Lupica Again!

The Pats never have been instigators, though.

Exactly. A pissing contest is between two aggressors trying to outdo each other.

The first 6 months of this debacle was a public square ass-whipping, with some behind the scene desperate pleas from the whippee to the whipper to please stop and acknowledge the incorrect data dissemination.

Only in the last week when the ass-whipped party stood up and turned around are some in the national press all of a sudden saying "Oh, it's a pissing contest",

I think it is a step by step process. Kessler has attacked Goodell at his weakest point. Hopefully the abuse of process argument will win in court and Brady will play.

Lupica and others seemingly agree with Kessler on this point which is a good thing. Brady may win this battle and get the suspension dropped. After that who knows?

It will be on to the next step. Will Brady sue? Will the Pats sue? Will Roger and his cronies get fired. All that will be up in the air at that point.

Anyways I take the article as more of an attack on Roger, which is good, and less of a support for Brady thing.
he does say he wants Brady to win so I think we've gotta put it in the pro-Brady column.

That evidently was not obvious enough for a couple of posters in this thread.

But he still implies that Brady is guilty of the deflation issue. He only wants Brady to win because he thinks Goodell is abusing his powers.

At this point I don't think I care what his reasons are. Goodell cares so much for perception that the more negative press he gets the better for Brady.

Yes. I completely agree with that.

I think the League Boys Club would say that they were. They were too successful. That's the source of all of this.

Edit: Too much success and Belichick. If BB were better at playing the game, the hate would be less. But BB is who he is and I don't want him to change.

Winning is not instigating, nor is innovating.

in·sti·gate
ˈinstəˌɡāt/
verb
  1. bring about or initiate (an action or event)
  2. incite someone to do something, especially something bad.
I think you know what I mean. The winning instigated or incited the hatred and BB aggravated it with his failure to play their games. The winning and innovation are perceived as arrogance by people who can't compete. And if these guys, who think they are smart, can't compete, then the Pats must be cheating. How else can they explain it?

Winning didn't incite this. Other teams win. Other teams innovate. If you want to point to the actions of the Patriots as an instigation, the theory has been that Brady's telling of the Ravens to read the rule book was instigation that led to this.

But that would be a very broad use of the word "instigate", even if that's what started the chain, and it would not be regarding the 'NFL' and the Patriots.

Many may not have scrolled down enough to notice this nugget in the article:

My friend Mr. Imus suggested the other day if Tom Brady really wanted to get rid of his cell phone, he should just have given it to Hillary Clinton
o_O

One more half-azzed 'defense of Brady while I imply he really still could be guilty comment. But at least this one is funny.

Lupica focuses on the whole process issue( Ommissioner playing too many parts in process) as the biggest problem, and I agree. But he ignores the whole jester clique issue and the resulting dubiousness ness of not just this charge, but the whole patriots are cheaters meme. my biggest hope, that the nflpa would take advantage of this event to get the CBA clause voided, and gut the Ommissioner of some power IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. ( I ask Steph law in her cmts sect and she said flat out NO).

If they did, there is a small chance that would tip the balance in getting enough owners to fire Go-to-hell. Instead, we have to rely on RK having enough intestinal fortitude to put forward the proposition and influence to successfully get it put through (In other words--- FAT CHANCE)

ok, so what do you think is the motivation behind this ongoing conspiracy to bring down the Patriots?

BB leaving the Jets and Kensil holding his nuts precipitated all this. Isn't it an odd coincidence that no one had a bad word to say about the Patriots organization until Goodell and crew slimed their way in, back in 2006. I mean, within a year, even an idiot like Marshall "peepoo" Fork was seeing cameras taping Rams walkthroughs back in 2001!!!
This has always been incited by very wealthy very powerful NY centric individuals. Just peruse the NFLoffices roster and hiring practices.

I don't know. None of us do. It's all speculation. Some have speculated that this really centers around a combination of factors, including Kensil having a grudge against BB going back to the days when BB was with the Jets.

Fat chance at the moment. I think we will see the brilliance of Kessler in the next coming months and that Fat Chance may turn into Good chance.

Again, I see this as a step by step process in that first we will see Brady's suspension dropped and then second .....well who knows....we can start dreaming a little more deeply after that.

you're correct by definition but I do agree with what Hoodie meant.

Not to jump into the middle of an argument especially with a few cups of wine in me but I feel like I am witnessing two fans arguing the same point.

Yup, it's all speculation. Kensil, may have a grudge dating back to the Jets but what about the Colts and Ravens who probably started it all? When one team is perceived as too successful in a league that discourages it, these guys are actively working to hurt them. If BB and the Pats weren't winning, I don't think this would be happening. But, as you say, it's all just speculation.

The Steelers have more Lombardis than the Patriots, and they have more of them since 2005, yet they aren't under the same assault. The Ravens have as many Lombardis as the Patriots since that time, yet they are rumored to be one of the teams behind this. It's not just winning. Winning leads to jealousy, but something has to take it from that point.

But jump in, by all means. Any ideas on this can be interesting.

I see nothing much positive in this article. Basically Lupica thinks Brady is guilty of deflating balls, and the only reason Lupica wants Brady to win in court is because he thinks Goodell is a more despicable person.. Personally I don't think that stories like this are designed to put the Pats in a positive light. Quite the opposite.

Articles like this SEEM to be pro-Pats, but they generally are more anti-Goodell.

Agree, the article doesn't really help the patriots/Brady cause, but may help any eventual ' fix the nfl' cause.

Some of that might have to do with the fact that the Rooneys have owned the Steelers for 82 years.
