Actually, when they find they can drink beer while watching this version of football (you cannot at soccer matches in the UK - not in the sight of the field at least, for the obvious reasons you allude to) I think they will like it just fine.

Are they actually going to allow that? I guess since no one will be emotionally tied to either team it might be ok.

Still, it kindof strikes me as the equivilent of handing liquor and car keys to a 16 year old to have 60k Brits drinking together in a stadium.

It's allowed at rugby matches, with never a hint of any trouble. It's only soccer they have the restrictions for. I'll be pretty surprised if it's not allowed at this game.

I hate to shatter everyone's perceptions of the English culture, but I've been following soccer 10 times as long as I've been following football. I've gone to a lot of games fairly drunk and the closest bit of violence I've seen was a few lads shouting at each other from one stand to another. A couple of lads tried to run across the pitch (field to you lot ;)) and were promptly tackled by a MASSIVE security guard who appeared out of nowhere. It was the most entertaining thing I've seen in a fair few years though.

Oh, and a streaker, in the snow, at 10 PM, in December.

Green Street is just a movie. ;)

I'll put money on there being very little trouble at the game, beer or not. There might be the odd drunken idiot, but that isn't different from US Football games. As English Patriot said, the vast majority of soccer games pass without trouble, so the stereotype isn't as accurate as it once was. It isn't like the 70s and 80s.
Where there is trouble, it is orchestrated and occurs away from the grounds, which are heavily policed. It's not perfect (teams like Cardiff still have a hooligan problem) but it is better than most people think.

I Agree with gomezcat on this, i been to a good few games in England & the Amount of Police (Especially the Ones on Horseback) around the Stadium is Excellent. They have a lot of stewards inside the Stadium aswell.

I was at a game once when the home team lost & an away supporter who was in with all the Home supporters stood up & started to chant & cheer on his team (The Dope), Some of the fans didn't like this & started shouting at him & within 10 seconds there was 5-6 stewards there to take the guy out of the Stadium

HI Pat,

NO idea what's going on with this. I got an e-mail confirming that I ahd registered but not one with the all important "password" allowing you to buy tickets. They were supposed to go on sale this morning at 10am but seem to have been delayed.

Will update later when I hear anything

Miami is going to be a part of history when they are the first team to win a game (that counts) on foregin soil. :D

Didn't the 49ers play a game in Mexico?

I could've sworn that was preseason but I think it was the regular season. Yeah, it was a regular season game, I do remember that actully. I meant to say Miami will be the first to win outside of North America. ;)

There are already dozens of tickets appearing on the UK eBay site.

If they can't spell it, they shouldn't be allowed to win it!!!

Arse. It looks as if it is going to be next to impossible to get hold of these tickets. :(

If it came down to spelling, no American team would ever be allowed to win anything. :D

Didn't even get a letter, so I won't be going :(

SF and AZ played a couple years ago on foreign soil in a game that counted. It took the place of an AZ home game.

I will probably have availability to get some of these tickets... I didn't think much of it but now it looks like it is going to be a really big deal.... maybe I should sell 'em on eBay :D

You would make a decent profit on them; I think you would be surprised how popular Football is getting here.

Re: game in London

I didn't get the letter/email either, so I guess I'll have to take my chances when the second batch comes out. Fingers crossed eh!
