Will there be a WTF Move this year?

Let me make sure I understand. Assume we win the SB again :) We would get pick 32 in the first round, but that is lost due to sanctions. We trade Jimmy G to another team for, let's say, the #5 draft pick. Are you saying that #5 pick would be relegated to #32?

If that's the case, and we conspire with the other team to select our choice at #5 and then trade Jimmy G for that player, would that be permitted under NFL rules?

The #5 would be forfeited.

I agree that there is usually an unexpected move before each season but There is really no way to predict who it'll be before it happens because these moves are almost always contract related and there is virtually no way to know what's happening in those conversations which is why the move is unexpected when it happens.

Am I hallucinating, or did I somehow stumble into the "Friends and Family of James Sanders" forum?

The Patriots lost the second SB against the Giants mainly because Gronk was at 20% (at best). Now his mother and his agent are on this site suggesting that letting this solid but unspectacular fellow go was one of BB's greatest blunders? And that he was somehow the difference between winning and losing the Super Bowl? Good grief!

Brady traded to the Jets. For next two years first rounders. Any takers?

I don't want to trade Garoppolo but win the SB, trade him for 33 and another high pick in 2017 plus the 2017 4th to really troll Goodell.

This. I would like nothing more than for the Patriots to win the Super Bowl again and then trade into the first spot in the second round on draft day. The screams would be globally audible and I would not be able to stop laughing.

The 32 would be the first pick of the second round.

I'm thinking that #12 fella might not make the 53 man roster. We'll see

I could see it being Harmon/Chung depending on how much BB likes his STers and how much Jordan Richards progresses in practice.

How about signing Reggie Wayne, and then cutting Reggie Wayne?

After that, look towards a shocker trade getting value from Garrapolo, as in a #1, not next year (given goodells penalty) but in 2017. That would blow up the Internet for sure!

I've seen this theory before posted here, in terms of not being able to make a trade for a first rd pick next year. Is that because Goodell changed the wording to include the higher of the two picks or something?

In other words, we lost our low first rounder in 2008 (#31), yet still had no issue with using SF's selection at #7. Is that different now going forward?

Edit: I see someone else addressed this on a previous page. I must have missed where Goodell changed the wording post-2008.

Yes, in his penalty Godell said that if the Pats acquired another first round pick, the lower pick will be forefieted, so trading for a first rounder next year would be futile.

But, in theory, we could still make a trade for a first rounder. It would simply mean that we'd have the pick at #32.

I'd have to imagine that there are some players Belichick would be okay with moving for the #32nd pick, particularly if the team is between 25-31.

If we do, we'll get a first round pick again but it will be the lowest of the two. In other words we'd be giving up a very good player for a low first.

The sanctions are that the Pats lose the lowest 1st round pick even if it is another teams that was obtained via trade? Could you send a link to this interpretation.

Yeah, the jets. That is monumentally stupid.
Hey, Thread title said WTF trades. At this point, this and trading Gronk will be my WTF moment. I have seen it all except that.

No, the way Godell worded it, was say the Pats win the SB (again), and somehow trade for what ends up being pick # 15, then the Pats would forefiet the earlier puck, 15.

So basically whatever BB traded to get that pick, he would not see anything back for it.

Jimmy G (QB) to KC for Sean Smith (CB) and Knile Davis (RB)
As much as I love the thought of Jimmy G being future of the Franchise, Id highly entertain the thought of this trade. Smith is a top 10 CB with size and physical ability to matchup with anyone. He's facing a 3 game suspension, and is in his last year with the team. I also think he's one of the better CB's who you won't have to pay Sherman-Revis type money too. Him and Eric berry are both UFA's after the season, so the Franchise tag will more then likely be used on Berry. They also just drafted Marcus peters who's having a great camp. Could this be our next Talib like trade? I think so!
