Easley's explosion is back

I don't know where this rumor got started about Chandler Jones not being good at setting the edge. He's been solid at that assignment since his first year. Chandler has ALWAYS been a well round DE.

I'm still cautiously optimistic about Easley but he really flashed last night when Patricia let loose the dogs. I still question his ability to get off of blocks but when they use him in conjunction with blitzes (which they will) or in obvious passing downs there's going to be a lot of issues caused by him. That entire front is young and really, really good. I think they're going to be much better than last year's defense.

Zach Moore is cooked. Chris Jones is in danger. I just don't see how you cut Rufus. Does Branch survive, based mostly on his enormous body and nothing else? Damn, tough decisions here.

Are you on twitter? If so, just follow @Rich-Hill. He's great for these.

Edit: Pretty sure that's Tarrell Brown #31. Hadn't seen that - he really knocked that RT back. Brown was very impressive last night.
Thanks for the info, Max. That was really Brown? He must have been playing the slot that play because it looked like he was coming up from the middle of the formation. At any rate it was an outstanding play.

But as for Twitter, I'm a flip phone man. I can never understand texting when it's easier to just call and speak to the one your communicating. I guess its a generational thing and I'm in the wrong generation. So for now, I'm going to have to rely on you.

I always thought he was one of the better DE against the run since he's been here. It is his pass rush that I think needs a bit more consistency.

I'm from your generation Ken. Texting is useful, for me, as an alternative to email, when the message is short and you don't need an instant response.

Jones, Ninkovich, Sheard, Easley, Brown, Siliga. One of the best DL rotations in the league.
Awesome, thanks.

I remember back in the day when Terry Glenn made a lame and unsuccessful attempt at catching a ball, and the announcer said "Not a whole lot of want on that play by Glenn."

Easley showed some serious "want" on these two plays. A great sign.

I'd love to see him rush the passer with the same body angle that he attacked the run on. I think he is so much more effective when he stays low and accelerates off the first step. Just watch the difference between the run play and the pass. I know he gets the sack, but that was because of his hands and feet, not his explosion.

BTW- on the run I happened to notice Malcolm Brown on that play. I like the way he controlled his man and the nimble feet that got him down the line to the ball. Also just a bit too high for my taste, but nice to see.

Easley impressed the heck out of me last night - that's the guy I thought he'd be!
.
Cam is strong, but Easley was able to bring him down with just one hand. It even looked like fingers.

Geez. That sack was nice but that run stuff was awesome.

@PP_Rich_Hill: It's been against back-ups, but Xzavier ****son has quietly been consistently good.

7th DE on the PS awwwww yeah.

Brown was playing the slot in nickel last night. You'll see Supafly and I had a very brief discussion about it in the thread you started last night.

And I'm happy to oblige.

What I'm still waiting from Chandler Jones that would make him into a significant pass rusher in this league, is the explosive bull rush. Too often, IMO, I still see him using that hesitation step move to try and get by OT's. For once I just want to see him just explode off the ball with a great first step and walk the OT back to the QB. Do that a few times and make the OT fear it, and he can THEN use those other moves

Interesting that Easley played some RDE in the previous two games but I don't remember seeing him there at all last night.

I noticed that as well. Last week he was playing end and would pop up out of his stance, shake his shoulders, and pick a shoulder to run at in pass. That's not going to work in the NFL nor is it his best skill set. Like you said, he's best served coming out low and just shooting gaps like when he blew up that outside zone in the vine clip. On that sack, it didn't hurt that Collins exploded into the line, opened a crater in it, put the fear of god in the qb, and forced the back to tackle him. I thought that his best production last night came from his bull rushes completely collapsing the pocket and letting his help mop up. He's put quite a few high quality bulls on tape this preseason.

Thought it was 37. Gave me a Rodney Harrison flashback.
