You said the Patriots could have kept Revis. I agree they could have but I also asked you who you were prepared to lose for that to happen. It's elementary stuff Deus.

For the record, Chandler Jones is the only guy I would have been prepared to lose to extend Revis.

I totally agree. I'm sure paying Revis would have allowed them to sign Sheard, Chandler, et al. Or sign McCourty. Revis is slowing down. I was not impressed with Revis last year. He had flashes, but seeing S Smith burning him in the divisional game was sad.

They need to sign Hightower and possibly Solder. The upocoming years will not be kind to Revis. If Smith could do that with jump ball Joe, what's Edelman or Lafell or Gronk etc do to him? Yeah, not worth 20+million. Not even close.

Lot of IF's here but:

If:

  • We re-sign Solder, Chandler Jones, Hightower and Collins
  • Easley and Malcom Brown live up to their pre-draft billing
  • Butler becomes, at worst, a serviceable #1 CB
  • Jackson & Mason are the long-term answers at OG
  • Flowers, Grissom, Richards and Darryl Roberts all become valuable backups at worst
Then I'm bullish about the future even without a #1 pick this year. It will become easier to forget about Revis if all this happens.

I would have loved to have kept Revis and I'm sure he would have been even better this season than last for the Patriots (if only for greater knowledge and coaching). Mind you, you simply don't pay Revis what the Jets offered him and blow up your roster to do so.

I'm seeing Mathis being linked to the Chiefs:

#Chiefs "definitely in play" for Evan Mathis. Offer qppears to be multi-year deal, bulk guaranteed (ballpark of $20 mil).

To clarify, the guarantees are reportedly in ballpark of $20 mil, not contract.

KC not only team in on Mathis (obviously) but making a concerted push.

All these are from Benjamin Albright. For perspective, Albright was the first to suggest Foles would be traded from the Eagles to the Rams and the guy who suggested the Peyton Manning to Houston trade (obviously never happened but I think it's clear that the Broncos were open to trading Manning this spring).

What do you guys think about $20m guaranteed? That seems pretty stiff to me. Not sure BB would be in at that level if true.

I thought he was going to have a hard time to get a 10 million dollar contract, the market didnt seem to manifest interest in him for months, I bet everybody is looking for a bargain.

I think BB might have an offer for him in the 10 Mi figure for 3 years, with incentives to 12/13. That seems reasonable for me, Mathis might think is lowball but I dont think he will get much better out there.

Ha, really.

Mathis is looking at a 2-3 year deal in a BEST case scenario for him. How in the world could he manage to pull down 20m dollars in guaranteed money? He won't get anywhere close to 20m dollars, period. As a matter of fact, he probably won't get anywhere more than 10m dollars on the entire contract.

I can't believe that guy would really tweet that kind of information.

I was thinking along similar lines, although I doubt he'll be able to bring in 12-13m dollars. He's either 34, or he'll be 34 very soon. Anything more than a couple of years is pretty risky, although year three would basically be a dummy year.

So is he just going to not play if he doesn't get what hes looking for?

Soooo we calling this guy ASAP or what?

Tom Curran points out the fact that BB was extremely relaxed after the game, having what seemed to be a very upbeat, yet lengthy discussion with Mason, Andrews, and Jackson. Curran and Girardi claim that he talked to the 3 for about ten minutes.

I still think we're sticking with what we have. That would mean that one of Wendell or Kline (or possibly even both) will be playing the majority of the IOL position. Just my opinion.

I wonder if there's any possibility of grabbing one more roster casualty in the next couple of weeks when cuts are made?

Maybe we'll hear something about his visit with SEA in the next day or two? Perhaps they are in negotiations?

I think no matter what, he isn't going to get what he's looking for, considering the fact that he was pissed about "only" making 5.5m dollars for 2015 in PHI before he was released.

Yeah, I was sort-of joking, I think you're probably right. Just wishful thinking that they would add him. I'm really anxious to see Wendell in the LG position, I think he was a perfectly serviceable RG last year and am eager to see him on the other side. I'm unsure about Jackson. He's more "pro-ready" than Mason, but he hasn't really looked like a Day 1 starter yet. That could change, but if it doesn't, it could be true that Wendell and Kline are starting Day 1 at RG & LG. Which, IMO, wouldn't be the worst line ever (certainly better than last year's opening line)...
