Aaron Dobson

I'm not sure its an effort issue. IMO it seems more like a lack of football instincts issue and playing smart.

If it was truly an effort issue both these guys would have been sent packing a long time ago.

Your probably right I didn't know what to call it so I used "effort", but it could be football smarts and in either case it makes them questionable but as I always say BB always knows best.

I haven't seen much to be excited about and I have very little faith that Aaron Dobson is going to become a quality WR on this team. I hope I'm wrong.

And can anyone explain to me how Tillman wasn't down by contact? Why was he able to get the ball while on the ground, get up and run with it. He's clearly in contact with Dobson when he gets possession, so he should be down right there.

The only thing I can think of is that the Ref's saw as that Dobson had not completed the catch or had full control of it yet. Or that they both were fighting for possession. Strange play either way.

I don't have any issue with the complaints about his play. Should have fought for the ball. Should have run a better route. I'm going to give him a break on two counts:
  1. First live action in a while with full speed corners aggressively fighting for the ball and jumping routes. He's hardly taken any practice snaps much less live snaps in a long time.
  2. The Patriots have no one else like him with his combo of speed and size.
For these reasons and the general lack of healthy receivers, esp. if LaFell stays on PUP, I don't think his spot is in any jeopardy. I don't hear anyone complaining that Wayne dropped an easy pass. We all understand he's thinking too much right now. Maybe the same for Dobson.

Dobson should have had 3 catches (on 5 targets) for 85 yards (28.8 avg) last night. He had control and was down.
Saw him down like you did but they ruled a INT, but then I dont get how Peanut CANT be down? Dobson and him have contact, and he has everything there basicly can be on the ground.

Gronk was down vs Denver last year do to contact in the air. So IF Dobson aint down by contact, then Peanut should be right?

Any who happens to know the rules better then me around, then plz explain :)

As much as I would like to say he was down it looked like an int. the ball was not secured. Can't argue with the call.

Anyone else feel like this guy got the **** end of the stick in yesterdays pre season game? On the first interception, he beat the defender deep, won the battle for a highly contested ball, came down with it and Tillman stripped it, in my opinion after Dobson came down with it. Who else on the roster could have gotten behind the defense and jumped for that the way he did? On the second interception, that was just a poor decision.
It seems like Brady is trying to get him involved wich is a good thing, but anything outside of a circus catch and this guy is gonna be rediculed by tons of people.

Dobson was responsible for the first INT and at least partly responsible for the second int. He earned that **** end of the stick.

Dobson should have had 3 catches (on 5 targets) for 85 yards (28.8 avg) last night. He had control and was down.

Had the ref ruled the other way, we would be saying how great it is to have Dobson as a downfield threat with his 2 big receptions downfield.

Whatever his problem is, he's just not getting it done. Injuries, lack of aggressiveness? IDK, but he never fails to disappoint me. It's a shame. we need him and I want him to succeed. Bummer

Going strictly from last night's game Dobson put nothing discouraging on tape and made himself look like a valuable player. People are going to sh*t on him though because it's convenient and one does not have to watch the actual game to notice receivers.

Anybody have the time of the first int, now that i have the game tape?

On the second one, I don't think there was anything more dobason could have done, unless he had a grip of steel. The pass was thrown well behind him, as his momentum was carrying him in the opposite direction. The defender, on the other hand, used his whole body as a lever, twisting the ball away.

From a physics standpoint[?] Dobson couldn't put any of his weight behind trying to wrestle the ball back, his whole body, minus his hands, had already run past the play.

I still hold onto hope for Dobson because he has the size/speed combo we want in an outside receiver. However he really needs to increase his mindset and compete level to win a roster spot and take it to the next level. If Dobson fought as hard and worked as hard as Edelman is there any doubt he would be a success given his natural athletic advantages?

Only Caveat - Dobson must stay healthy for this to happen.

OK, watched the first one too. I don't see anything on either interception to indicate a problem or a trend. On #1, he was in mid air and juggled it and the defender, again got leverage by sticking his arm in while juggling. He could have caught it, but he didn't. didn't see any lack of effort or competing for the ball, just a tough catch. Spread over a season, you wouldn't notice. Because they were in the same game and he hasn't played, looks like a trend, but it's not IMO.

Nothing he took to heart, obviously.

Based on your passive aggressive use of the "Funny" icon I understand where you stand on Dobson, wich is fine and that's your opinion. It would be nice if you could add a little more to the thread than passive aggressive emojis and a comment like this though. Maybe back it up with reasons why you don't believe in him, or why you think he will flame out.

Gunna have to disagree with the general consensus here after watching the first int in super slow mo.
-Dobson had Tillman well beat and Tom put the ball in a position where the db could make a play and the vet made it.
-Dobson had to stop his momentum , turn back the other way to grab the ball, which he did for a split-second But it was right in Tillman's face and the moment the ball hit Dobson's hands he swatted his arm and knocked it loose.
-Dobson continued trying to regain possession to the ground but Tillman/Tillman's arm was in better position to secure it.

Let's face it if those interceptions were thrown by Jimmy , Dobson wouldn't be getting nearly this much grief over it. The GOAT is not incapable of a few poor plays people. Also would like to add that through Dobson's thus-far disappointing career here, I have seen what happened to him numerous times last night, happen quite a few times. He beats coverage and the throw is off the mark. I attribute it to the fact we are used to throwing to 5'9" shifty guys not 6'3" guys with actual speed. Throws consistently end up behind him.

That first pick was all on Dobson.

100%

If he can't make that play, he doesn't belong in the league.
