I know fullback isn't a vital role, but it's a nice option to have on certain plays. Even if Develin does recover and return midseason, I wonder whether the Pats should add depth behind that position.

A possible candidate would be Trey Millard, who is still under his rookie contract with the 49ers. SF doesn't really have the roster space for him. He tore his ACL in October 2013, fell to the 7th round and didn't play at all last season. Because San Fran is pretty deep at RB and FB, Millard hasn't had a chance to do much but play special teams in the preseason.

According to @Wilfork#75, Millard can lead block as a FB, run and catch it out of the backfield, line up at TE and even slot WR. Not to mention, he was also Oklahoma's best special teams player.

I say we offer a low-round draft pick for the man. What do you think?

[Belichick voice] Any special teams value? [/Belichick Voice]

I would think so. He was a 5-10, 250b NT that got 9 sacks in his senior year at Wake Forest and is noticeably more athletic than Develin. He's as hard nosed as they come. Experience at FB is limited but as far as character goes, he was one of my favourite ever prospects. He's with the Giants but they have Hynoski so I don't think there's any he chance he makes the team.

Normally I'd say "sure", but thanks to the owner, we're a little short on draft picks this upcoming season.

Actually we're not when it comes to late round picks. We'll probably get three compensatory picks next year (including a 3rd) and we have the Mallett trade too. We'll probably end up with three 6th round picks and two 7th round picks.

Anyone that was in the draft forum around the 2014 draft knows how much I love Millard. I see him as a slightly less athletic version of Marcel Reece. He's not as good a lead blocker as Develin, but that's because Develin is very good. Millard would offer a ton of versatility on offense and contribute as a core special teamer.

This is an example of his versatility, lining up all over the place

Check out the play at 3:15!

If we are after a pure lead blocker though, manx's guy Whitlock could be a beast. We could even try Shaq Mason, who a lot of people around here thought could be a monster fullback in the pre-draft evaluations because of his lack of ideal height for an OG.

I can concur about your passions for Millard. As a joking aside though, I saw you earlier say that Williams and Millard were your two binkies of the previous two drafts. A blocking TE and a FB? C'mon man, set your sights higher :p

I take pleasure in the simple things :D

But they already traded the 7th, and you can't trade comp picks, not to mention comp picks come at the end of the round (if we win SB, I guess that doesn't matter ;) ).

So by saying trade you are giving up a 6th. Video above looks good, but seems like is best to take your chances to pick him up if the 9ers try to PS him, or just live with hooman or the former-TE/OL (Williams -the 7th given up for) to use in that FB role otherwise. Preserve the draft capital due to the stolen picks.

Who was the 7th round trade you are thinking of? Michael Williams? That was for a 2017 7th rounder. And there's the 7th rounder we got from Mallett that could still be traded. I'm pretty sure we have two 7th, both of which are tradeable. Not that I'm advocating for one necessarily, just saying we have the picks if we needed to.

Right on, Brother. I believe that that's exactly right: 2 7th Rounders, 1 6th, et cetera in 2016.

Love this Thread.

WingBacks ~ what you Earthlings call FullBacks or H-Backs, depending on how they're deployed ~ can make a considerably more dynamic Impact on a Team's Championship Chances than the alleged "Skill" Positions, and you guys are talking about a couple of guys that were SuperBinkies of mine, as well!!

I actually mocked both of them to us in 2014!!

Likewise, as to the implicit Question: Which would you trade for, if either?

I liken it to The Eternal Question: Cracked Crab or Lobster???

With 2 7th Rounders...Why not both??? :D

SignbabyGronk. I hear he is a fb at kstate.

Use a 6 or 7 on this small fellow, LaQuan McGowan ;)
