Our First String Offense AND Our First String Defense Looked Awful

Vollmer played during the 1st 3 series.. Fleming was lining up at a TE..
The Offensive line players are returning from dings. That is a good sign, but the interior line is still rookies in action.

Yup it's bad but it's preseason. We still are lacking some healthy bodies on offense, especially our WR corps. I feel most important offensively is for the OL to gel. At least Garoppolo looked good against the Saints if a worst case scenario happens. I'm gonna call him Garp from here on out because spelling his name is pretty hard.

I hope the Mccourty experiment at CB is now officially at an end. I see Butler as our #1 CB and Tarrell Brown as the #2 CB, with McCourty our #1 safety.

If only there was a time before the season started for teams to improve their play and try new things in meaningless games. We could call it the before-season

Branch is first string? What have I missed?

Ninkovich, Brown, Siliga or Easley, Jones

This brings an interesting point. Easley seems to actually be playing more DE than DT, or am I mistaken? I feel as if he played DE more as a rookie as well.

Speaking of DT, has anyone noticed Zach Moore yet or do we believe he's likely out?

Haven't you been reading this thread. It doesn't matter how anyone looked.

Brady and the offense always start off slow. They are the least of our worries. The Defense front 7 will have growing pains, but as the season goes they will get better.

The Secondary is another story. Weve gone through the Butler/Wheatley years and watched good QBs score at will. Things got better with Talib and finally fixed with Revis. Im 100% on board with BB not paying Revis Brady money, but I hope BB has a CB or two up his sleeve for Bradys sake.

How about less "some of are fine with the Pats D" and more "some of us know Belichick will make the necessary changes because he's earned our trust"

I hope BB does.

Claiming MCourty is elite is like Rex Ryan boasting Sanchez is special.

Preseason panic thread lol. Sounds about right. Some people on this board are so brain dead I will tell ya!

What, got no response for my post so you changed the subject to the defense?

So you think BB and MP were scheming the defense for this game? Butler and Brown at CB with McCourty and Harmon at Safety and most of those big plays don't happen.

McCourty wanted no part of playing CB last night.

Last time BB and MP schemed against Brees

17 of 36 (47.2%)
236 yards
2 TD
1 INT

Basic pass coverage on a post route.

CB vs a WR. There is no mystery or scheming. Either you can cover the WR vs one of the top QBs in the NFL or you cant.

I do notice Mcourty bellyaching about playing CB. That's a first. Troy Brown never complained.

This just in…Generalissimo Logan Ryan still sucks (pre-season or not).

Do we really need to go though this again?

NO

The proof is on the field. Without Talib or Revis DMC has been a main player in some of the worst NE pass defenses in BBs tenure as NEP HC. Brady is elite. Gronk is elite. Revis is elite.

Dominance on the playing field talks and BS walks.

I'd just like to point out that teams don't 'game plan' against their opponent like they do in regular season games. The object here isn't to win or lose, it's to test out your players and the team in general.

So the whole 'who cares its just 'preseason' argument is valid because BB and the coaches did not develop a game plan to win, it's all about testing your players out and identifying who's staying, who's leaving, and where the problems are before regular season starts. It's also a chance for players to prove their skills, get taped on some game footage so if they don't make this team other teams might see them and be interested.

No your wrong because the defense is awful. Mccourty sucks, that's the position he's going to play all year. Brady sucks too because that's the exact offense he's going to play with all year

you did fine, and we did fine also. Its a preseason game for evaluation, you never play to win or be perfect unless your a bad coach.

Keep in mind that are defense was only rushing 4 and not blitzing the LBs. the offense was without Gronk, Edelman and LaFell, the main targets of the offense. Here is my review of the game https://patriotsall22review.wordpress.com/2015/08/24/patriots-saints-film-review/

Very nice breakdown - I urge people to go give it a read. Some thoughts:

1. Jabaal Shread - Is that a deliberate misspelling? Because I like it if it is. But of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vibe.

2. You're absolutely right about Jimmy G. Just read that he went 20/20 on passes under 10,yards and had a quicker release last night (2.04) seconds than Brady did last season (2.39)

3. Nice to see your write up on the OL - not as concerning as it seemed last night. I disagree a little, they didn't look good against the Saints' firsts but I think David Andrews was at fault for quite a bit of that and he's not going to sniff starting in the regular season next year so I'm not unduly worried.

4. I really can't choose between Dion Lewis and James White so I'm up in the air on both. Very happy with them so far, both look really good in space. On White's long catch and run, he had some outstanding blocking downfield from Shaq and Kline.

5. Thanks for the clip of the Dion Lewis TD. James White was lined up at WR I noticed.

Again, nice write up. I presume you plan to do it throughout the season.
