Just as the title suggests Buffalo is rumored to release Matt Cassel.
Now what I propose is if Brady misses any games that he should be on the roster ready to step in if Grap goes down or flames out.
I can tell you this I feel OK about winning a game with Cassel as QB in a offense he is familiar with vs Lindley who hasn't taken the field yet.
Would he come here as a possible number 2 number 3 QB?
Thoughts?

I know he hasn't done well since he left KC but I'd take Cassell over Triple Lindsay.

I would not take Cassell over Grapes.

Gotta see what happens to TB I think.

If Cassel can be gotten cheaply I would absolutely be in favor of the Pats signing him. If Brady is playing well near the end of his contract and Cassel is a backup, it would make it pretty easy to trade Jimmy G. Unlike Mallet, I think Jimmy G could fetch a decent pick in a trade.

Agreed. Would much prefer Cassel over Lindley in the #3 role. At least he's familiar with the offense and Jimmy'd have two experienced guys to groom and mentor him.

Besides... in the (unlikely) event that TB12 sits for four games, I'd feel a lot better about having Cassel as my backup behind Jimmy.

Pull the trigger, Bill!

Cassel?!?!?!

"And the circle of liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife..." ;)

Replace Cassel and instead insert any human in human history and I still vote for option 1.

Definitely tempting if we discover Brady's suspension is upheld. We could have him as a "just in case" Garropolo gets injured or stinks. I'd actually feel pretty decent about it. Cassel played good in our system under Josh and we have a pretty good receiving core. He could probably play well here where he couldn't on other teams.

I'm sure the Bulls are desperately looking for a way to unload him without him coming to us.
Rex knows he works the best with our system.
I could see Washington or Jacksonville conditional pick for him which Buffalo would gladly accept to take him out of our hands.
However I don't know if any team would take on that cap.

Couldn't make the Bills roster.

It all really depends. If he could be had for the vet minimum, I would definitely bring him in behind Garoppolo ONLY IF I really believed Brady would be out any significant amount of time. Since that's so uncertain, I don't think he will be signed here anytime soon.

If anything, we may see Bill plan to roll with Garoppolo and Lindley for Week 1. If Brady is available, he dumps Lindley. If Brady isn't available, he won't have had much time to sign Cassel yet and he just keeps those two guys. Then after the opener, he dumps Lindley and signs Cassel, and his salary is no longer guaranteed since Week 1 has passed.

It should be noted his salary was a bit high. They figured they shouldn't have to pay a backup QB multiple millions of dollars. Can't say I totally blame them, although that QB room will be sorely lacking in the experience department.

I think if Cassel is released, he goes to Houston and they cut Mallett.

Would Cassel count among the actives as a emmergency QB?
