Insects and Bequette Will Survive Nuclear Disaster

Maybe it was a favor back to Tampa knowing they would claim him for all the solids they have done us.

The legend of the immortal Jake Bequette grows! :D

Jake Bequette made a slick catch near the goal line as he continues to make the transition to tight end.

“Good. He’s worked really hard,” Belichick said. “Worked on his blocking, his hands, good athlete, smart kid. Worked hard. Getting better every day.

Has anyone seen him during training camp?

You don't show off your secret weapon, you keep him in reserve and when your
Opponent least expects it you set him loose.

BB was schooled by Chris Matthews in the Super Bowl. I predict Bequette is kept on ice until next February.

I'm convinced that they cut him halfway through his rookie season, but like a horror movie about a haunted doll, he just kept showing back up at practice, even though no one could remember letting him in...

Now they just let him practice whatever position he feels like that day, leave him inactive on gameday, and never EVER speak his name.
Like Kramer just showing up for work at a job he doesn't have in Bizarro Jerry:

Converted TE Jake Bequette has now out-lasted Tim Wright, Fred Davis, Logan Stokes and A.J. Derby for a Patriots roster spot. Amazing.

I read yesterday that Tim Wright may be cut in Tampa Bay, who is having the same degree of difficulty in terms of trying to find a real position for him.

He's not an effective enough blocker to play much TE, and the Bucs are pretty well off in terms of receiving options with Evans, Jackson, and Seferian-Jenkins.

When is 3 receivers enough? The Bucs should employ a position called "pass catcher", instead of WR/TE, Wright was decent he was just beaten by others on our roster.

I'm not taking it as gospel. It was one of those "rundown" columns for the goings on throughout the league.

One thing to keep in mind is that Tampa Bay was reportedly considering to cut him last summer as well, as they shifted back and forth from TE to WR. Perhaps he just isn't a good fit in that specific organization?

Wright just disappoints me.

I felt that he showed a good amount in limited action learning our system. He goes back to his original team and still struggles to show enough? What's wrong with the kid, he seems gifted with physical talent, he LOOKED big enough and fast enough while on the field here to warrant a spot on many NFL rosters, yet TB, an organization annually devoid of talent, is expected to cut him?

I know he's not Hernandez, I know he's not some exceptional talent, but how has this kid now showed enough to be a #2 on the average NFL TE depth chart when most teams don't even have a true #1 TE. The average team probably has their top TE as a 4th or 5th member in terms of passing production.

I'm not upset he's not on our roster, I'm just confused how he hasnt shown enough that he's talked about as a casualty from the Buc's roster. That's bad.

I agree. When we cut him back in June, 10 teams attempted to pick him up via waivers.

He seems like he should be good enough to be one of the top 64 TEs in the league, considering the fact that every single team is at least two deep.

Again, we should take this rumor with a grain of salt, particularly due to the fact that it came from yahoo sports. They are in my opinion, the bottom of the barrel in sports information. Watch him catch 10 TDs this year:cool:

I'd imagine that there are many, many factors that fans are never made aware of when it comes to personnel decisions.

Health issues, mental issues - all we get to see is the physical side of things - the reality of building a roster is so much more complex than this - which is why is always amuses me that people are so quick to criticise things they literally know almost nothing about.

Enjoyed the thread title - they guy won't make it to the 53 i'd be willing to bet. The guys he beat out so far isn't exactly a murderers row (pardon the pun) of TE's.

I had high hopes for Bequette when we drafted him but, much like Boyce, he's never been able to make it onto the field and his time is up. The Pats have kept him around but that's going to come to an end very soon. Time to move on.

If Brady's suspension is upheld I suspect BB will be receiving a visit from Bequette and his ol' trusty hard drive of nudies. BAM! All of a sudden Bequette is a QB?!! This gives Bequette four more weeks to figure out how to stay on the roster.

To Be Continued...

Neither do I. One of Bill's worst off-season moves so far, up there with letting Browner go.

Maybe there's more to this coaching thing than meets the eye. :)

I think people mistake the guy who makes the catch as 'good' rather than the guy in the spot that was the beneficiary of being on the field with great players drawing the defenses attention, and excellent play design.

Yes Wright caught 6 TD passes. No, Wright did nothing special on almost all of them, nothing that any NFL TE could do, if they had Brady, Gronk, Edelman, and the best short yardage play caller in the league.

BB isn't judging Wright by how many times they designed a play to get him wide open, but by the skillset he brings to the team.
