Florio: Some owners want DeflateGate to end, others want to push for a win over the NFLPA

Gee, Mara wasn't tired of hearing about it when Goodell & company were smearing the Patriots with false accusations and their rigged "investigation." Now that the NFL is getting bad press, he suddenly feels this topic should go away.

Really shocking isn't it? What a ****ing toolbag.

just give brady a fine and move on.

I'd be okay with that. IF BRADY HAD ACTUALLY DONE SOMETHING WRONG!

a fine is an admission of being guilty of something, so nope.

Kinda funny how apparently none of them care about "doing the right thing" or "finding the actual truth in the matter". They either want it over to prevent overshadowing football, or they want it to keep going to expand their power over the union.

Pure business interest either way, with no regard for truth, justice, integrity, etc. We've all known that from the start, but it's still kinda funny to see it laid out so starkly.

If they want to fine him for not turning over his phone, that wouldn't really bother me. They fined Favre for the same thing. So be it, let the NFLPA take it up in the next CBA negotiation if that's a hill they're willing to die on. It's wrong and stupid for the NFL to assert its authority to demand personal cell phones (all while not turning in their own when they're under investigation), but this is the same league that issues fines for wearing socks of the wrong length. Fines mean nothing to me, and if someone wants to take that as an admission of guilt then they're stupid beyond redemption and would've found something to latch on to regardless.

Just posted this in another thread but it's relevant here too. Is it just me or does the second tweet seem to be Mara distancing himself (and the other owners) from Goodell? Looks like he is hanging Roger out to dry (not that I have anything against that).

John Mara said it's not accurate that owners have put pressure on Roger Goodell to "hold the fort" on the Brady suspension (@WFAN660).
I didn't quite read it that way. I think that's the public line owners have to toe, because acknowledging that they're pressuring Goodell could open up its own can of worms re: his bias as an arbitrator. There's a reason why Irsay and Biscotti refuted SalPal's report about that as quickly as they did.

Mara was out front 3 weeks ago in full support of the Commissioner to the media.

Sure, but saying that you support him and "pressuring Goodell to hold the fort" are two very different things. It's pretty much a given that he would deny doing the latter.

I thought you were going in a different direction with this:
Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

The owners are dreaming. There are still the suits I expect from Jastremski and McNally against the Patriots and the NFL filed in a Massachusetts court. Their names have been dragged through the mud and they have suffered loss.

Sort of contradicts Florio's suggestion that the Maras, Rooneys et al. are leading the effort to have the NFL beat the NFLPA at all costs.

One of them's lying.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm going to say it's not Florio.

Also, by "go away" I think he means "Stop having the media criticize the league about this, but keep the Patriots' and Brady's reputations permanently smirched."

I 95% agree. I don't think this is just accurate vagueness or a reporting error; I think Florio got his facts right.

The 5% is that Mara could have changed his mind, and if he did, we don't know exactly when he did.
