John Mara has gone on record that he wants Deflategate to end even if the NFL loses. That is as close as you are ever going to get a public statement about an owner being upset with Goodell as you are going to get from an owner not named Bob Kraft. Clearly the longer this goes, the worse it is for Goodell.

And he was the most vocal owner supporting Goodell in all of this. Losing Mara's support has got to be troubling for Goodell. It was Kraft and Mara who got him the job in the first place.

I will NOT click on it, but the CHB has a story that has the tag line "whatever the outcome of Deflategate, Goodell will survive". That gives me hope that he won't.

One down, only 12 more owners of teams on the Pats 2015 schedule need to capitulate. This looks like it could be gravy!
Shhhhhhhhhh.....Kessler hunting his foe

You rich ass.hole...you should've said this 7 months ago!
Classic case of whether the glass is half empty or half full. Sure, it would have been better a long time ago, but even Kraft had bailed on his own team in May. So, in that case the glass is "half empty."

But the fact that one of the most influential Owners in the League has now effectively told Goodell that he wants him to get this over with makes me want to think the glass is "half full." Mara knows the only way this can be "over with" is for Goodell to accede to Brady's demands.

These clowns have the numbers of every owner and Rog on their phone. Any public statement that he wants to resolve the issue in any way sounds like he and the rest of his cohorts are just trying to be reasonable and put it to bed. To me that sounds like trying to play both sides - don't be reasonable in practice but claim you are being reasonable to the world. When a power broker wants the problem settled, he gathers the principals and gets it settled quietly. Anything other than that is lip service, and less than credible lip service at that.

Of course I anticipated this kind of reaction from some in the league once the case headed in a direction that reflected poorly upon the NFL. When the Pats and Brady were under fire, deflate gate was all well and good. Now it has changed to "we're sick and tired of it".

I'm sick and tired of it too but the difference is that I've felt that way for many many months. Some of these owners have felt that way for a couple of weeks.

Too bad *******. You and your buddies were happy to see the Patriots dragged through the mud during the off-season. Now your precious regular season is approaching and you want it to disappear. Sucks for you but it's not happening that way. The integrity of your league will be dragged through the courts for all to see whether you want it gone or not.

Hope he says this after Judge Berman's ruling. When the NFL goes to appeal, a lot of owners need to come out by name and say they don't want the NFL to appeal. The Owners who want to keep it going need to be put in the spotlight and the only way that happens is if Owners come out on the opposite side and let people know where they stand.

Sure, you wanted to milk it when it was lookin good for NFL* and dominating headlines in off season. NOW, since tables have turned and lookin not so good it's time for football and you had enough. Some owners did smarten up, its not so lopsided now against Brady.

Have Giants gotten favorable treatment from the NJFL front office too? I can't recall them doing anything.

So, you're coming down on the "half empty" side. :) Not an unreasonable position given all that has transpired, but I guess we'll know one way or the other in short order. There's either stuff going on behind the scenes or this is "less than credible lip service" and the Appeals will be dragging on into 2016.

Have no patience for this BS. Either it's the greatest crisis in the history of humankind and MUST be snuffed out (like we were lead to believe in the winter) or it is in fact not at all important (as we know it isn't due to the league never ever caring about this before).

Mara can go to hell.

I guess when you begin with the proposition that there have been 2 public owners meetings since this mess began, and the process really has not been surprising in any way, it is difficult to fathom how the state of this case should be a surprise to any of the billion dollar babies or their mouthpiece now.

In terms of settling this, there really are not that many possibilities to ponder (yes/no to lifting the suspension and a vote). In terms of NFL embarrassment, this case became really stupid about 7 months ago and has stayed at that level. Much of the stupidity we are explicitly getting through court documents was implicit in every step of the NFL process.

I will hold with my nefarious owner theory of using this case as a mechanism to judicially modify the CBA to their advantage, shut down the NFLPA in future cases, level the playing field by smiting the Pats, and prove to fans everywhere that nobody, not even the mighty Pats, are above scrutiny. The court case is just a means to these ends. After Spygate and Bountygate, the media interest should have been a given and anticipated. In short, the really rich guys suck because one need not be reasonable when exceedingly wealthy.

I gave your comment a "Like," because I like the underlying sentiments in your post but don't think it will necessarily play out that way. It will play out that way if Goodell doesn't give in and settle, I agree there.

However, with Judge Berman's help, Brady has called the League's bluff. Everything is out there for everybody to see. Brady had already testified under oath that he didn't do anything, so he can't go back.

The only way this can be "over with" is if Goodell caves on the Wells report as being bogus, exonerates Brady (as Judge Berman did for all intents and purposes in the courtroom last week) and agrees to a fine for "non co-operation." If a critical mass of important owners are pushing him in that direction, then that is what will happen.

If not, this ain't gonna be over for a long, long time and it will be very embarrassing for the League.
