Too annoying; didn't read (including between the lines, which is where I get most of this from):
  • The NFL is getting the message that it needs to settle.
  • Its current negotiating position is a suspension of 2 games.
  • In verbiage, it will accept anything that can be spun to say Brady did something wrong, no matter how un-specific.
  • It wants the NFLPA to agree that Article 46 says Goodell is god.
That's all according to one anonymous source, who may be somewhat out ahead of his masters. But I take it as a plausible-enough assessment of the NFL's stance, where by "plausible-enough" I mean it's so far away from anything Brady would ever agree to that the fine details of any offer in that range don't matter anyway.

This isnt about Brady vs Goddell anymore, its the NFL vs the NFLPA, and its complete bull sh!t Brady is stuck in the middle of this.

If the NFL wants to make an example, why don't they make an example out of the 49ers. They had Ray Mcdonald who dealing with his thousands of domestic abuse accusations, and now Ahmad Brooks is being accused of rape. Go after those chumps.

Agree, highly with bold part-the leak is all for show.

The nfl is really really good at using the press to leak opinions/lies disguised to appear as facts. But these dolts just either don't get that while that works on joe public, it doesn't do much for a judge.

Unless they really don't care at all about the final result, as long as they can have a public reputation they can point to of: ' we tried to settle-we were fair to a cheater- but he was obstinate and got off on a technicality'. Then it alleviates the pressure of owners saying 'what kind of incompetent shop are you running-some heads must roll.' (If the public actually maintains a belief/perception that either the pats OR Brady were cheating.)

I don't see how they can agree to a settlement without one side backing down completely.

The NFL want Brady to admit guilt. Brady continues to state his complete innocence. Something has to give there if there is to be a settlement. That is the crux - the suspension isn't really the issue in many ways.

The NFL will just be completely embarrassed if they settle on these terms. They will be admitting the premise of the Wells report - that Brady coordinated a deflation scheme - was false.

If they admit that, then what else are they also tacitly admitting? That the whole report was a farce? That we should have our 1st round pick back? The NFL are in a bind and they know it. No backing down from here. Brady will be on the field opening night one way or another.

In a way this is good news because the offer is still too ridiculous to even consider. I hope that the NFL maintains a hardline so that Berman will be forced to judge.

Waiting for Judges to "Judge" is a crapshoot, for both sides.. settlement is preferred for most litigants, however do not see Brady backing down unless it is a small fine and some sort of admission that he should have been more aware than he was of these equipment issues.

Monday might prove interesting..

Kessler wisely stated their concession for settlement weeks ago and got nothing from the NFL. Brady testified under oath he didn't do anything, Kessler conceded they could have been more cooperative regarding phones and that's it.

If Goodell wants to settle now he would have to accept the concession Kessler put forth since Brady would be asked to perjure himself otherwise.

That organization has major problems. It's almost like they scout for players with a history of violence. Sheesh.

I'm not sure any of us should answer on behalf of Tom Brady when it comes to a settlement. He is enough of a man to make his own decisions and I think he has earned that right.

Totally unreasonable.

See y'all Monday.

I have been saying that for a while. Brady destroying the phone and not saying anything about that until the big meeting and then implying he always does than when he doesn't gave them enough to change the subject.

This is a big weekend in the NFL's preseason. All this weekend fans will be paying close attention to their teams and league news, so be prepared for an onslaught of articles like this which will spew speculation as fact as the League propaganda unit makes a last ditch effort to turn the inevitable tide.

Some day, and I think the day is coming soon, when an ESPN mouthpiece utters the words "...according to a league source at the NFL....," , viewers will laugh out loud.

Yep. Hopefully the judge vacates in such a way that there is no new arbitration. The NFL has deliberately dragged this out as far as they could and should not be allowed to address with Brady any longer. If he finds on lack of notice then the decision is overturned and the only recourse the league will have is the federal appeals court.

If I were Brady the most I would accept would be :

2 game fine (not suspension)
No defamation suit against ESPN or NFL - or employees thereof
Agreement to respond "no comment" forever, no sit down interview denying all charges, etc.

That's the most I'd offer.

Why would he admit to a $1 million dollar fine, the most in history?

Because in the twisted world of Goodell, Vincent, Kensil and Pash, abusing women matters less than failing to deflate a few footballs.

Brady should never forfeit the right to defend himself.
