Breaking: Mort Backs Out; Dennis Claims Kensil As the Source ofthe Bad Numbers

IIRC I didn't think Pash was there that night.

Blandino and Gardi are a big possibility.

Blandino wasn't there that night, but Blandino did lie about not being notified by Grigson about his accusation prior to the game.

So seeing Mort now backed out of all of this, couldnt Brady's team use this against him and the league ?

Maybe in a defamation case. I'd be surprised if they called him to testify in the initial petition.

We need to get a big media outlet to report this.

Smith said he heard that Kraft backed down in May because there was an agreement after Spygate that if Belichick was caught doing something again, he would be banned (it was implied for life, but Smith later said he did not hear it was for life) and Goodell threatened the ban.

It seems like a BS report because Kraft's shot at Goodell two days ago would have put Belichick back in Goodell's crosshairs otherwise.

yeah........I don't see how 'If BB does anything he will be banned for life' could possibly be enforced.

The league created a **** storm of nonsense and can only navigate it with more nonsense

I said this a long time ago...........ultimately, someone in the NFL front office is going to hang for this.

goodell's out is Kensil, and all goodell needs is plausible deniability about knowing the actions at the AFCC beforehand....in fact, I'd bet goodell already has a counter-action in place in the event the NFL front office gets nuked

the problem that goodell has is that brady is now in a no-lose situation......this thing is not nearly over and yet, it can't get any worse for brady.........you don't want an adversary in that spot

IDK, I don't know if I would have thought something sinister was going on at that point if I was Mort. Not long after I would though and I would start questioning the report.
Mort's been around long enough to know how the NFL operates and how they feel about the Patriots. He should question very "scoop" he gets. A real journalist would, part of the job is being skeptical and that's why they used to need confirmation by at least one other source.

One other thing that doesn't make sense to me -- Mort had to talk to WEEI before agreeing to come on. He had to know what he was going to be asked. PFT talked about it yesterday. It was all over the media. For him to back out today, somebody had to get to him.

His comment about hoping Brady wins might be his little dig that this wasn't his idea.

John Dennis confirmed through his source that Troy Vincent was the leak to Stephen A. Smith about the "destroyed" cellphone and Belichick being "one strike away".
I'll buy Dino a round of golf at Granite Links and some Bombay-n-tonics if he tells me who is source is.

Guess: Jonathan.

The problem is "banned" is also use for suspensions (i.e., "a four-game ban"), so it's impossible to say for sure what the truth was, assuming this is true at all.

I'm disappointed it hasn't been picked up - at least not yet. Ever Florio, who promoted the Mort appearance, hasn't mentioned it.

He seems hesitant to go to bat with the info coming from John Dennis, because I have no doubt he knows what was said on WEEI this morning.

No link. Die hard Jets fan told me who has a family member who did marketing for the team.

He went on to say that when Tuna took over in 1997, there was a major power struggle. Tuna (you know how he is) was hired by Leon Hess and wrestled complete control of all-things football from the old guard (Kensil's dad who was declining in health) his son, Mike was in charge of football ops. Mike had this vision of taking over the presidency (which later went to Steve Gutman) If you recall, BB was Tuna's #2 and he went on to say that Tuna wanted Bill to get the football ops the way they had done it in Foxboro. Bill politely approached Kensil with his asks and Kensil told BB to basically F off (thats not how we do it here). Shortly thereafter, Kensil started stonewalling some of BB's asks around ops and furthermore Kensil started to embarrass BB in meetings. In the end, BB- through Tuna through Hess marginalized Kensil's authority in every and all aspect of football ops and was basically relegated to pushing pencils and ordering towels. IE- Kensil blames BB for destroying him politically in the NYJ. Mangini was part of it in 1997 and he then shared how much of a jerk Kensil was with Woody Johnson, he made it more uncomfortable for him and he eventually left (not sure fired or quit) and went to the NFL.

I'm believing the source b/c I've known this person for over 20 years and it not a BSer.

Up to you if you and others want to believe but for me it answers the question why Kensil has such a vendetta for BB and why he is all over this.

I believe it 100% -- thx for the story
think about it, kensil's father running jets all those years passes torch on to his son --- baby kensil probably thought that was his team.
that was his house -- better to rule in hell, etc

100% guarantee you he's got a huge lifetime axe grinding for belichick.

belichick did make kind of an offhand comment very early on that some people should definitely be investigated, or something like that.

how could this possibly be true?
brady goes to appeal hearing and goodell then announces 'punishment upheld and oh yeah, I've decided to ban belichick, too'?

His comment about hoping Brady wins might be his little dig that this wasn't his idea.

But his dig at Kraft was completely unecessary and complete BS. F him he is a worm I hope he gets face cancer.

Won't ever happen.

But just remember, this is all about "integrity."

Side note: changed my sig today, replaced Kraft with Mort. Still pissed at Kraft, but decided he's a "schlamazel" rather than a "schlemiel."

That dig didn't make much sense to me. Kraft made his statement before Mort agreed to go on D&C. So to blame Kraft (in part) for his backing out was pretty wussy.

Those of you who use Twitter should think of setting up a #tellusmort type of situation, and spreading this all around the net. Pound Mort and ESPN with demands, and spread the word that ESPN and Mort won't come clean.

He told me the story a couple of of months ago over dinner in NYC. The family member was an embedded executive marketing consultant so that person had some substantial visibility.

It makes sense. Ties together a lot of statements, history and what has been reported.

I'm surprised not one post has talked about what a GOOD thing Mort backing out was. Top deflategate news today is Mort being unwilling to address false info fed to him by NFL. I think that just helps the narrative and if this particular story has any legs, wouldn't be surprised to see the NFL counter with another leak.
