I dunna know. Sounds like his teammates didn't exactly stand on the stump for him.

Who knows what the deal is with this guy.

Two things: 1. He is a lineman. Linemen are always an odd bunch. 2. His agent is Drew Rosenhaus. (Although he states Drew had nothing to do with his release which I believe).

He has a sense of humor seems easy going and has expressed that money isn't everything. So that sounds like SB contending type team. Seattle would be a good choice as well as Patriots but wouldn't it be cool to say later on in life you were an OL guy for Tom Brady? That has to be a plus.

Think he's very different from those examples. Moss was a planet player who wanted to win at the right time. Ocho Cinco was a lovable dope and BB gambled wrongly that he could learn the system. Both of them, despite their opposite outcomes, were serious about training and getting work. Meanwhile, Evan Mathis wastes time talking to fans on reddit about his contract numbers and pulling pranks on media members to "make a point". It just wouldn't surprise me if BB has deemed him a turd.

On the surface, Mathis doesn't strike me as the type who would make a good fit in Foxborough. But then again, people said the same about Moss when he first came.

If Mathis is coachable, and can focus on "doing his job": then Belichick might just put up with some of his antics, and allow him some individuality. And he doesn't strike me as a the type to poison a locker room.

Keep in mind also, many players have had issues with Chip Kelly. Mathis is hardly the first to talk badly about Chip.

No offense, but Bill runs a much tighter ship than Pete Carroll. Pete Carroll is the most popular coach in the NFL, and he is well-liked by his players. Not to mention, the Seahawks are run like a college football team. Some would find that kinda appealing

NoneTaken. But I said the Seahawks would be a possible choice if winning is his objective but being on Ton Brady's OL has to have some pull. "I played with TB" must be something unique, right?

You'd be surprised how few people care about that. Playing with Brady is a once-and-a-lifetime experience, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to make Stevie Johnson, Reggie Bush, or Percy Harvin wanna sign with us.

With Wendell back, and assuming that Stork and Cannon's injuries are not serious, I think that the Mathis-as-a-Patriot dream is getting less and less likely. Until Dikembe says otherwise.

Broncos just got Mathis, according to Schefter. ****, I was all ready to enjoy them having a terrible line.

Great. Now he'll be a crack-back block specialist in DEN

@RapSheet: Evan Mathis’ deal is worth $4mil with incentives. He turned a $5.5mil deal down from another team because he wanted to play for a contender

Bill elects for Wendell-Jackson

While I never really saw him coming here as much of a reality due to the financial aspects, it absolutely SUCKS to see him go to Denver and play for a competitor.

I think way too many people are giving up on DEN and Manning around here. I still believe that they are our main competitor for the AFC.

Really? What about Baltimore I feel they give us more fits (postseason) then a soft led Denver team.

Ya heard he didn't look too good against Houston. Think I read he had a 3.5 AVG per attempt.

When did Evan Mathis turn into John Hannah? Did I miss something?

He's a nice player, but he's not even Brian Waters, let alone Hannah. There's a reason Philadelphia cut him. This reminds me of everyone being all up-in-arms over washed-up Logan Mankins.

They have a good reason to. Guy looked shot at the end of the year and it wasn't because of some injury. Can't even feel his fingertips.

He couldn't feel his fingertips in 2013, and that didn't stop him from throwing for 55 TDs and 5500 yards.

His issue last year all went directly back to his torn quad, or whatever it was. If he's healthy, there's no reason to think he won't be the QB that he was for the first half of 2014.

The real issue is whether or not he can stay healthy. Which is all based on whether that injury was bad luck or if it was caused by his post-surgery throwing mechanics. If it was the former, then there's at least a reasonable chance that he'll rebound this year. If it's the latter, then he's an injury waiting to happen, he probably won't make it through the season, and the Broncos are probably screwed.

They cut him because he was demanding a raise, not because of his ability. He's really, really good. The interesting thing about him is that it took him a long time to establish his foothold in the league. He's always been a freak athlete--truly a freak, even by NFL standards--but his play hasn't always reflected that.

I could see some teams maybe thinking that in their system he would be more like the player he was with the Dolphins, and less like the player he was in Philadelphia. Part of the reason why I thought he was a good fit here was because the Pats ask their linemen to get out and block in space a lot on screens and stuff, which would've showcased his athleticism.

Unfortunately, I think he's a great fit for the Broncos, too. For all the things he sucks at, Kubiak is an OL expert, and he's always valued athletic guards, even if they were undersized. Mathis is pretty much the perfect interior lineman for him, I think he'll do great there. Bummer.
