for Geno.

There will be QBs going down during the season, it will be interesting to see what's in the FA QB pool, Vick is already signed, Flynn too.

I've never been a really big fan of Cassel to be honest. I've always felt that his success in 2008 had more to do with the weak schedule than his play. Sure, he does know the system and is pretty good friends with Brady, but I think he makes too much money for them to bring him in. In this league he will probably have a team come in willing to pay him more.

If they sign Cassel and he is on the roster for week 1, isn't his contract guaranteed for the year as a vested veteran?

Having a third quarterback on the roster will be unnecessary, as the next 12-48 hours will prove.

I don't see the point in any plan that involves bringing Cassell in as permanent backup QB. I don't see it for the team and I don't see it for Cassell.

On the other hand, if he's unemployed he goes to the top of the shadow roster. He's one of two active QBs who have both played for BB and gone to a Pro Bowl.

Agreed.

I think the the assumption is that it is only appropriate for Cassell here if Brady is gone 4 games.

I know he hasn't done well since he left KC but I'd take Cassell over Triple Lindsay.

I would not take Cassell over Grapes.

Gotta see what happens to TB I think.

Robert, please don't call Jimmy G. "Grapes"

That has got to be the worst nickname of all time

Cassel on the shadow roster only. Don't want to carry 3 or a guy with no real time with this season's offense.

Folks - - - this is a NO-BRAINER!!!!!

The Pats play Buffalo (who should be their biggest divisional rival this year) on the road in 18 days.

At the very least, bring him in to get the scouting/play system.

And lose the rest of 2016s draft after the ex-Jets in the league office make this an offense retroactive to September 2015? No.
