Are there still any moves Belichick can make to strengthen the secondary?

Corner's are too valuable, you can never have enough in this league, I doubt anyone would even consider trading a starting caliber cb this time of year. I understand not resigning Revis because of the money, but I really wish we would have resigned Browner . Our secondary would have looked a whole lot better now with him on one side and Butler on the other and McCourty at safety where he belongs. I guess we are going to have to keep an eye on the waiver wire to see who get's cut.

If Reggie Wayne then why not O.T.I.S. or Ty Law?

Dennard must have really screwed the pooch Bigtime!

Darrell Green? I understand he can still run a 4.3 forty (correction 4.43 forty)

Trade for Jason McCourty and ride their magic twin mind meld to the Super Bowl.

He had his groin operated on today, and I think we all know how painful that can be......

He is already listed as "out" for week 1.

I was looking if any Ayers type guys ( going into their FA years) I didn't see anything worth going after.

McCourtey at CB will be a nightmare, I hope BB can find something.

Folks are looking for vets as backups. Belichick has signed Fletcher, McClain and Cox. Yeah, it sucks that our 7th round draft choice is injured, and will lose key developmental time. We also have last year's PS players Swanson and Green.

Belichick, being Belichick, will look at the waiver wires over the next 2-3 weeks (and always). After all, over 1000 players will be hitting the wires in the next two weeks.

That being said, I don't expect us to be signing a corner who would get very many reps.

I don't think Roberts was going to play a significant role in the secondary this year anyways. He was just a developing depth/ST's player. That doesn't mean BB won't add another CB if Roberts; injury is as bad as reported, but what's out there isn't likely to be anyone that will significantly improve the physical talent on the team by much.

BTW- I don't get all the dark feelings I'm getting about the state of the secondary after just 2 pre-season games. This secondary as it stands right now is WORLD's better than the one we went to the superbowl with in 2011. Besides I don't think the secondary is doing nearly as badly as its being portrayed. Besides think about this. So far this preseason the Pats have faced Rodgers and Brees without game planing or much blitzing.

I am not sure how I could accurately judge the secondary if they are sitting Butler after a couple of series.

Is it possible to sign every good QB in the AFC? Then the secondary won't matter.

Also, I hear if we inflate the ball to 13.5 psi the ball becomes like a shot put, nearly impossible to throw a spiral and players fumble the ball roughly every two times they touch it.

Maybe Ike Taylor or Carlos Rogers as they might be the best FAs out there but IDK.

Rodgers might be able to handle 4th or 5th CB. Work him out...what is the worse that can happen.

"Carlos Rogers is a 34-year-old coming off a knee injury. His days are numbered, but he can still be a solid third corner for a season or two".

I thought fletcher looked pretty good. Butler, Brown and Fletcher is not a bad CB rotation if McClain can hold down the slot.

I think we're overstating how many good cornerbacks most teams have. Admittedly, I'm surprised at how bad Ryan has looked, but, we're talking about a fifth cornerback issue and Roberts is a good looking 7th round pick, not an all pro starter, like people are talking him up.

If we find a 4th corner to beat out Ryan, that's fine, but it's a fourth corner. I feel all right going to battle with Butler, Brown and Fletcher.

I think upgrading the 4th corner in the rotation might be something worth considering for Bill, alongside adding another receiver

I'm ok with that as well.....but...

- I don't see Fletcher having a lot of versatility and I think nickel back is not his strength. I think He plays CB#2. I think he is an above average CB#2.
- Brown has more versatility then Fletcher...he can play CB#3 very well. I believe Brown would be a top 5 NFL CB#3. I think the secondary is stronger with Fletcher at CB#2 and Brown at CB#3. It is similar to McCourty at FS...the secondary is stronger with him at FS and not CB...IMO
- Depth at CB#4 and 5 may not be good.

I'd like to see Dax Swanson get some snaps instead of Ryan. Before there was the Butler phenomena, Swanson was the hot UDFA. Ryan needs to earn a job, he's gotten worse.

Agreed.

If we can agree on McClain at the nickel, Ryan is our #5 corner back. His role of CB/STer is the traditional role of the 5th CB.

If they were gonna end up sticking to the same defense they played last year and are trusting Butler to basically become Revis Lite, I really don't get why they let Browner go.

Supposedly Browner was asked to take a pay cut. He said no.

I was thinking Rogers too. If he's healthy at this point, wouldn't hurt to kick the tires.
