Barstool More Credible than ESPN

Through all the foolishness over there ... Barstool does get it IMO.

I also do enjoy the 'Guess that Ass' ......... ;)

Portnoy's a joker, but he's been pretty spot-on with all of this:

http://www.barstoolsports.com/bosto...ecap-to-the-deflategate-conspiracy-factsonly/

What does it say that a self-described smut peddler is more on top of a huge national story than the mainstream sports media? What a joke.

Well, he doesn't have a cash cow to worry about pissing off for one. The big issue is the NFL coverup. What happened with Mort today is a red flag and potentially extremely damaging to ESPN and the NFL.
I heard a caller ask why no one from New England hasn't done any investigating. Very good question.

Portnoy, as smarmy and snivelling as he is, isn't in ESPN's back pocket & isn't an NFL mouthpiece or stooge a la mortensen, bedard, Bertie breer etc...

Here is why the OP is spot on:

ESPN has a multi-year multi-billion contract with the NFL. Every word written and said is compromised and agenda-driven.

Barstool Sports does not.

Autonomy and freedom of speech is EVERYTHING.

Good summary, I was thinking about writing up something similar but he saved me the trouble. Instead, I'll just post the outline of the "lies" portion.
  • NFL lied about psi in media leaks
  • NFL aggressively refused to correct said leaks
  • NFL lied about K-ball leaks
  • NFL lied that the pressure drop could only be explained by other causes
  • Despite this being refuted numerous times by virtually every credible scientific source, Goodell maintained that lie in his appeal decision
  • NFL lied that it was Troy Vincent who levied punishment, corrected the lie and then went back to the pretext of that lie to allow Goodell to be arbitrator.
  • NFL lied that the investigation was independent, even going as far as refusing to let NE have the notes to prepare for appeal and having those lawyers act as council for them during the appeal.
  • NFL lied in a letter to the Patriots about the psi numbers, both for NE and Indy.
  • NFL lied about what prompted the investigation… several times. First is that the LB who intercepted the ball said it was low. Second was during the K-ball fiasco.
  • During a pre-SB presser, Blandino lied that he had no knowledge of the deflation complaint prior to the AFCCG.
  • Wells lied that the complaint wasn’t a big deal during his presser. Or he lied that it was in his report, take your pick. These aren’t accidental, he deliberately framed the seriousness of the allegations based on the topic at hand.
  • NFL lied that Wells investigated the leaks and the refs.
  • The NFL lied about Brady being limited to 4 hours in a response to Schefter that conveniently came minutes after his initial report.
Of course, if you are a fan of another team, the proper response is, "Derrr... smashed phone.... durrr." Can't argue with that!

Feel free to supplement this list if there is anything I'm missing.

I still think this was all about getting Belichick and when they failed at that you the media firestorm had already commenced (and you get to take away Belichick's most important asset, Tom Brady).

Agreed. ESPN isn't failing to cover this. They're choosing not to. I mean, they did axe their top personality (Simmons) largely because he wouldn't stop roasting Goodell.

Coverup of ref who removed game balls in order to sell them.

This is amazing. I knew someone had to be putting everything together. We want justice!!!

We won't rest until Brady is set free and Mortenson calls WEEI to do the interview on why he wrote a FALSE STORY.

Ironically Roger Goodell would later argue that the fact Brady increased communication with John Jastremski after the Mortensen report was released proved Brady is guilty. Think about that for a second. The NFL fed Chris Mortensen fake information that put Tom Brady in the crosshairs of the media and then when Brady asked Jastermski what the **** was happening they screamed “GOTCHA!”.

Never thought of it that way before. Truly horrible people at the league offices.

Say what you want about pres about you gotta love how fired up he gets about the pats he's as loyal a fan as any of us

This guy has more credibility than ESPN:

This tweet from that article is pretty telling. It's like the league knew from the VERY get-go they were going to take away draft picks no matter what.

That's a great list. When you look at all the stuff they lied about in this situation, from the very beginning up to today, it's pretty staggering. One thing to add, and I'll have to look it up exactly, after the Wells report came out, someone asked if Wells investigated the league and it's conduct. Goodell lied and said that he did and his findings are in the report. There's like one footnote about devoted to it in the report.

My main point is, after you look at all the things the NFL lied about, consider all the 50/50 stuff they interpreted their way, like the explanations for the texts. If they are willing to lie in situations where it can be proven that they are telling the truth, can their interpretations of conversations they weren't present for be relied on?

Because at the top of the sports "media" pyramid is ESPN. ESPN is heavily dependent on the NFL. The NFL uses that, directly or indirectly, to keep ESPN on message.
You might as well ask why does The People's Republic of China run newspaper keep running favorable stories about the Chinese government.
