You want action? Kraft has a PLAN

Do you mean he should have rejected the penalty, then selected a player in the first round next year and walked up to the podium and announced the name while another team was actually drafting someone?

I would've liked to have seen him go up there and pull on some draftee's arm to haul him away.

It's too late. It's in court. Now the NFL and the owners are party to this. They can't turn back. That time is past. Too much damage to Brady and to Kraft's brand.

This can have legal repercussions down the road that the owners will need to resist, so they can't do anything for Kraft now. That time is over.

Kraft had a chance. He blew it.
Once Brady wins Kraft has the ability to recant his acceptance of the sanctions
he never had any leverage, which is why he accepted.

pretty sure I remember him saying what a great job roger was doing when he was sticking it to dallas and wash on that salary dump, so how do you think jerry feels about this?
there's a lot of teams, so maybe he even has a few allies on this, but there's a solid bloc of teams that think all this is just peachy.
Jerry and Snyder were guilty. Pats arent

well, I understand that, but do you think that's how jerry looks at it?
do you think if you explained that to jerry he'd come over to our side, or would he be gleefully watching kraft get roasted?

The owners have backed Goodell and therefore ceded any chance that the next CBA will be negotiated rather than end up in court. It's not only the NFLPA that will be looking for major changes, but also the big market owners over the 8 or 9 little guys.
We've heard very little of the 32. I pointed out Mara/Jones because they have been public.

I'm not sure where the majority lie, but this could be a case of bad publicity actually being bad publicity. I know the Patriots of all teams have little to no fan support from other teams. But, I'm sure there's alot that goes on that people shouldn't be made aware of (to keep the business looking ok)

Why did Bob Kraft fold in May???????

My answer to that is simple - despite all the evidence he continued to trust his friend. He believed Roger Goodell had integrity. He believed Roger Goodell was simply doing what Roger thought was right. Frighteningly enough, Roger Goodell may *still* believe that what he does is reasonable. I have no idea but I (fearfully) think that's possible.

Bob Kraft has now discovered what many of you knew long ago (I was a little late hopping on the train but did get there before Bob Kraft). As a great businessman, I think Bob will apply his business principles:

- find the facts
- fix the problem
- publicly admit mistakes

Bob Kraft knows the facts but the other owners really don't. The owners need to be educated and on the same page; then they can go to the next step.

Now the other owners may or may not go along with Bob; I don't know. But I have hope that the truth will win out despite being a casualty in many battles over the past 9 years of Roger Goodell.

I was watching a rerun of The Good Wife the other night when Eli shared his advice of how to combat a lie - with a bigger lie. Yes, that can work (and did in a hilarious way in that episode). But the truth also has awesome power when it is unleashed. That's why it is so feared and people go to great lengths to obscure, deny and hide it. If the owners are willing to consider the truth, then I think the league can right itself.

He sure doesn't.

Bob took it in the posterior for Spygate. He practiced what he preached. In fairness Jones and Snyder, IMO shouldn't have been sanctioned. Tom Benson shouldn't have been sanctioned. Kraft shouldn't have been sanctioned for freaking ball pressure without proof.

Goodell is out of freaking control. I get treating players like poop- but owners? Someone needs to expose this guy. Maybe the time is right and Bob has the stones to do it. Don't know.

This has always been obvious to me.
Who is the nemesis of the owners? The players and the NFLPA. The only threat to their pocketbook is the players and CBA negotiations and the split of the money.
They have very successfully held them down by negotiation CBAs that put Roger Goodell in power over them. What will the next CBA be about? Goodell or money? See the point?
By Kraft challenging Goodell he usurps his authority. If an owner can challenge Goodell surely players can.
Kraft was told that weakening Goodell weakens the 32 by weakening the stranglehold they have over the NFLPA.
I thought this was obvious
Cheap bastards, ppl risking their lives and they are steal bout money. If they could make money with concussions probably players would have space helmets that can absorb asteroid, instead on Borland and early retirement, they are focusing on 0,1 PSI.

I think it's worth pointing out the Kraft has astonished us twice in the past few days. (What was your reaction during Kraft's press conference statement and then again when you read the email exchange with the league?)

- on Wednesday, he effectively said that he had no confidence in the league or its integrity
- on Friday, he instituted an attack on the league (using the truth) on the fairness of the league

I think it's very reasonable that there are more arrows in the quiver. From my perspective, the obvious next step is what this thread is all about - convincing the other owners that a fair, impartial investigation of the league's practices is needed.

This is not going away. If this doesn't get addressed in the near future, it will still be an issue 6 months or 6 years from now. If the owners don't do something now, maybe they'll be willing to do something a year from now. I don't see Bob Kraft backing off this issue; he looks totally committed to me. But who knows, I've been wrong before. :)

By the way, Kraft did not "accept" the penalties or admit any wrong doing. quite the contrary.

He said appealing was futile, presumably that it was a waste of time with goodell as arbitrator.

We have just witnessed a player, with a union, directly charged, go through the entire arbitration process. Did Brady get a fair hearing? Was it a waste of time, except for the fact that Brady has a union grievance?

Yes, the arbitration process was a joke.

Kraft was right.

Can Kraft sue the league and try yo take down the antitrust exemption, destroy the salary cap etc. sure, you can sue anyone if you have the money. He could have sued in May.

Doesn't change the fact that he was right about arbitration.

Remember the early and unequivocal support he gave the POS after the Rice fiasco. For whatever reason, Kraft despite all the biased and corrupt actions to the contrary starting in 2007 has a blind spot concerning Goodell. I still don't think he blames him directly for the witch hunt.

Roger Goodell has finally done it; he has overseen an investigative process which is nothing less than a vendetta against a team which believes first, foremost and always in integrity.

In reading http://wellsreportcontext.com/, it is crystal clear that the Patriots both individually and corporately could hardly have been more cooperative and dedicated to fairness and full disclosure. On the other hand, the NFL office and their lackey, Wells and team, reek of partiality, moving the goalposts, obscuring truth, leaking lies, refusing to investigate, breaking their own investigative rules and smearing anyone they wanted (apparently) without any thought that they could be held accountable for their actions.

I believe Robert Kraft has said that this must stop and must stop now.

The first step was the press conference on Wednesday where Kraft said, "I was wrong to put my faith in the league".

The second step is the updating of the Wells Report Context website with this email exchange.

I believe the third step will be the action (not just words) that many on this site are screaming far. No, not a lawsuit. But a call to the other NFL owners for a truly fair and impartial investigation into the League office and how they conduct their business that will be made at the August 11th owner's meeting. An investigation that was promised by Roger Goodell but that never happened.

You can't follow this website and this story without realizing how fundamentally unfairly the NFL office has treated the Patriots.
- from not sharing the allegations the day before the game with the Patriots to insure a fair game
- to Mike Kensil telling a Patriots' employee, "you're in big f---ing trouble" at halftime
- to the leaking of totally false information 3 days after the game
- to refusing to correct this false information despite DEMANDS of the Patriots that this be done
- to abusing the investigative process ground rules that were agreed upon to
- to refusing to investigate the League office despite this being a mandate of their mission
- to hiring Exponent, a firm known first and foremost for its willingness to bend any and all facts to fit the whims of their client
- to producing a report that is the most slanted report I've ever read in my life (by far)
- to creating new grounds to find someone guilty (generally aware???)
- to piling assumption upon assumption to reach a conclusion that it was "more probable than not" that balls were deflated by what is ultimately a tiny amount
- to accusing the Patriots of not cooperating when the Patriot organization went well above and beyond any reasonable definition of cooperation and only objected on one point when the Wells team refused to follow their own ground rules of behavior
- to accusing Tom Brady of not cooperating when he also went well above and beyond any reasonable definition of cooperation and only objected to handing over his cell phone (on the advice of lawyers) - and even would have done that had the investigators even hinted that he might be punished for not sharing his cell phone
- to Roger Goodell not handing down the penalty in violation of the CBA
- to Roger Goodell ruling in his own favor without a hearing that he did hand down the penalty
- to Roger Goodell ruling in his own favor without a hearing that he was fit to be the arbitrator
- to telling the NFLPA that they would only have 4 hours to present their appeal defense - and then publicly denying this
- to refusing to share any information about the investigation due to lawyer-client privilege
- to refusing to allow the NFLPA to call relevant witnesses (including the co-lead of the investigation!) in their defense at the appeal
- to using the "destruction" of the phone as a basis for upholding the appeal - something that is not even allowed to be considered in the appeal since it wasn't part of the evidence going into the appeal
- to smearing Tom Brady with the appeal decision headlines that he destroyed his phone knowing full well that they had been given ALL of the relevant data (and more) and had all of the relevant data when the Wells Report was first written

Of course there is more that could be added. But the point is clear - there is a cancer in the NFL offices. We recognize that that cancer starts first and foremost with Roger Goodell as he has personally overseen the process and made many of the fundamentally unfair decisions regarding the process.

This is no longer about deflating footballs. This is about having a fair and impartial process. Bob Kraft put his faith in the League office - and for quite a while, I did too. I actually had confidence as Bob Kraft did that a fair and impartial investigation would be conducted and that the Patriots would be exonerated. We couldn't have been more wrong.

Fair and impartial process. This is where the name Patriots came from. Our forefathers cringed at the unfair process (no taxation without representation) imposed by the mighty British Empire. This is why a revolution was started 240 years ago. And this is why I believe Bob Kraft has started down the path of a revolution in these past few days.

- An investigation into the NFL office MUST be conducted.
- It MUST be fair and impartial.
- When that investigation is done, the (high-level) results MUST be shared with the public.
- Those responsible for creating and enforcing processes that arbitrarily and unfairly punish teams and individuals MUST be held accountable.
- The NFL MUST apologize for any improper actions in the past.

Good luck, Robert Kraft. The hopes of Patriots nation and football fans everywhere are with you.

Although I respect your positive attitude & hope your right, I just can't give Kraft credit for something he hasn't done.

I know, I know....

I thonk Kraft knows Goody is unethical but because of his position as comissioner and lack of fellow owner support, he is careful not to be taking him directly head-on. This the reason why he threw the NFL office and league under the bus and only used Goodell's name as it relates to the appeal and his hope that by accepting the sanctions provided Tom with a clear path to explain his side.

He knows Goody screwed him. He just needs to be careful how head-on he wants to take him down.

The taking Goodell down train left the station with Rice fiasco thanks in no small part to Kraft. After Kraft's capitulation, he really has no options to fight with now that Goodell is stronger than ever and no other owner will support him.

He has legal options still. Not sure he has the guts.

I agree, and despite their whining, they weren't even really punished. As I explained in my other (much more long winded) post, all the league did was say "We are going to take these contracts with no signing bonuses but obscenely high 1st year salaries and consider those first year salaries as signing bonuses and measure them against the cap accordingly."

That's fine. Just give him credit for what he's done in the past few days. We'll see what the future holds.

I think the OP is living in a fantasy if he thinks there's any teeth behind this. Kraft is basically having a temper tantrum. He's not going to throw any real weight behind it. When push comes to shove, he's going to eat a **** sandwich.

I will, but what has he done?

He apologized twice to the fans that appeared to me to be more damage control for Bob Kraft than support for Tom Brady?

Has he said anything negative with Goodell's name attached?

Has he requested an investigation about false leaks from Kensil?

Has he requested that anyone in the NFL office be investigated?

What exactly has he done except apologize to the fans for trusting the NFL?

What a great effort by you TS. I could feel the adrenaline rising with every great point you made. And then there was the nagging question that we can't seem to answer, at leas to my satisfaction.

Why did Bob Kraft fold in May???????

He knew about the emails. He knew about all the holes in the Welles report. He knew the NFL was violating the CBA in the process. He knew that this was merely a witch hunt perpetrated by a small cabal of Pats haters within the ownership and league offices. So WHY then, with an overwhelming amount of evidence on HIS side, did Robert Kraft accept the league's penalties in May. What in the world did Goodell say to him that could have possibly moved him off his rock solid position.

I don't believe it was because "he could get a better deal for Brady". WTF is a "better deal" when nothing but complete exoneration taints Tom's legacy forever. He had sure win and gave it away, and for WHAT?

You make a STRONG case for the Pats, but until I know what Goodell said to Kraft that May day, I will have questions. Not about the Pats' and Brady's innocence in this case. That's been made clear. But rather what OTHER thing did Goodell hold over Kraft's head that made him make the worst decision of his ownership.

THAT is the question that anyone who is a fan of the Pats wants to know

I honestly believe Goodell outright lied to Kraft's face. He made Kraft believe that if he accepted the team penalty he would go easy on Brady. With pressure from the owners and no stomach to take the NFL to court, he took what he thought was the best deal available.

Perhaps these emails are setting the stage for a Jastremski, McNally lawsuit, he should fund it. Best way to get the public against the NFL exec, David Golaith suit. I wish :D
