Globe Troll gets quote from unnamed owner that there is more evidence of cheating not released

That's a remarkably stupid passage.

It's wholly illogical for the NFL to both:
  • Punish Brady with appallingly little evidence to prove wrongdoing.
  • Hold back evidence of wrongdoing.
There's no way Volin should have repeated the claim without in some way addressing its great illogic.

Don't know if this has been addressed and don't have time to read the whole thread, but...in addition to what you say above, IF they had something truly damning, why wouldn't they just show it to Kraft, BB, Brady and say, "Guys, just shut up and take it and we'll let it all flow under the bridge"?

Brady wouldn't be stupid enough to fight in Federal Court if there was truly damning stuff laying around out there.

Makes ZERO logical sense, as does Brady having McNally go into a bathroom and pop a pin into 12 balls with no gauge and no pump.

To quote Whitney Houston, " I Wanna see the receipts"

Volin wins the Tomase Award for journalistic integrity. It comes with a one way ticket to Boca Raton Florida for his assignment with the Palm Beach Post covering FAU football.
What did the people at FAU do to p*ss you off so badly?? Why inflict him on them??

More likely than not, if any evidence exists it falls into the same category as the "we were ignorant that the ideal gas law was an explanation for what we observed" kind of evidence.

The NFL receives complaints about teams cheating all the time. The Colts e-mail to the NFL about the Patriot's ball boys letting out air in the footballs is just one example of the types of complaints the NFL regularly get. Other types of complaints of cheating include such things as clocks not working right, Coach to QB communications not working, etc. At one time or another the Patriots have been accused of about most everything.

I presume that the owner is probably one of many that have sent in complaints about the Patriots. He probably thinks that his complaint is legitimate and the NFL is just waiting to gather more information before they reveal it.

I would have phrased it, "It is well known around Boston that Ben routinely frequents fields and parks..."

Ever better might have been, "it is well known throughout the country..." and then added some Jerry Sandusky non sequitur at the end.

The original quote is more pea-brained than I care to imagine.

"See I told you that Wells had more on the Patriots and they just held it back. Ben Volin confirmed it."

"You're right, Mike. You're so right."
Felger:You're an ugly SOB and your mom is a whore.
Mazz:You're absolutely right Mike.

He's basically just referring to the suspicion generated from the Colts ball boy's comment that it was well known that the patriots deflate the balls and Volin then tried to use that to generate more buzz. Volin is on record as saying that he prefers covering this issue more than covering football. He'll do anything he can do get his name out there.

People need to just ignore Volin completely and stopping reading his stuff and stop tweeting him.

I don't know about that. It's kind of fun now to read his stuff and make fun of how bad a reporter he really is. It certainly amuses me how good you all are at trashing him :D

You can't cure stupid. He is being fed bullsh*t because people know he's a tool that can be used over and over again. He isn't smart enough to figure it out and he believes he is 'in the know' and 'connected' because they are whispering this crap to him. The Globe hire people like this because they will work cheap and are disposable since his absence (if he had to be fired) wouldn't create so much as a ripple in their readership, such as it is. It's the Globe version of Tomase. Journalistic Integrity is the ultimate oxymoron.

I disagree a little. In the modern economy, good journalists are also cheap. He's just an unsuccessful hire.

The more I think about this the more stupid it is.

The league and the NFLPA are adversaries. Maybe not on a like, cats and dogs level, but certainly on a Union vs. Employer level.

The league would not willingly withhold evidence that would weaken their estimation in the eyes of members of the NFLPA. They would not come after Brady calling him not only a cheater but a conspirator who offered gifts with substantial monetary value to entice underlings to break the rules and then say 'oh but we better hold back on other stuff'.

Because you have plenty of players saying that the league was too harsh. The league has a CBA thing coming up in what, a few years? The last thing they want to do is give NFLPA members more ammunition to fight for more league concessions in the next agreement. They simply would throw everything they had at Brady.

Not to mention that the owner's comments don't even necessarily convey what Volin hopes they'd convey. The owner could just simply be an idiot. Shocker.

Oh, you mean Irsay.

The NFL is losing this one, so after a federal judge questions the whole thing, an unnamed owner says there was more evidence of cheating. yeah ok.

I'm really hoping at this point that Brady launches a defamation suit. There are lots of reasons not to -- it will be highly unpleasant for all concerned (privacy invasion via discovery and leaks, further defamation via leaks, etc.), expensive and distracting. It would be the opposite of his instinct to try to end the problem and be freed to return to focusing on football.

I'm still hoping he does it.

Unnamed sources close to Ben Voilin tell me he has sex with sheep.

My statement has a better chance of being true than the league holding back a smoking gun.
Naaaaaaaaaaaahhh they were goats. Bad source
