Now that Develin is done for the season, who will be the team's fullback?

I'm just thankful that BB in a fit of pique didn't have the player put down.

You will never see Lyerla in a Pats uniform. Anybody remember his comments about the Sandy Hook shooting? He claimed it was a conspiracy and the kids weren't really dead....

I attended a fundraising youth play put on in Newtown a couple of summers ago by that community starring kids who were friends and siblings and neighbors of those little ones who were massacred.

What I now hope for Mr. Lyerla's fate in this life and any possible following lives cannot be printed.

More on James Develin, per team source: Broken tibia, surgery scheduled in Charlotte. Described as clean break. Hope is 6-8 week recovery.

I'd be amazed if he's back that quickly. My wife had the same thing and her recovery was considerably longer. Granted, she's older and not a jock, but still, the bone will knit at it's own pace, and then there's rehab to build up muscle after lack of use. Anyway, how does IR work? Can he come back for he playoffs if he's placed on IR?

This would seem to solidify Hooman's place on the team. Unless Asante Cleveland or Jimmay Mundine can fit that role but they seem like PS candidates at this point. It would be cool to see Michael Williams or Mason as FB though.

IR-DTR = IR - Designated to Return.

Each team can designate 1 player for this per year.

Watch for the Patriots to grab Tyler Varga, rookie from Yale, when he gets cut by the Colts.

That's a good call. Only thing I would say is that it's a little late for a rookie to come in and learn this offense but I really like that fit.

For a rookie? Way late.

And he would be just getting the playbook and timing down when Develin comes off the IR-DTR......allowing another AFC team to pick him up late in the season with fresh info on our schemes.

Anyway, what would Varga (a UDFA rookie) have over Kettani - - who knows the Pats offense already and is 20 pounds bigger?

Hell, Brandon Bolden is the exact same size and weight as Varga. Bolden is also a devastating hitter. Plug him in at FB.

Varga would be a third nipple/Bequette on this team.

A shin pad would probably save his season if the fracture was caused by a shin to shin contact. I just saw one replay of the play, I thought hes ankle popped when he planted in the field and the Carolina player gave him a wrestling takedown to the other side against his foot.

I think RBs, FBs and returners could make use of shin pads, it doesn't hurt their abilities to maneuver and make cuts and it's not a heavy item.

They make several types of soccer shinpads that are carbon fiber ... one specifically designed for a top professional who had a broken leg. My kid a soccer keeper wears these $150 which is pennies for a pro.

I suspect that we'll search the waiver wire. There will be lot out there in the next 3 weeks.

We really don't "need" a fullback. We could carry a 4th TE now, and/or a 5th RB.
