Pretty funny that Oklahoma had not one but two FlexWings ~ Spry Flies!! ~ in the 2014 Draft Class ~ one called a WideOut, the other an HalfBack!! ~ and we've already had both'f'm around here.

Roy Finch being the other.

Former Jet too. Cut in September of rookie year after being a fourth round pick. Would be delicious to see him do well here.

I think the less we see Edelman punt returning the better....it is physical contact he doesn't need

You know, I've heard this before and I don't really get it. Are there punt returners dropping all over the place? I mean sure, he could get hurt there just like he could on a receiving play. But punt returns are sort of important. And he's really good at it.

I mean, I see the point about not having, say, Gronkowski blocking on a PAT. But Edelman & punts seems to be working pretty well.

Maybe I am being safety first, but I can't get that image of him getting wiped out against SD out of my head. If someone can do the job as well as him, for me, it is unnecessary. You won't see NYG put ODB there Atlanta putting JJ in that position.

But yes, I am maybe being a ****y...In Bill we trust

And who do we have at WR if Edelman gets hurt that inspire confidence??Amendola??? I hope we don't come to that. Edelman is now a legit WR someone else should take up that slack. Wouldn't mind him back there for a spark or for a important fair catch situation but that's it.

absolutely! Good move to free up Edelman from punt return duties. The Pats needed a KO returner and Saunder can fill both duties.

IMO, this is may be the end for Cadet. His shot at a roster spot was mainly as a returner IIRC since White and Lewis are looking decent so far as third down backs, but with Saunders specializing as a returner, don't see the fit for Cadet.

Hey, maybe Saunders can be a third-down back of sorts :) it's mostly just catching dump-offs and then using your vision to make a play. Seems like something that plays to his strengths lol.

I am a little confused by the move. Maybe it's conditional upon the kid making the roster but I don't see how that's possible, there's only one game left and it's not like the bottom of the WR depth chart has been bad (Harper's looked great), and they just signed Wayne. Maybe they think Saunders is more pro-ready and they want to put Harper on the practice squad for a year? I just don't fully understand the move.

Meh, this is almost certainly a week long audition for a player the team is interested in having on the PS. If the Patriots had enough healthy bodies to play this week, they likely wouldn't have made it.

I doubt it says much about Cadet. He is on thin ice with or without this move.

Last year we carried 5 receivers to start the season, 6 if you count Slater. Last year it was Edelman, Amendola, LaFell, Dobson, Thompkins. This year it looks like it will be Edelman, Amendola, LaFell, Dobson, Wayne. Harper to PS.

Hard to see where Saunders fits into the picture unless they are putting LaFell on regular season PUP or one of Wayne or Dobson gets cut. Amendola returned kick offs and Edelman returned punts last year. Harper was filling that role during preseason, guess Belichick wasn't that impressed if he went and got Saunders. Maybe they got Saunders to return punts because they don't want to stress Edelmans injury recovery.

That's what I think. Sign him to the PS if he isn't claimed after final cuts and no loss of a pick. He's not making the 53.

You guys are acting like a trade guarantees a roster spot or something when we don't know the conditions of the trade.

The condition could be a 2042 7th round pick if Saunders discovers a cure for cancer, for ****'s sake.

I think the less we see Edelman punt returning the better....it is physical contact he doesn't need, and he is far too important.

I would only want to see him do it if everyone else was terrible and a liability...far too much risk
It's tough thought when he's got a career ypr of 12+ equal to Devin Hester.....

trading for a bunch of guys that wont make the roster.
williams, that TE named cleveland, now saunders..why???

These idiots and their due diligence and attempts at maximizing the value of a pick through trade for a better-known commodity make me so angry!

A conditional 7th round pick traded for a guy who can run back punts for the team for a game and then get cut so that the team doesn't have to worry about who to put out there on punt returns for the last preseason game seems like a very Belichick thing to do.
