Hey guys had a question about traffic from boston to gilette on game days. I'm no longer in the new england area so I fly in from out of town for a game or two each year.

Usually we come in on Saturday and stay in a hotel in Norwood so traffic is never a concern.

This year because of conflicts I'll be landing at Logan at 6 pm. Mom is coming from another city earlier so she'll have the rental car ready and waiting to get me, so I figure by 6:10 I'll be on my way. How bad is traffic going towards Foxboro from Boston on a Thursday? Rush hour will obviously compound things. I'm hoping we can get to the stadium by 8 ...

Any thoughts on if we'll make it? Gotta be there for the Brady introduction (Since he will be playing of course :) )

That's playing it close......on a clear day, the drive is about 20-30 minutes.

Rush hour turns that into 45-60.

Game day....who knows, then you need to find parking and then deal with crunch at the gates.

I'm an early bird type and would not be comfortable with 1:50. If there were no issues then it should work out....

PS. --for openers, if your plane lands at 6:00 - do you really think you will be on your way at 6:10?? That alone makes the entire journey iffy.

It'll b very bad. There's no better way to say it. From Logan u have 2 options; Mass Pike to 128 n Rte 1 or SE Expressway to 128 to Rte1 without any traffic it's about an hour

I didn't c the 6pm landing time. If your mom has checked luggage, 6:10 departure is not realistic.

If you can change to an earlier flight, do it. N0t to be a doomsayer but you'll never make it in time for kickoff if your flight lands at 6. There's regular rush hour to deal with on top of game traffic on top of (always) late-arriving crush at the stadium gates for night games. Plus, security getting into the stadium will be tighter/slower than usual -- always is for the opener, compounded by this being a national event.

If you can't change your arrival time, once you get within 2 miles of the stadium my advice is to park at the very first remote private lot you see and walk/jog the rest of the way, you'll get there quicker.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the banner ceremony will occur prior to the game (or might not if Brady is suspended) but you need to allow for that as well. So for this game in particular, I personally plan to be IN the stadium an hour before kickoff.

You'd be better off flying into Providence. Without traffic, it is more than a 30 minute drive. With normal rush hour, well over an hour. Rush hour + season opener = 1.5 to 2 hours at least.

Thanks guys for all your advice I know it'll be very very close, unfortunately I'm coming from Pittsburgh :)oops:), only flights to Providence on Friday are 4000 dollar private jets according to Kayak LOL. My options were either come at 6 or don't come at all, no way I'm missing this one!

What is the best bet on rush hour from boston? Mass pike or SE expressway @PatsGuy ?

Anytime after 4 there'll b backups
The shorter way is airport to SE expressway to 128 S to 95
Once u break past the Rte 24 exit on 128 traffic will b much better

games on Thursday....assuming that's what you meant I would expect to be late. Ild definitely change the itinerary. Maybe drive from PA instead.

If I recall correctly, there's numerous direct flights from Philadelphia to Providence every day.

Ah yes meant Thursday.. no chance driving from Pitt, I'm stuck with a commitment till 3 PM, grabbing a 430 flight and hoping for the best!

You may well miss the 1st half. Traffic to the stadium is brutal.
Park at the 1st private (cheap) lot you see and jog as fast as possible to the stadium.

If there's no kids involved, and it's just you AND IF you're able to take the silver line and arrive at South Station by 6:15 PM (which will be really tight since your plane lands at 6:00 ), you can take the commuter rail (Franklin Line, check mbta.com) and meet your mom at the stadium. The 6:15 commuter rail train should arrive at the stadium a little before 7:00PM.

Also if you miss the 6:15 PM Franklin Line train, then you're out of luck on the commuter rail option, as the next train is an hour later.

Yeah, normally this would be the case, but on a Patriot game day, and it being the first game of the season, and most likely the banner raising game. Once you break past Rte 24, you're going to be good for 1/2 a mile before hitting the 128/95 traffic.

Advice from person commuting from Charlestown to RI:
Expressway at this time will take you 45min at least (without a tunnel)
Your best bet - take a train from South Station at 6:30 (Providence/Stoughton line)
and meet your mother at Canton Junction(6:57). Then use back roads to Stadium.

The train is an excellent alternative there r regular n free silver line shuttles from the airport to south station

NO!!! The train from Boston to Patriots games is unreliable and I speak from experience. I've missed chunks of the first quarter from that damn train arriving late, and it takes forever on the return trip. NEVER AGAIN!!!
