Lewis v White

Has Cadet been at training camp at all? I'm tempted to say we cut him

As Parcells used to say, "Can't make the club from the tub." I think Cadet goes to PUP, and if no other RB else goes down with an injury by week 6, he immediately starts suffering from a mysterious ailment and goes to IR.

I anticipate 5 RBs and 1 FB, same as last season.

Blount/Gray
Bolden/White/Lewis

Hey, that would awesome if we could keep them all!

I think we need a FB / Develin. IMO we don't keep 6. That is why I think it's either White or Lewis.

I have to wonder if the Pats using two passing backs on the field at the same time frequently signals they might want to keep more backs than usual.

Cadet can't go on PUP since he has practiced

I think Lewis overall is the more complete player but White is better in the open field as a pass catching back. That is the single most important job and i think White is the better option cause he does that better. I think White also has more upside so if it is this close you just keep White and hope he can live up to that upside and clearly be better than Lewis.

I am on the Lewis train big time, but I think if it comes down to him or white, Lewis gets cut. White just seems like the more solid, dependable back.

Lewis looks like he plays soooo similarly to Woodhead - he'll shake anyone one on one, but also isn't afraid of contact. He would make the shotgun draw a weapon for this offense again, which in turn keeps the opposing DEs honest and makes Brady's shotgun play action much more effective. I don't think Vereen did a great job at that, and I don't see that from white either. Lewis also seems to have an edge at KR. I just worry what would happen if D linemen square him up too many times.

Cadet will be cut... even if he were on the field. Thought so when we signed him. I just haven't seen a single impressive clip of him.

He has too much value to be put on the practice squad, dontyathink?
If you are asking me if I think he would make it to the PS ... my answer is yes.

If you are asking me if I think he is too valuable to cut ... my answer is no.

We cannot keep everybody...if we get better play from our #3 WR and our #2 TE me or you could play Scat Back. I think the position if our #3 WR and #2 TE step up will be a luxury.

The Faulk comparison is a good one in size and skill set. Lewis did a good job with pass blocking, running and catching.

Lewis looked more powerful than Faulk and makes me think of a stronger Danny Woodhead. If he performs like that for the rest of camp, no way is he getting cut.

I personally think Lewis showed more last night.

No question. White can break an ankle with a jump cut, but he is useless if that option isn't there. When it comes to dancing, the kid makes Maroney look like Walter Payton.

Oddly enough, the most surefire lock, Blount, worried me the most last night. He looked SLOW. He showed his old self once or twice, but he looked VERY slow, the other backs all looked better in their time.

Blount always looks slow behind the line of scrimage, which the OL did a good job of containing him to. :)

There's no way Lewis gets cut... After what we saw on Saturday, we'd be crazy to let him go to another team

If people like Lewis that much its a easy decision cut White we should get him back via the PS he has not done jack $h!t yet in this league to hold a active roster spot.

I see Lewis as I do most bottom end roster players on this team ... replaceable. I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over seeing him get cut.

Keep in mind that, come days end on Sept 5th, more than 700 players will become immediate free agents. This is at a time when teams have already picked their top 53 guys. While the possibility exists that one of the Pats final cuts gets claimed, chances are a whole lot better they don't. And, honesty, if they do, there are oodles of other bottom end roster players out there to replace them with.

Some casual observations about the RBs. I thought Blount looked slow. It looks like he is still working to get into game shape after recovering from his earlier injury. Gray looks to be the best power back at this point in time. Lewis looked like the fastest RB. I like Whites open field running. My impression is Lewis is the better runner but White is the best pass catcher option although Lewis looks good catching the ball too. I didn't pay much attention to pass blocking but I think I've heard that Lewis was better then White at pass blocking. Bolden it seems is been given the veteran status and hasn't seen preseason work.

So where does that leave Cadet?

I have to think it leaves him on the outside looking in. Others have been taking advantages of their chances - and Cadet hasn't yet. We are lucky that it seems the 3rd down RB situation is looking this promising. I would have liked to see Vereen return (not at that price though) but the $ is better used elsewhere since White/Lewis seem up to the task.
