Mike Reiss:

Bill Belichick complimentary of Bradley Fletcher, who started at RCB: "Looks like he showed up on a few plays; certainly did last week.”

Bill Belichick also noting that Bradley Fletcher, at 6-0, 205, is a longer corner than others on roster. Plays primarily outside. #Patriots

I thought Brown played really well in the slot last night and I could easily see Fletcher getting the CB2 spot with Brown being the slot CB3

Has he ever played fullback?

I'm pretty sure he has, but it might only have been on rare occasions, and I have no recollection of details.

Googling on his name plus fullback turns up little, so I imagine it was rare indeed.

At the very least it's just SLOPPY and just another reason not to watch that cruddy network. ESPN is going the way of MTV.

It's preseason for everybody.

I say again: It's preseason for everybody. :D

I nominate Mason. I think he's going to be really good long term, but I don't think he's quite ready to start yet. I'd love to see him running at the Colts' LBs with a big running start, though.

That's pretty darn creative. I agree, he's light footed enough to get decent momentum in the run game as a blocker out of the backfield.

Sure it's been covered earlier but, color me intrigued with the possibilities of our front seven. Easley and sheard especially really stood out to me. Both looking explosive and making nightmares for that offensive line. Also glad to see mayo moving well. It's going to be interesting to see how they split up the reps. Don't want to get ahead of myself with sheard but I think he may take more of ninks snaps then we first thought. And I really don't see nink will be getting a lot of linebacker work like he started tonight with Hightower looking to be ready full tilt week 1. Going to be really fun to see how this shakes out.

Not only do I want to keep Harper, but I think he should be the starting PR. Don't need to keep risking Edelman out there unless it's close late in the game and they need a big play on ST.
As much as I love to see Minitron in the open field, I hate having him return punts. If Harper or anyone else can step up on PR (and KR for that matter), that would be awesome!

What's the chances Rufus Johnson makes the team?

I, too, am a bit more excited about the front seven now. They have the ability to disguise a lot more with the additions.

I am excited about Sheard based on what I have seen in these games; however, I do not think it will be Ninko's snaps that he takes. They'll find ways to move him around and do some things, but Ninko just does not come off the field. If there's one thing I've noticed about BB is he will keep going to the well if the player is young enough and/or still capable. Ninko has shown no signs of slowing down. His intelligence is also a reason why Bill always wants him on the field.

Easley is looking like player we all were expecting based on what the film showed. He is showing explosiveness, but as someone else mentioned earlier in this thread, he is showing that he can win with more than that uncanny explosion and acceleration. If he can stay healthy, and that's a big IF with those bad knees, then we have a player that is going to be disruptive in the middle of the line on both passing and running plays. He seems to have a high motor and his stamina seems good enough.

Not to say that Malcolm Brown has not made more plays, but only one has stood out to me so far and it occurred in the game against the Saints. He chased down the running back about 10 yards downfield on a screen and made the tackle. Collins looked to slightly pull up on the play and Brown came flying in to make the tackle. That shows good pursuit and desire.

Siliga continues to be extremely steady. He shows up on quite a few plays, though never flashy. He's kind of like a safety in the sense that a good one is hardly noticed. That's not an attribute normally applied to D-Linemen, I know, but he just quietly does a really good job. Yeah, I have seen him get bulldozed a few times and he's not the greatest on passing downs, but we don't necessarily need for him to be all-world. He just does his job, like Develin.:(

Jones is in a contract year. He better show up more consistently. He has looked explosive off the edge and has set the edge a bit better in the preseason than I've seen from him. He has not been terrible at it in his career so far, but he continues to get better at it as he gains more strength. He has worn down at the end of games presumably because he has lacked some size for the position, but maybe this changes. There have been threads about the possibility of letting him walk in favor of finding enough to keep Collins and Hightower, but I hope the kid balls out this year and we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Ninko is Ninko . . . GREAT, imho. Done.

The LB's are the LB's. I don't really think I need to say more. If all three stay healthy, the BEST group (and STILL SO YOUNG) in the NFL.

In the few plays I noticed. Alan Branch was in the middle of things.

Tough choices to make over the next couple of days...

By far my favorite play from last night is the Brady to Chandler for that TD, and not because it was a TD pass, but that such a big man could run a fade, beat a linebacker and haul in a backshoulder lob is just downright illegal.

The only other player I am aware of that can do that is Gronk, and to have both of them on the same team is going to make DC's across the league reach for a bottle of Tums, and make Goodell shart in anger.

I wonder if this portends a return to the 2 TE attack offense that we implemented in '11.

As much as I love to see Minitron in the open field, I hate having him return punts. If Harper or anyone else can step up on PR (and KR for that matter), that would be awesome!

While I agree about worrying about Edleman's health, he statistically is one of the best punt returners of all time. But I would like to see Dion Lewis returning punts next week to increase his value because it looks like White and him are going to make the roster.

Agreed. I think he holds the record for AVG per return or something like that. Still, I'd rather see someone like Lewis or Harper back there. They were also trying out Cadet on KR/PR before he went down temporarily. Someone else must emerge. I think Edelman can get even better as a WR, and I would like to see him dedicate all of his time there, while still returning punts in critical games/moments when you need his reliability and versatility.

Why wouldn't it? Sorry, bit of a smart-ass way of saying that it would appear pretty obvious that this would be more prominent in 2015.:p

On a serious note, it's going to be very interesting to see how they use Chandler. Do they (Gronk) line up on the same side? Do they both split wide in the base offense (or even shotgun)? How do teams defend that?

For me, what made the play was that pass. That was a thing of absolute beauty and only a few QB's playing the game can make it. Watching Brady is something special.

Well atleast through the first three preseason games, clarity has been brought to the CB position:

CB1/LCB: Butler (Been awesome besides one brainfart vs. Carolina)
CB2/RCB: Brown (Came in late and won the #2 job with ease, looks good)
CB3: Fletcher (Has looked the least worst out of the rest during the three games, made some plays, and has height on his side)
----------------------------------------------

Ryan will be the CB4. Whatever.

The CB5 spot will come down to the final preseason game. I'd personally rather Swanson over a 5'9 CB who can't really cover. He made the PS last year as the 7th CB behind the loaded 6 on the roster so BB must see something.
----------------------------------------------

As long as Fletcher is covering the third WR outside during 3 WR sets he looks like he could be ok.

Bobs Discount Furniture Studios....

Wood paneling and couches that last 4 months.
anyone want to volunteer to trash that place, so that it can never be used again, what a useless annoying part to every patriots preseason game.

I think this is it.

Damn shame about Roberts. Hope the wrist is not a season ender.

For the preseason

77.5% (62 of 80) (86.1% when not targeting Boyce)
554 Yards
2 TD
2 INT
93.4 QB Rating

In all fairness, he could've had two more targeting other people last night.

As much as I love to see Minitron in the open field, I hate having him return punts.

Why? Edelman is a historically great PR and, while he's had his share of injuries, I don't recall a single one happening on a punt return. Those duties aren't nearly as risky as fans make them out to be.

If he can stay healthy, and that's a big IF with those bad knees

FWIW, surgically repaired knees are only marginally more likely to go than any other. You might as well add that disclaimer to every DL, considering how frequently they have people diving into their legs.

Yeah, I jumped off my couch as was going nuts after that catch. Every time a replay came on, I'd show my son, "See! Look how long his arms and upper body are! Look how instead of catching it over his shoulder he sticks his butt out and can keep the defender 5 yards away from the play!" Incredible. You'd need Manute Bol to stop that throw.

Re: last night's game. I didn't like the announcers much to negative especially towards Brady. The refs will not be giving the Pats any breaks this season. Considering the offense was playing without many starters I thought Brady and JG did well. I was especially pleased with the D that played last night I feel good about our defense especially the CBs. No more injuries please. They should rest the starters in the fourth pre season game to prevent any more injuries. Now we need a victory on September 4th.
