The defense looked really good against a top offense
LOOKING GOOD: Johnson, Freeney, Butler, Roberts, Fletcher, McClain

1) There was pass pressure. Flowers will be good.
2) The run defense had a few problems. Branch wasn't there. I think Siliga was also out.
3) The LB's were fine. Freeney looked great. Morris, not so much.
4) The DB's were pretty good (except for Ryan). Even McClain, Wilson and Roberts looked OK.

totally agree, I'm just saying my prayers already these guys stay healthy

We also need to remember that this fine performance was made with some of our key defensive players sitting out.

You are the 2nd person telling me Freeney looked good. Maybe I need to rewatch him a bit. Maybe Morris getting abused made him look worse to me then he was.

Yes, I think that Morris had a bad day, but is still roster material, ahead of the others (Fletcher, Watson, Martin, Johnson)

Freeny was up and down, but more up, if that makes any sense...1st prteseason, game tape, let's see what happens next game. I do not want to see Boyce on this team.Good football skills physically...zero heart...hasn't changed since I saw him last season..

So disappointed with Boyce, there's so much potential there.

As I'm wont to do as a draft guy, I had a look at Rufus Johnson's pro day numbers. Nothing particularly special except for the fact that he a ran a 1.62 10 yard split at 6'5", 272lbs. That's right up there with the top pass rushers of the last draft like Beasley, Fowler, Ray and Gregory. Might explain his explosiveness.

he possesses extremely long arms...you're right about his explosiveness...still raw but the talent IS there...against GB's second string anyways. Frustrating night as far as trying to get a read on any player becuuse they were put in all kinds of positions. BB doesn't care about what I, the fan WANTS to see, he runs what HE wants to see what HE wants...you'd think I'd be used to it by now but I'm not..

Patriots preseason game tickets should carry a disclaimer: "This contest is intended solely for team evaluative purposes likely beyond your understanding. Do not expect to be entertained apart from observing the cheerleaders and female patrons in summer garb."

The defense looked really good against a top offense...

Wasn't able to watch, but glad to hear this! Especially coming from a very sober evaluator.

-Pretty impressed by Darryl Roberts as he was in good coverage and competitive when going up against Jordy Nelson. He didn't look out out of place.
-I thought Mcclain also played well and showed his toughness.
-Freeney played well, but I feel like he got picked on in coverage a few times.
-Flashes of Easley's explosiveness?!
-Flowers looked great and had an excellent sack vs. Bakhtiari (Packers starting LT). His sack was reminiscent of Bobby Boucher...

I loved what I saw from he pass rushers and Butler, but I didn't come away with the same impression. McClain looked like he was playing himself off the roster and I didn't see anything special out of the backup LBs. Freeney's name showed up a lot, but it was usually after a good gain on the ground. I also thought Logan Ryan wasn't playing all that bad until he was torched on the first TD.

But I'm amazed after all these years that it looks like some NFL outside pass rushers are going to get cut. What a turn of events almost overnight.

Sad my binky Roberts got hurt. I was so happy when I found out he was starting. They're going to need him to have a good defense this year.

Rufus Johnson should make the roster with that kind of burst and pass rush.
Roberts, Flowers come back please!
Based on one game Geneo Grissom is explosive but can't anchor against the run.
Sheard is a beast.
Alot of pass rushers Easley looks great Malcom Brown all can get upfield to the Quarterback.
I think we would of done much better against the run if Mayo, Hightower were there.
I don't want to release any pass rushers.
Offensive line on the other hand
Devey will not make this team nor should Barker.

Offensive line will be fine with Solder-wendell/mason-stork-jackson-vollmer.

this could be our best defensive front 7 in years. i can see now why the coaching staff decided to part ways with Revis - Butler looks solid and is a much cheaper option.

Did they decide to part way with him, or his price was just too much to handle?

DISCLAIMER: I didn't watch the entire game because of a commitment last night and I don't put a lot of stock in preseason games to judge the regular season.

I did like that it looks like they are going to be more aggressive with the pass rush than previous years. If they are, I can't wait until Hightower is ready to play.

I also think Bulter may be as good as advertised. He won't replace Revis, but he may be a solid #1.

I am worried about the #2 CB though. Roberts got burnt too much. Ryan was up and down replacing Butler.

Tarrell Brown, which according to camp reports seems like he could be the other starting CB didn't play.
