c'mon ...let's stop with the kiddie stuff

So you thought about raping a six year old because of what I said, and you think that's a rational thing to do?

I paused to try to figure out what you meant, thereby having my attention drawn to the combination of "six year old" and "rape", something you insist on continuing to do.

I'm sorry I couldn't predict that you would have irrational thoughts. Unless you think your thoughts are rational, I don't know. I'm just not great at predicting that people will take words and twist them into something I didn't say then blame me for making them have bad thoughts. It's hard for me to understand because I am able to control my thoughts like an adult.

Your earlier post was fine. The dislike used against it was stupid. Let's move on.

He's been competent (not outstanding) in a variety of RB capacities, so I wouldn't rule it out.

However, if Bolden was used in a Patrick Pass capacity, I'd expect some guy from another position to get a few reps as the true jumbo FB. We've had an ILB (Seau), an OG (Connolly), TEs (I forget which) and DL (Seymour, Klecko, perhaps more). Almost anybody big enough is a possibility.

Has he ever played fullback?

Report that Develin had an air cast on his leg after the game

I still feel like I haven't really seen our starting offense. No Edelman or Gronk, that's like a steak dinner without the steak or potatoes.

Globe just reported that Develin broke his leg per a Patriots source.

Depending on the break, they might carry him on the roster rather than putting him on IR (although it's a tough time of the year to tie up a roster spot). I'm no doctor, on TV or otherwise, but it seems like bone breaks are more recoverable than soft tissue injuries - assuming that if they do stabilize with plates and screws, the injury doesn't get infected. If Develin is smart, he'll ask Gronk who his surgeon was, and then hobble quickly the other way.

A broken bone? I dunno man. Sounds like a season-ending injury to me.

Lots to like about that game tonight:

The Good

  • Jamie Collins and Dominique Easley combining on A gap blitzes. Dial plenty of these up please Matt Patricia.
  • Jimmy Garoppolo looked terrific aside from that very suspect first drive
  • Whilst the run offence looked poor, I thought the OL did pretty well on pass blocking.
  • Gronk/Chandler will be beastly.
  • Dion 'Barry Sanders' Lewis. I suspect James White is a lock because he was so little used today but I really want to see both on the roster somehow. Lewis looked really good for the second week running.
  • The front four in particular but the starting front 7 together looked dominant at times.Flowers, Grissom and Rufus Johnson also look like promising backups and Xsavier ****son had a nice pass rush. Jabaal Sheard has been the star of pre-season so far.
  • Jordan Richards looked impressive in run support. Bradley Fletcher's physicality was impressive.
The Indifferent/Unsure

  • The Secondary did pretty well and I liked the Butler-Fletcher-Brown combo but this was a bad receiving corps we played so I don't want to get too excited. The way Butler was burned on that end zone drop was concerning. Hopefully it's just a one-off.
  • I thought Nate Solder got beat at least twice. a lot of the pressure Brady was under seemed to come from the edge rather than inside.
the Bad

  • The run blocking is terrible right now. Hopefully the return of Stork will fix a lot (I do think Andrews is the big weakness), otherwise Brady will be throwing 50-60 times a game.
  • Linebackers don't look good in coverage. They're beasts inside the box though so I can live with the compromise.
  • I'm not too worried about the receivers because we still have Gronk, Edelman, Lafell and Wayne to come along but the depth isn't terrific. I'm not as down on Dobson as others were in the game thread, he made two good plays and offers something no other receiver on the roster does. And that was a catch, not an interception.
Aside from the run game which is pretty disastrous right now, I came away impressed today. My only other slight concern is how the secondary will fare against good receivers rather than
Corey Brown.

I was just watching sportscenter and they showed the highlight of tom throwing the td to chandler and they had the audio from the radio call and instead of tom throwing it to chandler the pbp called it as tom throwing a td to kenbrell tompkins. WTF???

A fracture doesn't need to wait one month for surgery, put the cast tomorrow, take it off after one month, have to wait another few weeks to start working out, we have an early bye that helps, they are gonna do all the math, depending on the break he can play the second half of the season. There is hope.

Not that I think Develin will be much missed, but he seems to be such a nice guy, to see BB going to check a player on the field says a lot.

Thoughts on Dobson

Some good and some bad but overall glad to see what i saw. Yes he got his hat handed to him on one play but the defender gets paid and it was just a really good defensive play and would likely not happen again that way if you throw the same ball 50 times with the same coverage. That Int aside he was over thrown or under thrown sometimes. He has some rust but has shown more then enough to make want to keep him around one more year and I think he clearly out played Wayne/Harper tonight overall for the 4th spot.

He really is pretty damn close to being a good outside WR and with a few very minor clean ups he could have 100 yards and 2 TDs tonight with a few better thrown balls and better plays by him.

I nominate Mason. I think he's going to be really good long term, but I don't think he's quite ready to start yet. I'd love to see him running at the Colts' LBs with a big running start, though.

Devlin WILL be missed. Over the last few years he's not only been a key element in the run game, he's a better than average receiver, and (IIRC) never been stopped on any 3rd or 4th down runs. To that add the fact he's a versatile ST's player on a number of teams. Right now the Pats do NOT have a replacement who can do all the things he can do. There will have to be a number of people who will have to step up.
