Some owners want to lessen Godells power

Jason Cole is a solid reporter. He's not immune to being spoonedfed leaks but he's saying he directly spoke to 3 owners. Unless the owners are purposefully misrepresenting their position under anonymity, Goodell doesn't have full support.

BleacherReport is the BuzzFeed of sports news (or is BuzzFeed the BleacherReport of ********?) so this story is likely fake with fake sources.

Jason Cole is not the only one reporting this

The tide is turning, after seeing numerous tweets reporting that owners support Goodell, today we have this.

Irrelevant. This is about the integrity of the English language. Your fine is $10,000 and you are suspended from posting for 4 weeks.
I'm getting off easy I was thinking it was going to be more like a million dollar fine....that is the going fine penalty right? ;)

The key word here is COST and is good news for us. Only thing that owners care about is money and this situation is approaching the red if it's in court for years over nothing

I don't know why Patriots fans like this.

I want to watch Goodell destroy some other NFL franchise, hopefully the Ravens, Colts. They deserve it.

How many times has that been written on this board in the last six months? I don't think it is. Did you see Jerry Jones say how Goodell is doing an "outstanding job" and John Mara saying that Goodell's "intention is to always try to do the right thing." There will be more of that, too. Face it, Goodell makes the owners, Kraft included, a **** ton of money. That's what they care about.

absolutely right, but at some point, all these owners say 'that could be me' ..... especially when it comes down to something obscure turning into something big.....

being strict requires clarity and transparency.........just look at the way the PED violations go.....the penalties are clear and near automatic, but even then, the Richard Shermans find a way......I can see the personal conduct thing being a big gray zone with what happens off the field, but on the field? there's no reason to not have the execution of the game nailed down, and if it's not nailed down, then it shouldn't be penalized

Only reason why goodell will stay is because the nfl would take one of the biggest PR hits in sports in the last decade if goodell was ousted by the owners.

Plus goodell is handing out I.O.Us and favors like crazy

woody johnson- slap on the wrist for tampering
jerry jones- reduction for greg hardy (and just in time to play those Patriots without Brady)

I'm sure he'll help johnson again with sheldon richardson.

Let's be honest the nfl would probably be in the same place financially or maybe even better if someone else was commissioner.

The owners who have benefited from Roger's special treatment will want to keep him. They'll never get the 23 votes (I believe or close to that number) to oust him. I would love Kraft to really start the war and say "I'm pretty sure Roger Goodell and Steve Biscotti were generally aware Ray Rice knocked his wife out in the video and chose not to watch it so they could claim plausible deniability."

The league is about as credible as the WWE right now with Goodell playing a poor man's Vince McMahon and the rest of the Jet's league office filling in the Confederacy of Dunces.

And you defiantly posted again. :D

Kraft, Snyder (hammered w/ $36m in salary cap sanctions), and Benson (Bountygate) are the 3 I see saying soething like this. Maybe Jones as he got hit with a big salary cap penalty too, but unlikely based on recent comments.

Edit: forgot who owned the Saints, d'oh.

I think there is a quite a bit of jealousy generated by other owners of Kraft's "influence" and the credit he has been given for the lockout and also some antagonism towards him from others who maybe feel that Kraft "should take his own medicine" and take his punishment. I would not be surprised if Jerry Jones feels his franchise was unfairly penalized over the salary cap issues and he now sees a chance for payback. There are no doubt going to be power struggles going on behind the scenes with these wealthy and egotistical billionaire owners and a few probably sense a rift between Kraft and Goodell and want to fill the void so to speak.

There really isn't any benefit for owners with doubts coming out publicly against goodell and, of course, votes of confidence might not mean much either. This leads me to wonder if there is any way a commissioner can be removed for cause and his salary negotiated down?

The league has to be on the hook for close too a quarter billion, or some such, because goodell's contract is too big and goes on for years.
Even Presidents can be impeached. It would be a hard sell to expect the owners to eat that contract, but there's also a good possibility goodell could be an embarrassment and legal liability in the future, interrupting the money train, which is what it's all about?

So, any provision for "impeachment" type removal to save money? there are often morals clauses in old contracts and the sheer volume of provable lies and deception might show cause for removal.

Well I can tell you these owners don't

Irsay
Biscotti
Mara
Rooney
Johnson
Jones

Jones is just take "payback is a *****" attitude towards Kraft. Based on Jones' comments, Kraft told Jerry to suck it up when Goodell smacked him with a cap penalty for the uncapped year and he is just now enjoying Kraft getting unfairly treated.

Mara's latest comments were not really all that enthusiastic towards Goodell. It was kinda halfhearted.

But the owners publicly will support Goodell until he goes down in flames. Hell, they publicly supported him during the Ray Rice fiasco.

Jerry Richardson is tight with Kraft. I can see him saying this.

Soooo.... August owners meeting.... Vote of no confidence time?
