Respect. I hear what you're saying, but "meh" production is all we need. I would feel comfortable with a vet presence who can play all aspects of the game to spell Blount and bring the younger guys along. The age concerns me a bit, as some have said, but I still think this guy is perfect for our team and offense. With all of the other guys I've seen suggested for "sign the beast," this is one I would feel extremely good about.

Why? Why do we need anything? There's already a backlog of RBs on the team, and the last thing there's room for is an over-the-hill RB with drastically declining health and production who doesn't play special teams.

If you are looking for a number 1 RB, yes most probably. But if you want a better receiving RB -- especially someone who is better at pass protection -- than who we have so far then I don't see a problem bringing him in and checking him out. Nobody expects him to rush for 1k..

Better than Dion Lewis? You sure about that?

--

I don't understand the need to go get a 34 year old RB who's best days are 3 years behind him (4 now, if you go by the calendar), just because he had a couple of good games against the Patriots.

Seriously. We good at running back, y'all. If he played Guard or Cornerback, that might be a different story.

You emphasized a part of a sentence and missed my own emphasis afterwards. Yes I think that Jackson is a better blocker than Lewis. Again we are not creating a fantasy team where he needs tons of yards and TDs.

But it doesnt mattrr anyway, looks like he will join Seattle.

A couple years ago I would've been bullish on bringing him in. Now, not so much. He might have a little left in the tank, but if the Pats are going to chance a roster spot on RB uncertainty, I'd rather they went with Lewis/White/Cadet.
There is no question that Fred Jackson has done well vs the Pats. I think it is this reason most fans on fixated on signing him.

He has talent but is 34 years old and is a tweener. Hes not an everydown RB, hes not a hammer and hes not a 3rd down RB.

Because of his age you are not going to have him be a core member of ST.

There is zero chance he comes here.

I really like Lewis and hoped he make the roster even if it's a long shot but if Jackson is available, I see that as an upgrade.

Fred is definitely a Pats-type signing, but I'd bet good money against it coming at the expense of Lewis. That is a negative value proposition.

Allow me to clarify, what I meant was "we'd" need. As in if he were signed, we would not need much more than "meh" production. I certainly see your side of the argument and I don't entirely disagree. I just feel he would definitely add something to the team, even if not at the level of past years. I'll be fine either way the team decides is really the bare bones of it for me.

Good. This goes the way of Evan Mathis and Adam Seward. Nice to dream but never close to reality.

I really don't mind the guys we have. Lewis has looked good and I liked what White did in NOLA.

Not that I want him back, but does anyone now how Ridley is doing in NJ? Just out of curiosity.

Fred Jackson pass blocking L5 yrs:
443 plays
only 1 sack allowed
9 QB hits
Over 5 yrs! Insane #s, considering QBs.

@SharpFootball

Did Bufalo have anybody paying QB
Fred Jackson expected to sign with Seattle.

Seems like baring injuries the SeaHags are going to have a easy ride to the NFCC-Game.

He was more of a luxury than a necessity.

I'm fine with Jackson going to Seattle. Doesn't strengthen anyone we're likely to play this year, and I don't think he would've been much of an upgrade here anyway. I know he doesn't have a ton of carries on him, but 34 is 34. I'd rather see what the RB that he won't be displacing (probably Lewis) has to offer.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll called Fred Jackson's visit "not a signing."
