The Defense Looked Really Good

Surprised only one mention of Sheard. Pats front 7 was consistently getting pressure. GB's OLine got away with tons of holds.

Sad my binky Roberts got hurt. I was so happy when I found out he was starting. They're going to need him to have a good defense this year.
Yea he was looking good too. Hopefully his hand injury is not too serious.

DISCLAIMER: I didn't watch the entire game because of a commitment last night and I don't put a lot of stock in preseason games to judge the regular season.

I did like that it looks like they are going to be more aggressive with the pass rush than previous years. If they are, I can't wait until Hightower is ready to play.

I also think Bulter may be as good as advertised. He won't replace Revis, but he may be a solid #1.

I am worried about the #2 CB though. Roberts got burnt too much. Ryan was up and down replacing Butler.
When was Roberts burned? On the Jordy Nelson out? Keep in mind it's a rookie's 1st game on an island vs an All-Pro WR and and ALL-Pro QB.

Now the Ryan play when he didn't jam the WR at the line and let him run by....that was burned.

Maybe burned was strong, but he didn't do well in coverage. Rodgers picked on him a bit. The guy is a low round rookie, he is going to have growing pains.

Butler and Sheard impressed. Flowers sack was great, but then when I focused on him afterwards he seemed gassed.

3 possible outside pass rushers, it's a glut of talent we have.
Jones/Ninko might not have to play 95%+ of defensive snaps (with little to no loss in line effectiveness). that alone is inspiring.

Nelson did nothing to Roberts that he didn't do to Revis.
Just saying no way we cant let this guy go and hope to squeeze him off waivers.
Honestly not impressed with the receivers I saw last night here we go.
I would take two tight ends on the active roster one on at the practice squad and 3 others on speed dial.
Receivers Krause Boyce did not look like NFL receivers.
I will give Boyce more time, the Defensive line pass rush was very impressive I'm trying to see who I would cut. I think my D line cuts would be Vellano Chris Jones Alan Branch.
I hope to see a better game from Morris or he is not making the roster.
Agree with others about the Dolphin Linebacker he was all over the field but typically right behind the play but he lokled like he belonged.
He would of played Quarles a little better but I think more reps will greatly help him out.
Duron Harmon and Tavon Wilson are on the outside of this roster looking in but I think Wilson makes it over Harmon and Ebner.
What are your thoughts?

Gassed as in injured? He left 4 plays after that sack.

He stood out in his opportunities and had consistent disruption in the backfield. One of the highlights of the first quarter was his play on the field.

i'll mention him. Sheard looks like hes going to be off the hook as a pass rusher could see him getting double digit sack numbers. he was good against the run too.
Flowers looked good, he was quick, and strong at the point of attack. Grissom also looked explosive against the pass.
Now, i was watching to see how Easley played, i didn't see the same thing others saw, i didn't see easley breaking through the line or being that disruptive. It was even mentioned during the broadcast by either m chatham or fauria that easley needs to learn to play a little differently to utilize his quickness because hes undersized as an inetrior lineman. Overall the D played very well, and it looks like sheard and flowers are going to be able to really bolster the pass rush.

Physically, Easley doesn't look too big. I think he will be successful when we go nickel. The DT's and DE's take wider splits giving them more room to use their athletic ability. If he can provide a pass-rush in those situations, when the fatties come out. He'll be useful.

Sheard and a healthy Chandler Jones should provide the pass-rush we've been lacking.

To me, Sheard and Butler were the defensive stars.

I liked what I saw of Roberts, Flowers, and Bradley Fletcher.

Logan Ryan should move to safety - if he can do the McCourty dance, he'll get a lot more playing time there.

LB depth is something to watch here...the Pats might have to make a move to get a decent run-stopping fourth (I hear there's this guy named Spikes out there). The Packers' offense was owning the area about 5 yards past the LOS - of course, their tight ends were literally shoving LBs away on their break.

Easley didn't look as explosive off the snap as I expected. I think he'll be fine, but I want him to be more than fine! Malcolm Brown was a solid pick.

I know it's a D thread, but I have to say, Josh Boyce's career might be over. He was one of my binkies, but wow, he was pretty awful last night.

Yea I couldn't believe what i was seeing them get away with a lot of times... there were some really blatant holds that prevented sacks that were not called

So who are you taking out to put in the run stopping LB? Collins? No. Hightower? No. Mayo? No.

Not too concern about that play. At least he didn't let the guy go all the way for a touchdown with less than 40 seconds before the half.

Freeney definatley being overrated. Pash rush looked good on the edge. Interior looked pretty soft. Coverage was overall pretty sold especially considering it was GB.

The defense looked really good against a top offense
LOOKING GOOD: Johnson, Freeney, Butler, Roberts, Fletcher, McClain

1) There was pass pressure. Flowers will be good.
2) The run defense had a few problems. Branch wasn't there. I think Siliga was also out.
3) The LB's were fine. Freeney looked great. Morris, not so much.
4) The DB's were pretty good (except for Ryan). Even McClain, Wilson and Roberts looked OK.

The one thing that stood out was our speed. We looked like a fast/mobile defense. The run defense will be an issue but hopefully the return of Mayo will make a big difference.

The front seven was missing several starter/rotational players, so I, for one, am not overly concerned with this. I will be watching over the next few weeks to see Brown improve on disengaging from blockers. Nice to see Easley with his fabled explosion back, too.

the run defense is always an issue without Mayo. not to mention hightower.
