The D&C Show: Mortensen is lying about the Krafts apologizing

God Bless ya, Rob, but if you're at the point where you're praising Scum like Feltcher for the skill with which he dresses up his hateful ********, it might be time to think about listening to something else.

Before Felger took his act overboard, his contrarian character was a perfect balance of getting people riled up and being entertaining. He is currently falling into the same trap that killed Ordway in that he is over relying on what got him to #1 and taking it too far, but when he first started at 98.5 he was a great villain for sports radio. Tanguay is just an unlikable douche.

I'd like to see him elaborate on just how the patriots "mishandled" this in the first 24-48 hours.

He can't. He just wants to assign some blame to the Patriots. It's like the "Brady should just come clean" argument. Why do that if you're innocent?

What is the proper response when you're blindsided with a ludicrous accusation? You've just won the conference championship game, you're headed to the Super Bowl and you get accused of something that not only did you not do, but it sounds so bizarre that you can't imagine anyone doing it. Somehow, the Patriots were supposed to have the perfect response to this kind of thing at the ready.

If the Patriots used the Ideal Gas Law right away to explain it, it wouldn't help because the league was going to leak out false PSI numbers that science couldn't explain. I don't know if it would make it worse (just because the situation and media reaction was ridiculously bad), but it would get spun as "Isn't it suspicious that the Patriots had this scientific explanation ready so quickly? Based on the PSI numbers in the Mort Report, science doesn't account for this. They're guilty and trying to cover it up."

In 20-20 retrospect, no press conference for BB, TB. There was no winning in that ambush.

Jon Kraft says he's let the reporters know they don't blame them for the misinformation, but didn't apologize to Mort

Here's what I don't get about Mortensen and King and why it isn't a bigger deal:

People feed misinformation to the sports media all the time. I'm sure players and coaches have not been totally honest with Mortensen and King when they talk about what they think of other players and coaches. GMs will put out misinformation to try and keep other teams from drafting a player they are targeting. Agents aren't going to reveal their true intentions about where their client would like to sign and for how much. It's almost not accurate to call these "lies" when the situation unfolds and we learn what was really going on. Coach X may not have got along with Linebacker Y, but told the media there were no problems between them because the team was better with the player on the field. GM Z may have wanted to draft a receiver, but talked up a defensive tackle to a reporter because he was hoping the receiver would fall to his team, and so on.

The NFL provided false information to King and Mortensen. What was the endgame? It wasn't for a player to get a better contract or a coach to maintain team unity or team to draft the player they wanted. That false PSI information did one thing: Made the Patriots look guilty.

This wasn't a disgruntled ex-coach or former employee looking for some sort of revenge. This was the league office intentionally putting false information in the media to frame a team. That should be what the media should be looking into. Heck, King and Mortensen should be leading that charge. They were the ones who got used and have to take the criticism for it. If the sports media won't do it, then an actual journalist should see this as a chance to not only expose the corruption in the NFL offices, but also show how the sports media is reluctant to cover the story because of their financial relationship with the league.

I'm not sure the initial report of "11 of 12" was deliberate disinformation, but the decision not to correct it was. Be it NFL's hubris, tactical decision, both, or something else altogether. So I can kinda see Mort's reluctance to accept blame, he's in a hard place. Bite the hand that feeds him, be honest yet make just 1/32nd of the NFL fanbase happy and become the talking-head's version of a lame duck. Or not.Roll with the status quo, keep your salary and prestige, but you can't book any future vacations in New England.... Integrity vs. No vacations in New England... Integrity vs. No vacations in New England... Hmmm, I never like Cape Cod that much anyway....

No, the Patriots will not.
It is abundantly clear that Bob's latest "speech" was simply to quell fan distaste of his surrender to the 31 before he got booed at summer camp.
Some of us said fine with the words, but where's the action? Not looking for him to tilt at windmills by suing the league but a concerted PUBLIC aggressive stance vs the broadcasters and the Morts of the world would be appropriate.

<crickets>
Good call lol

Given that Mort claims to have gotten the answer from multiple sources, it was either a deliberate lie by Mort or a deliberate lie by those in the NFL offices.

People though Joker was cray-cray but the fact is that the league front office has acted with concerted, deliberate intent to damage the Pats franchise. That is undeniable. I agree with the explanation that many are ex-Jets with a grudge because BB resigned & went on to win SBs. The oh so stylish affliction we see everywhere, wealth envy of Pats excellence winning with BB.

What I cannot understand is Kraft's acquiescence.

So Callahan put out a sensationalist tweet last night for everyone to tune in at 6am this morning and there is nothing but an argument with MCI #2??????

Why does anyone give WEEI (Boston's home of ESPN) any credit or respect at all????

They just baited and switched..

It's sad how far down the toilet that sports talk radio has sunk around here. I used to really enjoy hearing some of their discussions as I was driving, and I still go to the archives of both stations once in a while. It just isn't any good any more, and most times that I turn them on to check on what's going on, I turn them right off and put on the jukebox or WERS for some music.

It's a far cry from Eddie Andelman and The Sports Huddle, that's for sure. Goodnight Pumpsie Green wherever you are.

Or both.

.....and Paul from South Boston with his poems!

That got you a WINNER from me.

Sunday nights 7-11 growing up with the transistor radio up to my ear..........

Btw - Pumpsie Green is alive and well!

After baseball[edit]
After retiring from playing baseball, Green worked at Berkeley High School in Berkeley, California for over 20 years, coaching baseball and teaching math in summer school.[2] Green has lived in El Cerrito, California since 7 years after his retirement from baseball. He has been married to his wife, Marie, for over 50 years.[6]

On April 17, 2009, Green was honored by the Red Sox in a first-pitch ceremony, in recognition of 50 years since his breaking of the Red Sox color barrier.[7] In February 2012, Green was honored by the city of El Cerrito, and presented with a proclamation honoring his "distinguished stature in baseball history."[6] In April 2012, he threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Jackie Robinson day at Fenway Park, and also attended Fenway's 100th anniversary celebrations later that month.[8][9]

The Fabulous Sports Babe will always be in my heart

Eddie Andelperson, Guy Manilla, and the "brilliant young General Manager" Upton Bell. Glory days of fan focused sports radio. I have abandoned the current product for several years but am still tortured with post after post by the obsessed quoting the anti-franchise radio host Mo Rons here. :)

Mort's credibility is shot after this

Every time he posts a message on twitter he's bombarded by replies calling him a liar and an idiot

Kensil used him as a pawn in his vendetta against the Pats/Belichick and didn't care that he was trashing a man's career.

I'm sure that Mort hates Kensil for this but there's nothing he can do about it.

Don't forget Ken Beatrice and Steve Fredericks..

God, this is now depressing me..........

I don't think Mort blames his butt buddy Kensil, et. al. He blames those nasty, obsessed Pats fans. I am not joking.

Yeah, he does seem to harbor some disdain for Patriots fans.

Classic case of blaming the victim

Please don't say anything bad about infallible Bob, or you will be accuse of hijacking the thread by the Kraft Imperial Guard. I believe Jonathan but who knows about Bob.
