Mortensen to address initial #DeflateGate report on WEEI

I haven't watched espn forever but out of curiosity turned on nfl insiders for a few minutes and it was almost like Mort tried to get a little something good in about Brady, saying how he read everything and how Brady has good case....but that was it, none of the others commented on it just switched subject. Do you think Mort is feeling bad but being told to keep his mouth shut or just that he's simply feeling the heat?

I think he feels bad. He seems to be sending a message with his email to WEEI. Subtle but something at least. Who knows what kind of threats have been made. I hope something happens to get the truth out. Someone with some connections needs to get some answers. There is always someone who has an axe grind.

Mort should be gone along with the **** in the NFL/league who leaked the info that caused this

I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I kind of feel bad for Mort. He was given false facts and told to run with it, and then when those facts were proven false he (most likely) is being prevented from admitting so.

His only choices are to admit being used and lose his job as well as ruin his reputation and never work as a reporter, or just stay silent and use the cover of the court system to wait it out. I know what I would do, but I can understand not many doing the same and instead try to save their job.

Public opinion would be on Mort's side if he leaked the source. I disagree with the lose his job theory. Yeah, the NFL might try to punish him by not giving him any more information but that's certainly not going to boost the damage control for the NFL.

New narrative. Is reason why ESPN won't let Mort fix because fear that NFL will punish ESPN with weak MNF schedule? There is a real basis for this http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...sh-espn-with-bad-monday-night-football-games/

"The first inkling of this popped up July 1 in a Hollywood Reporter story about Olbermann’s negotiations with ESPN and the network’s desire for him to stop with the “commentary” on his ESPN2 program, especially when it pertained to Goodell"

Feels bad? He's supposed to be a journalist and a Christian [apparently means something to him, it's prominent in his bio].

He's had a long career and he's willing to have "liar and weasel" be his legacy because he's afraid.

His choice.

i feel bad for Mort that he wasn't man enough to make amends to the story. I don't blame him for going with the story at all. I get it, it's hisnjob and that was a big bone thrown his way.

However, he wasn't man/Christian enough to repair the damages when he knew he had been used. It's like telling the principal you know who stole the money from school store because your friend told you he did. Come to find out later you hear someone bragging that they did it and they are laughing cuz they pinned it on the guy you snitched on. And you say nothing letting the innocent get expelled/suspended. Lame example I guess.

What I'm getting at though, is how can anyone feel sorry for Mortensen when he has done nothing dispel the lie he was coerced into reporting? Sorry he got used but chose not to do the right thing? It almost sounded like he was going to come forth and correct it yesterday. Maybe he did name Kessel privately to Dennis? Points for that if he did but no points for hiding out for 6 months and letting this sham linger.

It sounds more like to me that he wanted to wait until Brady was stir fried and suspended and then he would address it after the fact.(for a fee of course.) Who is that serving here?

Mortensen had his chance to make this right yesterday. With the emails from Pash, can you imagine if he had named Kensil as his source? When Pash was so "meh" on it being anyone from the League office? Thanks a lot, Mort, you ****head.

Maybe Mort was pressured not to reveal it by ESPN, but maybe he's WEEI's source. His comment "I hope Tom Brady wins" leads me to believe he's pissed about being lied to and he intended to, if not reveal it, let the source be known.

I know most on this board hate Olbermann, but I'd really like to hear from him about this, like RG--worse person in the world-type rant.

Whoever gave the bogus info to Mort should step up, be a man and admit to it rather than let Mort dangle out there and take all the hits. I'm thinking that if the person who leaked this info wasn't part of something nefarious they would have said something to relieve the burden Mort has been put under. This solidifies my thought that it was Kensil who leaked the info, which makes him all the more despicable.

Mort's in a tough spot. Yes, he's a Christian but he's also a father who has to make a living to support his family. That comes first.

If Cowherd can get another job in the business so can Mortensen. If Espn fired him for giving up his lame NFL source it would expose them nationally. From what I read Mortensen is well respected by his peers. Espn would be opening themselves up to a ****storm of journalists trashing them for this.

I want to hate him. I just think there is so much more going on that we don't know about. It's easy to say he should fall on his sword. The whole story I hope cones out some day.

I heard him last week mocking Brady for wasting resources to restore his legacy. F Olberman!

I'm no legal expert but can't we find some friendly judge in Minnesota to hold him in contempt of court until he reveals his source? Ha.

Oh I bet he was. I'm sure they talked before the scheduled interview. Would make sense woundn't it?
It does totally. Mort would have to have lot of faith in Dino not to out him as the source....
