Rookie CB Darryl Roberts has significant injury, and may be out for the season

No. 2011's secondary was in shambles. At least this one has a very good Safety, a promising CB that looks the part and a couple of veteran CB (Brown & Fletcher) that should be able to do an adequate job.

I feel you are constantly reminding people this. It was bad in 2011. Do people who post here follow the team?

We've still got roster cuts downs to come and a bunch of draft picks (inc. compensatory ones). I still could see BB make a move.

It'll be in shambles when Marquice Cole or Edelman have to play CB.

Let's put our GM hats on what defensive back out there could we add to the roster who nobody is thinking of right now?

Anyone think BB would trade Nink or Jones for a starting caliber defensive back?
What d back is flashing in who's camp who is playing on a stacked team?
I want to start exploring the idea.

No because probably would have meant no Revis.
I'd agree and he wouldnt have been healthy or at least tried to tough it out though an injury.

I think they will be fine. Upgrading the front 7 upgrades the secondary. And as mentioned they are in better shape than in 2011

What about dangling Nate Solder out there?
Contract year hard agent to deal with its at least worth discussing.

I'm good with Butler-Brown on the outside with Fletcher backing them up. I'm a little concerned with McClain and Ryan as depth behind them.

We have a 3rd pick and a 3rd compensatory pick almost certainly. We should be able to get someone quite good for a 3rd.

I would be confident with that. I think Harmon has improved and they are trying to keep him on the field.

However that position is one injury away from trouble. Lots of players will be avail in a week too.

Fans will be pleasantly surprised once they see Brown out there. He is good.

McClain is functional. I think he sticks.

Fletcher has not shown much.

Ryan has been ghastly.

IMO if BB comes to the conclusion that he needs to give Ryan and Fletcher their walking papers or by mid-season they are getting lit up he just might make a move for a cover guy.

Ditto. Fletcher has looked less crappy than I've expected of him so far, though granted it's a small sample against a mix of starters/backups/scrubs.

First Derby, and now Roberts SMH.

You all will be glad to know I'm out of binkies this year so your guy is safe.
They were mine too...

I think there is going to be a LOT of big nickle this year

So who might be available as a potential cut or as a trade. I'm thinking about guys who are potentially expendable.

The reality of football is that many roster battles end up being won by whoever stays healthy. If in fact only 5 of the 6 CBs were going to make the roster, then the Pats are replacing a late round rookie, albeit a promising one, with a veteran who started games last season. There are a lot worse things that could happen.

I still think there's some potential for a Butler/Roberts starting duo down the line, which would save a ton of cap space relative to what a typical team has invested in starting corners.

I feel the same way. That top 3 should be acceptable, but I'm not super comfortable with 4 and 5. Not sure how to improve at those spots at this time, though.
