The Fear Of Being Called A "Homer" Drives The Negative Slant Towards The New England Patriots

Russ Goldman

If you follow the coverage of the Patriots, it tends to slant more negative, and I truly believe that it deals with the fear of being called a “homer”.

Good read. Where's the Wifork part of the article?

I think it's hilarious when the pessimists call themselves realists or claim to be objective.

I'm not buying into the premise.

I'm sure there's a comfortable place between being a homer and a blind-hater which is what we seem to have in abundance. If these guys are afraid of being called a homer, then they should try to be more measured and balanced in their articles or not afraid of a word.

Reiss would be a homer in their terms, but he is capable of criticizing the team and when he does, he states his reasons. I would say he's the type of reporter a regional area should have. The Borges, Tomases, ... have set the bar exceedingly low that even Florio now seems pro-patriot in comparison.

He didn't put an excerpt in the post and the script wrote an old description into the feed. Just fixed it :)

Very nice. How long has it taken ESPN to correct the PSI story?

What most fuggn idiots don't understand is that home town fans and writers are SUPPOSED to be homers.

The word "Fan" stands for "Fanatic"....wake up!'

We are not supposed to be fuggn "fans of the game" or some BS like that. Show me someone that says "Hey, I'm a fan of the game and not a homer" and I'll show you someone whose hometown team sucks.

So yes, we want our reporters to support our team first and wait for FULL EVIDENCE before they jump on some bandwagon.

Maybe some Boston sports writers aspire to work for the NFL Network or ESPN....but as fans, we don't give a rat's ass what your aspirations are. You stand with your team as you would an old friend. If it's PROVEN they screwed up, then ok, have at it.

You hear me douchebags....Felger, Mazz, Volin, and Borges....you ugly fugg !!

Thank you everyone for reading my article. It has been awhile since I have written one but this subject matter has been on my mind for a long time.

Thanks for your reading and your comments.

Tanguay teasing his next D&C show: "Ben Volin, OUTSTANDING journalist!!"

How are they letting those frauds have airtime? Wish I had a direct line to WEEI.

There is a difference between being afraid of being labeled a homer and being a complete shameless idiot.

These type guys just feel that contrarian views or provocative hot takes lead to ratings. It has nothing to do with being labeled a homer. It may be entertaining when they are discussing a game or a player's performance but it's shameless when they apply the same contrarian scheme to peoples legacies or to real world issues without an ounce of responsibility to any possible negative impact they may have on that person(s).

I listened to the D&C show this morning because McCann was co hosting. Unfortunately Tanguay was also on and it was just unbearable. Not only is he Scientifically illiterate but he is also historically ignorant. Either he is that numb or he has no shame playing the village idiot. Either way it's just not enjoyable to listen to that type of radio when they are dealing with real issues.

Thanks for taking the hit for the team. Might be worthwhile to see if McCann enjoyed or haated the experience.

Perhaps they are just air surrounded by sphincter muscles.

He got a little heated at Tanguay a few times. It was nice to hear.
