Shannon Sharpe on First Take (deflategate)

so here's another so-called expert, one step removed from dealing crack in the hood, because he could catch a football, is now suddenly a legal and scientific expert.

Back under your rock Shannon.

I don't understand why any self respecting patriots fans would watch or listen to this clown. We already know what hes going to say. As far as the IGL, Sharp is lucky if he can spell his name, never mind understanding gas laws.

It is extremely rare for me to watch First Take, since it can at best be only called entertainment, and should never be quoted by anybody to back an opinion. But I did happen to catch it today, and seeing Sharpe in his pink suit was like driving past an accident; I couldn't help myself, and slowed down to take a look.

His stance was both predictable and laughable. But what caught me is a phenomenon that so many mainstream sports media use as their starting point on this topic - even when there are two sided 'debating', scripted or not.

How is it that so very many completely ignore the Ideal Gas Law, and don't get called out for it? This results in a starting point on the discussion that is completely off base! People begin the conversation that New England's footballs were substantially below the PSI that they should have been, and therefore the only way that could have happened is if somebody purposely let air out.

That results in all further discussion being way off target. And because of that Brady and the Patriots are presumed to be guilty in the court of public opinion. There are so very few that don't start at that point that they are written off as homers or conspiracy theorists. The message, whether implied or explicitly stated - that the footballs were intentionally deflated - has been repeated so very many times over the last several months that it is now accepted as fact.

The NFL got what it wanted with the initial highly erroneous leaks to Mortensen and King. Beyond their mouthpieces on ESPN and NFLN, other sports journalists - many of whom are otherwise very professional - begin their thought process with the idea that the footballs had to have been manually deflated. Due to that flawed assumption, it is no wonder that so many fans and sports writers reach an inaccurate conclusion in regards to this case.

moderator interrupts Jeff Saturday(he was talking about minesotta/GB game - heating up the ball) and says
'Sota got a warning. NFL didn't warn pats/brady.'

Shannon Sharpe goes
'that's not what I was told. That's not what I was told. they were told multiple occasion.'

wut? we got a warning?

I don't know if (as somebody wrote earlier) Sharpe was just making things up as he went along or what. But in this instance he needs to back that up with facts. Now some lie turns into a rumor, and then the rumor becomes accepted as fact. 'Yes, it's true; I heard it on ESPN! They couldn't say it if it wasn't true!' Once again the NFL and their leak/PR department gets what they wanted.

Again, as @BradyFTW! pointed out earlier: if this was indeed a fact then the NFL would have brought that up earlier - in either justifying the original fine and docking of draft picks, or in the Wells Report or Brady appeal. It's just another false rumor that has been repeated so often that it is now accepted as a fact.

Mortensen must have told him about these mythical multiple warnings. Or he read it in a post from a user names "Hatriot4Lyfe" on a Colts message board. Same level of credibility, either way.

About 99% sure that the NFL would've argued that in court if it was the case. Which means that Sharpe is just making **** up as he goes along like usual.
Only 99%?

Thanks to the OP for giving us enough of the gist of what was going on so we didn't have to give ESPN a click. No one should ever give those bastards the time of day. Whatever small semblance of fairness ESPN had left, was essentially obliterated with today's First Take.

We were wondering yesterday what the NFL would do if Berman ruled against them today. Well we saw a preview with Sharpe's nonsensical diatribe. When Berman vacates Brady's suspension in the next day or two, the league office will continue their PR campaign through their proxies like the NFL network and ESPN.......and I'm glad.

It's clear to me that the NFL will try to brazen this through, and appeal this as far as they can go. Literally the NFL strategy at THIS point is to lawyer them to death. They will keep this thing going for years if necessary until the entire country, including us, will beg them to stop. They will keep it going until people are so sick of it, no one will care any more one way or the other. So when it does finally end in the next year or so, it won't be with a bang, but a whisper. And even though I would like to believe Brady would prevail, so what. No one will care at that point, including us.

In the mean time the NFL with its vast resource will simply try to out shout their critics. They have proven that there are more than enough mediots willing to sell their integrity and souls, and spread their narrative effectively enough to keep the dogs at bay. Eventually their critics will simply get tired of fighting them regardless of how much evidence they have on their side. We can see the effects already. I know I'm pretty tired of it and the real battle has yet to start.

Sorry for the rather bleak forecast, but its the one we will get, rather than the one we want. The good news is we in all likelihood will get our QB back for this season. The bad news is that we will NOT get any satisfaction of a battle won. We will still be left with the general perception of being cheaters, and those draft picks will be lost forever.

There is one solution though, and that's the defamation suit. Not only will it bring to light the enormity of the injustice that was done to BOTH Brady and the Pats, it will also expose AND PUNISH (financially) all the miscreants who perpetrated this fraud to the nation. In the end it will create a 9 figure windfall for a lot of charities, restore Brady's legacy and it might even get our picks back.

So this continued attack by the NFL through ESPN is a good thing because it will not only make it clear to Brady the NECESSITY of going through a defamation suit, it will make it that much easier to prove.

Really Shannon? And who where these multiple people you heard that from?

Surprising after 7 months of intense media scrutiny, a 243-page investigative report, appeal hearings and a case before a Federal Court Judge this is the first anyone has ever heard that the Patriots and Brady had been warned previously about ball issues. What a scoop Shannon.

If you tell a lie enough times eventually everyone begins to believe it's the truth I guess. Funny how no one ever names a source in this day and age. Guess it's a good thing (for ESPN) journalistic integrity isn't on trial.

Considering he played for a two-time SB cheat*, he should recuse himself from chiming in. That's if anyone can understand the unintelligible gibberish emanating from his loquacious pie-hole in the first place.

Shannon never was the Sharpest tool in the shed....

This has really been bothering me. People used to actually get into trouble for slandering others. Now, BSPN is free to repeat lie after lie and nobody holds them accountable. Well, they did give that 12:20 am retraction...

i mean these idiots completely ignore ideal gas law. they still talk as if the ball was significantly deflated and only way for it to happen is to stick a needle.
Gas law? These "people ", fans, whatever, go by what is there to spew the gospel of Gotohell. They don't have an F'n clue. I heard that POS, Chris Simms on "the fan" this morn. That idiot hasn't got a clue either. Jeez, I literally hate everybody anymore. Does anyone have an unbiased opinion? What a mess our society is. WTF?

oh my gawd.

this guy takes to a new level. did you guys watch/listen to his take?

debate starts at around 15min. and listen to 1:00(1hr) mark
http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=13550394&s=espn

wow, talk about sucking up to goodell and hating on brady.

some of things he said. it's comical.

This is disturbing. First take is probably most watched/listened show. no wonder why fans think brady is guilty 100%. Seriously, Sharpe sounded like a bitter Colts fan back in Feb.

Why watch it?

I guess Berman can't vacate the suspension based on notice since Sharpy said they were told multiple times then.

Espn huh. nope i didnt watch/listen.. domain is blocked on my router.. why you people even bother hitting that site is beyond me.
Espn is like listening to the owners. Really, it is contrived , coerced BS. These "reporters" are afraid for their jobs. It's like Escobar. Living in fear. Sad really. I hope this judge sees thru this crap

Hay ba fat ba Albert

Sharpe is one of the stupidest humans on the planet, not even sure why anyone would watch him...he should be on commercials for not dropping out of school or for birth control.
Another dummy for the MFL to "use".

Back in May or June I tweeted to Shannon how I was sorry he had lost the most recent horse race, and that I hoped his owners gave him enough hay and oates to do better next time. He came back with some nonsense "Yeah well your girlfriend beat me by 3 steps" or something like that, I can't remember. It was fast, like within 5 minutes. He must see hundreds of those a day. Does he sit there replying to every negative tweet he gets? I was shocked and a little proud of myself...I was able to successfully troll Shannon Sharpe.

If any of you tweet him, telling him he was the head they modeled the new Broncos logo from is a soft spot. Troll away!
