Viacom and swirling down the drain and not even Bob Kraft can stop the bleeding ... Redstone is croaking and Viacom will be bought out for pennies on the dollar thanks to Netflix and YouTube and others. Will be very interesting going forward to see how much the internet can earn the NFL vs regular cable type TV.

Viacom should have bought Netflix when they had the chance.

Yeah, and Ken Olsen should have bought Microsoft or Apple.
That too but Viacom had a distribution deal with Netflix which it let expire. Rumor is a buy offer was on the table but wasn't rich enough for Netflix to accept.

"Not even Bob Kraft...."? Maybe I don't hold Kraft to the same high regard you do. Until he ACTUALLY does something, I am done hoping that he will use his connections and power to fix this hole fiasco.
After his brand obsession and feeble voice during Spygate, feeding the Goodell monster over the past decade, the quick transition to young girlfriend(s) after the death of his "beloved sweetheart," and most of all...a complete miscalculation of the pulse of his "partners" and commissioner, when he decided to lay down and accept the loss of draft picks...I think he is just a really good salesman who had us all eating out of his hand.
I don'

If I were Belichick (a guy who is obsessed with perfection and spends god knows how much time and effort to accumulate draft picks, scout players, etc) I would have had a closed-door profanity-laden monologue with Mr. Kraft. It would end in the words of John Patrick Mason, "...personally, I think you're a f'ing idiot."

Worked for, knew and admired Ken as a person but those companies would have died in childbirth subsumed by DEC.

You forgot the sneakers.

I agree. I worked several years at DEC. Ken once said, "There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home". Look where we are now and where DEC ended up...

"My sources tell me Robert Kraft only joined the Viacom board to get a better advertising rate to sell macaroni and cheese to teens on MTV, but with MTV's ratings declining so much he no longer needs it." - Ben Volin
Good one. You had me ready to go with a big "Huh?" reply...until I saw the last two words. Well played!

It's simply because he's an old geezer and needs his energy for his companion. He needs to relinquish the team to his son Jonathan and limit his role to obsequious glad hander, his best talent.
You'd think there comes a point, when you're some 40 years older than your "girlfriend," that incompatibility sets in. But then, what would I know?

Nothing booze and a purple pill can't fix.

The incompatibility will set in only if the money runs out. However if I was Jonathan, I would try to make sure that if he gets a new step mom, he doesn't lose the team.

I digress, but when working at DEC in DECSYSTEM 10 engineering in the 70s, I was taking B school courses at night. Did a project requiring surveying so-called experts in the field about something. I chose microprocessors, they were just going from 4 bits to 8 at the time. I could not get management to participate as they thought the premise that you could ever build "real" computers out of micros was ridiculous. I knew then that sadly, DEC was doomed, hubris & lack of imagination.
