I completely agree.
He & the rest of the OL looked terrible last night.
Hurry the feck up Bill and sign Mathis, an honest-to-goodness professional LG.
I love his potential but hes a bit too inconsistent for me to want up front protecting TB.

Evan Mathis was on Reddit yesterday. Saw this highlighted on twitter:

In other words, he's saying that $3.5m per year is a realistic number for him. He's surprisingly talkative about this stuff.

Yeah, if the numbers are going to be in the range that we'd assumed at 3.5m to 4.5m, then it's hard not to want a longer look.

My concern is that it's still too rich for Belichick's blood, but it would be great to give these younger, developing OL players another year to learn.

I'd be offering around 3m, and I'd pull out all the stops--not limited to the obvious = dinner @ The Ground Round. Get on it, Bill.

Do. It. Right. Now.

4 years and 18 mill is still to much. A contract like that usually calls for 1/4 to 1/3rd as a SB. say 4 mil as a SB. 1st year 2.5mill, 2nd year 3.5, 3rd and 4th year 4mill each. 3mill is a lot of dead money if Shaq is ready next year.

2 years 8 mill, 3 mill bonus, first year 1 mill salary is something I would be in favor of.

4/18 is 4.5m per not 3.5m per. Dunno where you got the 18.

If the Pats believe Mason is the guy, but not quite ready, then they should offer Mathis a solid 1 year, rent a player, deal.

@MikeReiss: Reggie Wayne says he had other options. “Oh yeah, there were a lot of serious calls from some good teams. Felt like this was the best place"

@DougKyedNESN: Reggie Wayne on why he signed with Patriots: "I want to win. Point blank."

Now go call Evan, Reggie.

@Miguel How much is left in cap space?

I wonder if he lobbed a call into 'ole VW and asked for his thoughts on the team?

This is great...after Derby and Roberts I was binky-less.

I'm adopting Reggie Wayne as my new TC binky. :p

I don't think there is anyone on this board who doesn't want Mathis for the right price and thinks Mason needs more seasoning.

$3.5m for a G coming off 2X Pro-Bowl seasons seems very reasonable however clearly people are not paying $3.5m for him- yet.

Mathis made a big stink here in Philly on his way out, and he was a messy casualty in Chip Kelly's cultural cleansing. If Chip and BB are close in any way, BB is going to have the impression that Mathis is a bit of a rogue who says outlandish things and talks out of line. Which isn't inaccurate. Really doubt this pans out.

With examples being Moss, Ocho Stinko and a few others, there have been some outspoken players roll though Foxboro over the years with varying levels of success.

It's up to Mathis. He'll get read the Patriots Code of Conduct before signing a contract and he'll need to decide if he can tone down his act, be a team player and work hard or act like hes the only thing that matters.

This place isn't for everyone.

Think he's very different from those examples. Moss was a planet player who wanted to win at the right time. Ocho Cinco was a lovable dope and BB gambled wrongly that he could learn the system. Both of them, despite their opposite outcomes, were serious about training and getting work. Meanwhile, Evan Mathis wastes time talking to fans on reddit about his contract numbers and pulling pranks on media members to "make a point". It just wouldn't surprise me if BB has deemed him a turd.

I have read a few of his comments he's posted on reddit. Pretty funny stuff but nothing I saw as outlandish. He was somewhat outspoken about his feelings towards Chip but again nothing over the top. IMO

Seems like a good character guy.

I dunna know. Sounds like his teammates didn't exactly stand on the stump for him.
