2016 Draft Prospect Thread

Actually, our Florida guys weren't really so hot. The best was AHern and look what happened there. The good ones were dinks. And, others just flopped. Hope he recruits less-troubled kids at OSU than he did at Florida. Many brought a lot of baggage to the league.
Spikes is still my favorite player in this league, best run stuffing LB in this league, Alex Smith of Urban's Utah's days is also one of my favorite QBs, Riley Cooper is a talented WR I enjoy watch playing, Harvin is a very exciting playmaker, Demps is the most explosive guy in this league, I was a big fan of Cunningham in NE, Pouncey twins are stars, Hill is playing real well as of late and is a future star, Haden is a star, Nelson is having a career year, Jordan Reed has been balling, love Urban products personally, not that they're the best

With the declared underclassmen for 2015 pretty much set, the 2016 draft eligible class is shaping up:

QB: Cardale Jones, Christian Hackenberg, Connor Cook, Kevin Hogan
RB: Ezekiel Elliott, James Connor, Devontae Booker, Tra Carson, Byron Marshall
WR: Laquon Treadwell, Dhaquille Williams, Tyler Boyd, Travin Dural, MarQuez North, Corey Robinson
TE: Jay Rome, Dillon Gordon
OL: Laremy Tunsil, Ronnie Stanley, Taylor Decker, Germain Ifredi, Jack Conklin, Spencer Drango, LeRaven Clark, Jerald Hawkins, Vadal Alexander

DL: Joey Bosa, AShawn Robinson, Robert Nkemdiche, Jarran Reed, Chris Jones, Sheldon Day, Anthony Zettel, Darren Lake, DeForest Buckner, Eddie Vanderdoes, Adolphus Washington
EDGE: Shawn Oakman, Shilique Calhoun, Bronson Kaufusi, Charles Tapper, Emmanuel Ogbah, Leonard Floyd, Eric Striker, Jordan Jenkins, Kyler Fackrell, Geneo Grissom
LB: Myles Jack, Derron Lee, Reggie Ragland, Jaylon Smith, Kris Frost
S: Jalen Ramsay, Jalen Mills, Nate Andrews, Su'a Cravens
CB: Vernon Hargreaves, Kendall Fuller

Just a few of the names who we are likely to be discussing in detail a year from now.

I don't even think he's available in 2016, but Texas A&M's DE Myles Jarrett reportedly ran a 4.46 forty and vertical jumped 40" all at 260lb. A name to remember.

Hasn't been a Big 10 QB picked in the first round since 1995. Could be three if OSU starts Cardale Jones. Cook and Hackenberg being the other two.

Mike Huguenin of NFL.com has one of those "freak athlete" lists. Here's a couple that stood out to me as being potentially interesting:

9. KeiVarae Russell, CB, Notre Dame
Particulars: 5-11, 190, junior
Skinny: Russell missed last season because of an academic suspension, but he should be one of the nation's top corners this fall. Russell has shutdown-corner ability. He has been clocked as fast as 4.34 seconds in the 40, while his broad jump has been measured at more than 11 feet and his vertical jump at 40 inches. In 2012, Russell became the only true freshman in Notre Dame history to start a season opener at cornerback.

8. Kemoko Turay, DE, Rutgers
Particulars: 6-6, 235, sophomore
Skinny: Turay (58) played just one season of varsity football in high school and still is raw; he also played basketball and competed in track (a state-ranked triple jumper and long jumper) in high school in New Jersey. Rutgers coaches saw him in a football camp before his senior year of high school and he flashed his enormous athleticism to the point that he was offered a scholarship. That fall, in his only season of varsity football, he had 19 sacks and signed with the Scarlet Knights. He began to flash last season as a redshirt freshman, leading the Scarlet Knights with 7.5 sacks (tied for third in the Big Ten) and finishing third on the team with 8.5 tackles for loss. He also had three blocked kicks. He runs the 40 in the 4.6s and has a vertical jump reputed to be around 40 inches and a broad jump of a bit more than 10 feet. Turay was born in Ghana and moved to the United States with his parents when he was 3.

Tray is only a RS Soph so more likely one to be considered for 2017.

just watched some short highlights of Turay. Maybe not this year, he's still very raw, but he's a potential first round OLB. Very explosive.

Rob Rang on DJ Foster from the ASU preview:

D.J. Foster, WR, Senior, 5-10, 195, 4.52

As NFL teams become increasingly geared towards the pass, finding versatile offensive weapons capable of creating mismatches is all the rage. That is among the reasons why Foster -- a running back the first three years of his career in Tempe -- switched to wide receiver this season. Catching passes is, of course, nothing new for Foster, who has hauled in a reception in 40 consecutive games and is the only player in the country with 1,500 career rushing and receiving yards already under his belt.

After a celebrated prep career at Saguaro High in Scottsdale, Foster was an immediate hit for the Sun Devils, finishing second on the team with 1,026 all-purpose yards (493 rushing, 533 receiving) in 2012. He earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors a year later with 1,170 all-purpose yards and leading all FBS backs with 653 receiving yards. Foster took over as ASU's primary ball-carrier in 2014 with backfield mate Marion Grice drafted by the San Diego Chargers and responded with the best numbers of his career, leading the team with 1,081 yards and nine scores on the ground. He chipped in another 62 grabs for 688 yards and three scores through the air to earn Second Team all-conference honors.

Whether at receiver or running back, Foster's athleticism is the first thing that stands out. He's a fluid runner with impressive lateral agility, balance and stop-start quickness to avoid would-be tacklers and squirt through gaps. While certainly not a traditional pile-mover, Foster lowers his shoulder on contact and keeps his legs driving to pick up extra yardage. He possesses soft hands and good hand-eye coordination to pluck and secure the football in one smooth motion. To boost his stock, Foster can show improved timing and body control to win jump balls as well as refine his ability to track passes over his shoulder.

Good to see ya posting Manx. I took a little time off. I'd still like to headbutt Goodell. But, it is what it is. We have a lot of picks outside the first round. Got my Phil Steele preview and am getting excited for college football. People around here are pretty pumped about the recruiting PSU is doing. Hope to catch 5-6 games this year.

I presume Ohio State are comfortable favourites this year. Are people expecting 'Bama to be their main rivals? Who else looks good in CFB world?

My way too early thoughts. I am not even looks at players. Just positions.

Here is how likely I think we are to draft certain positions high

QB - no
TE - no
RB - yes
WR - maybe (if Amendola leaves)
OT - maybe (if Solder stays no.. if he leaves yes.. so I put maybe)
G - maybe (depends on rookies)
C - no

DT - no
DE - no
LB - maybe (if Mayo leaves)
CB - yes (even if young guys work out could always use more help here)
S - no

Most thing TCU is going to make the new playoff system. OSU is the prohibitive favorites. Some like Auburn and Georgia in the SEC over Bama. I'd stick with the Tide. Arkansas could surprise. 4TH team will prob be Pac 10 winner with Florida State's losses and recent issues.

Highlight video of Kemoko Turay. Exciting burst, bend and speed to power. Check out how he handles a TE at 1:14.

A couple more interesting prospects:

Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo
5-11, 215

Hunt had 11 runs of at least 20 yards (second-most in the nation, behind only Melvin Gordon) and averaged 7.96 yards on his 205 attempts.

Not bad in a year that featured Ameer Abdullah, Tevin Coleman et al.

Leonte Carroo, WR, Rutgers
6-1, 205

Carroo, who averaged 19.8 yards per catch in 2014, has 83 receptions in the past two seasons -- and 19 have gone for TDs.

One TD every four receptions is productive to say the least.

Barry Sanders,Stanford he doesnt have the numbers right now, but the Bloodlines combined with IQ, screams Patriots to me.
Another one I follow is Andreas Knappe RT UConn, doubt he enters in 2016, but as dane i have to follow him. Only had one player in NFL before, who happens to be Morten Andersen so...

Buddy Brian -Calhoun, CB, Minnesota
5-11, 188

I had him as a 6th rounder in my first mock of the year but I'm moving him up to my early favourite for the 2nd round pick based on:

1. His play:

Nice return skills on that INT. Upside as a punt returner?

Check out the PBU at 4:11

2. His character:

Boddy-Calhoun is a three-time captain of the Golden Gophers and something of a coach on the field; a self-described vocal leader who helps teammates with their understanding of the Minnesota defense and gives a full effort in practice. He overcame a season-ending knee injury in 2013 to lead the team last season in interceptions (5) and pass breakups (9). In the classroom, he's an Academic All-Big Ten pick.

It would be smallish but Malcolm Butler, Darryl Roberts and Buddy Brian-Calhoun would be an interesting CB trio to have long-term. BBC would be a slot/outside guy with similarities in terms of how fluid he is to Jason Verrett and Kevin Johnson.

I am doing a series at each position over at nepatriots.com. I will post links to them as I finish the positions.

Early prediction:

Braxton Miller will be a Patriot once the draft is over. Will be interesting to see how he goes as WR/HB this year.

Washington RB Dwayne Washington is really interesting.

Measurables:

6'2, 226lbs

40: 4.42
Broad: 10'9"
Vert: 36"
3-Cone: 6.49

Roy Helu is a really good comp athletically for Washington based upon these numbers.

All those numbers come from his strength and conditioning coach from the pre-season team combine.

He puts me in mind of a stronger, more dominating rushing version of David Johnson. He has some experience problems - he's a former WR - in two games watched there were a couple of fumbles and some concentration drops and he runs fairly upright but he can really run over guys and once he gets a crease, he's gone!

You can see Washington's video page at the link below if you want to check him out for yourself. Keep an eye on him this year, he finished last year off with four TDs of fifty plus yards.

One other interesting RB is Arkansas' Alex Collins. I thought he was Ridley-esque in the way he has quick feet and sorts through the trash inside,
