I think they will be fine. Upgrading the front 7 upgrades the secondary. And as mentioned they are in better shape than in 2011

They suck. This may be the worst group BB has ever put on the field. We basically need to hope that Brown steps up and teams never go more than 2 wide against this defense.

First Dobson and now Roberts. I just want to see these promising Marshall players show Doc Holliday can get you ready for the NFL. Roberts might need another offseason to bulk up anyway.

So who might be available as a potential cut or as a trade. I'm thinking about guys who are potentially expendable.
I can't imagine anyone who will end up being better than those currently on the roster.

BB picked Brown, Fletcher and McClain for a reason. I say, let's give them more than half of camp to figure out how to play in this system.

I think the jury is out on that.
Its certainly a debatable point. Look, I am not thrilled here but with cutdowns coming there are going to be bodies out there, and who knows what surprise CBs will get cut.

I will agree its the biggest concern on the team by far.

Seriously lets see has to be a cellar dwelling franchise.
Maybe with hard financial decisions coming up, who fits that mold.

Or who is absolutely stacked at defensive back and willing to trade a hardened vet.
Or who is coming off a injury no one is talking about right now.
So you have Gilbert from Cleveland?
A change of scenery maybe is in order I'm sure Sheard could tell us about the kid.
Or Cincy is stacked at D back what would it take to get Leon Hall?
Or do we just see who Seattle cuts?
How about the Raider D back with health issues?
I got it Dallas loves to make trades we've traded with them in the past how about Micheal OO for a certain bust cornerback who we could kick the tires on?
Jason Mccourty?
You have to give up Nate Solder and that's just starting negotiations.
What say the board?

I think its better than 2011.
Too early to tell.

2005, 2010, 2011 and pre-Talib 2012 were the worst secondaries in the BB era.

In terms of having proven cover guys in this system, we have no earthly idea what to expect.

Because they have McCourty playing CF they should be better than them.

Butler coming of age. Brown, Fletcher, Ryan and McClain playing like its 2013 are all "hopes".

He'll just get a Wheatley surgery done and he'll be all good........

Well sh!t, there goes his career.

Too early to tell.

Not really. Chung, of all people, was the lynchpin of that secondary and he missed half the year. Now he's a guy most consider to be the 3rd best DB, at best. Barring a complete flameout on Butler's part, there isn't a single secondary position that isn't improved over 2011.

Part of me thinks its not significant but enough to stash him on ir while keeping vets who have more experience and are better starting prospects.

Maybe. I hope you are right.

If any one of these guys gives the team the 7 INTs Arrington had in 2011 I'll be tickled to death.

I'm one of those who believe that talent upgrades do not necessarily translate into better play.

Noooooooooooooooooo, not Roberts.

Yep. I highly doubt the team wants to risk losing him by hoping he clears waivers then IR him.

Is having him make the 45 then IR-ing him as the exemption dumb?

Not sure of all the permutations for roster hording?

Seems like there is no urgency to make a move until Sept 1st.

Arrington was quietly terrible in 2011, much worse than McCourty from October on.

I hear you, but when all four positions are upgraded, the LBs are better, no seismic scheme change is happening and you get a full offseason, there is no reason to think this group will approach 2011. It would take both McCourty and Butler going down for that to happen.... and that might not be enough.
