Inner visions sent through the small brainwaves of Shank schaughnessy the patriot hating rebel and squeaky macaroni

Yes I guess when Papi had that "supplement" snafu, we saw a similar uproar with a USA / Boston media, legal, sports blitz overload 24-7 for 7 months straight. No wait... it was even more so. Funny, don't really remember that. :)

Here is the difference

Actually its all about the W's!

If the Sox had had a similar performance run over these last 15 years as are the Pats, then we might have some debate. Hmmm... That's actually an interesting thought experiment. I wonder who would be #1 in Boston sports, in that alternate universe. It might actually be the Sox since they would have started with the "lead" for lack better term.

But in our world, Pats have overtaken the Sox. Everybody loves a dynasty. Simple as that.

I heard Sean McAdams talk about the apathy towards the Red Sox in this town. He said it is really bad news for the Sox because the fact that the Sox are going to end up last place for the third time in four years is greeted with yawns from the fan base. He said that no one seems to care about the Sox.

This is a baseball guy saying that the Red Sox are becoming irrelevant in the Boston sports scene. That is telling.

The Red Sox are definitely behind the Pats in this town. They may be even behind the Bruins at this point.

The thing is the Sox have avoided the decline in popularity in MLB that other parts of the country had had because generations passed their love of the Sox to their kids. With a growing apathy towards the Sox, that chain will be broken.

You're saying this as if the Sox haven't been winning championships themselves. They've won three World Series in about the same span as the Patriots have won four Super Bowls. The Red Sox also have great attendance even during bad years with some of the highest ticket and food/beverage prices in the league. I'm not sure why people feel the need to compare anything anyway, obviously the NFL is currently the most popular sports league in America.

No, I'm saying if the Sox had been as exceptional every year over the last 15 like the Pats with a something similar to 6 WS showings, 4 championships, winning the division 80% (sounds crazy just writing that in today's MLB competitive context - but you could of said that before NE's run too I guess), along with the Pats, THEN I wonder who would be on top today, since the Sox had more local goodwill to start, but NFL has gained in overall popularity, is all I'm saying is all. Love them both. No complaints either way. But one thing I do know, there would be a helluva lot of bragging in Boston.

That's pretty much how the Giants have been the past five years yet I bet you the 49ers will have everyone's attention on Sundays, Giants game or not.

I'd prefer to watch espn deflategate coverage on an endless loop over anything redsox.

Once i turned 16 I had a hard time figuring out why I was essentially watching men stand on grass for 4 hours when I was 15.

Pedro was must-see-tv for me. I think he spoiled me and it hasn't been the same ever since. Haven't watched with interest in years. Same thing when Bird retired. I've always been a Pat's fan though. Good, bad, doesn't matter. BTW, why wouldn't he Sox still own Boston? They're smack dab in the neighborhood.

baseball is so boring. pretty soon, the games will only be shown on TV land..
feels like the games never ever end.

The Boston Globe?

Isn't that one of those things you turn upside down and shake so the snow falls on the village?

Eric Wilbur with some mild stupidity that the Globe editors gave an even stupider headline:

http://www.boston.com/sports/column...town_where_the_quarter.html?p1=feature_sec_hp

A Patriots preseason game got higher ratings than a Red Sox playoff game a couple years ago. I'm sorry this is not just a Brady town, it's a Brady/Gronk/Edelman/Belichick/Kraft/next man up town.

Wilbur alludes to the gap between the sports' popularity, but this is not a passing fad. The popularity of the game of football and of baseball are going in opposite directions, even in spite of the bumbling fool in charge of the NFL.

Doesn't the owner of the Red Sox own the globe?

Baseball needs serious changes but if they made the necessary changes they'd have to deal with the howling from idiot purists and people who think that Baseball is some sort of parable about the human soul or something equally pretentious.

Baseball would be great if it was 30 games a season. I'm convinced the major reason the NFL is so popular is every single game is super important so there's always this sense of 'MAN we got to win this game' instead of 'Well, hopefully we win 55% of the next 203498720394802398402938402984 games'

The Globe was once the reference for Boston sports news. Now it's a joke. #globeclowncar

women's world cup championship game between u.s vs. japan had much higher rating than the world series.
just sayin'
