Bills release Fred Jackson

Lets not underestimate the pass-blocking value of a 3rd down back.

I know Belichick doesn't.

Dude is a flat out warrior and genuine leader - can't have too many of those.

Reggie Wayne says hi...
Reggie Wayne was signed to a contract, how does that prove that Fred Jackson can still play? The guy is a 34 year old running back. In wide receiver years that's like 44.

I guess the point is it won't hurt to kick the tires on him to see if he has anything left.
Of course it doesn't hurt to give him a tryout, I just don't care to eat up a roster spot with a guy who is beyond the age where RBs ever succeed.

If we sign him then that must mean no White and Cadet? Blount, Gray, Lewis, and Jackson? Was thinking White was starting to look pretty decent.

Your first sentence doesn't really go with the second. If you give him a tryout and he's good, you'd sign him.

If the Patriots give him a tryout but don't sign him, there would be no effect on the roster, hence it wouldn't "hurt".

You don't give him a tryout if you're not thinking of signing him. Hence the failure of your first sentence to go with the second.

Do you not understand what a tryout is?
Let me make this simple. I don't want Fred Jackson here. If Bill disagrees and brings him in for a tryout, I don't care, as long as he isn't signed.

Ok, you're making no sense at all. No need to continue this. Your position is both wrong and completely out of whack with itself.

jackson is a Belichick type of guy who adds to the team on & off the field.

I thought he looked good the other day. He has a long run on his 1st carry & then went airborne on a 1 yard run that really impressed me.

I would take the 34 year old Jackson over White.

White is brought down by the 1st guy that touches him 90% of the time. I don't think White could break through a wet paper bag.

I'd love to see them bring Jackson in and see what he can do. He plays hard and may have one more season in him.

We once signed a 34-year-old running back named Fred Taylor, who previously had spent the entirety of his career with one team.

That worked out pretty decently.

Why not sign Fred Jackson as well...

I'm all for a Fred Jackson signing. He'd be great insurance as our 3rd down option, or could end up taking over that role entirely if he still has some left in the tank. White has potential but easily could come up short like last year, and while I like what Lewis has done this preseason, he's never managed to stick on an NFL roster.

On top of that, right now Blount is the only true veteran RB presence who's likely to make the team. I love what Blount has been able to do here, but he's not exactly a "locker room" guy. FJax would certainly bring that focus and work ethic.

What's the thinking on James White? I'd think it'd be Freddy or him. Liked him vs NOLA and didn't see him in the other games.

Blount, Jackson, Gray, Lewis, Bolden, White/Cadet is a pretty decent RB group.

No superstars, but a solid rotation. Each guy can do a different thing well. Great for situational football.
