I have one thought about the move Mort and ESPN pulled...greasy, like Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys...real greasy

hidemyass keeps logs for up to two years. Private Internet Access keeps no logs and is only something like $7 a month or $40 a year.
I am aware of that, will not be renewing with them. ty

In fairness to Mortensen, he received this info from the VP of Gameday Operations for the NFL. That's a pretty good source.

The problem is that Mort's source never helped him print a retraction.

The question is why. That is what I want to know.

Yup...though I will say, aren't you supposed to have two sources to run with anything like this? Mortensen was right to trust a high-ranking NFL official (in theory) but did he or didn't he confirm the sources info? If he did then who was source number 2, if he didn't then shame on Mort for not doing his due diligence on the biggest leak in sports in years.

And further, we can only hope that Mort is pissed at the way he was used to pump a fake story. After the Wells report was released he must have been floored. I truly get the sense that he's a good journalist and a good person, he works for a ****ty organization but I think he tries to do things the right way. He can't just out his sources, he'd be done in the business, but he has to be wondering why the F they never came back to him to correct the story. Maybe that's why he's rooting for Brady to get this wiped, and it's possible that Dennis got his 'leak' from Mort. Not likely, but it may be a bit of retribution without having to say it himself and ruining his career.

Watching the NFL crash and burn over this feels the same as winning the Super Bowl.

According to D&C, Kraft capitulated because he assumed the punishment would be reduced.

They listed a bunch of names of previous players who had been suspended and had it reduced (Haynesworth, Roethlisberger, etc)

According to D& C, Kraft believed there was a "gentleman's understanding" that if Kraft let it go, it would "virtually go away"

They mentioned the classic Animal House line: Kraft messed up, he trusted them

SOoooooooooooo....what's the BIG scoop today.......????

A bunch of air time with nothing resolved, speculation and wild ass guesses

It's not speculation or guesses. It's sourced.

Mort is a coward of epic proportions. He was never going to name names. Why not take away the Pats fans and others questioning why he has never addressed this issue? No he will increase the rhetoric against him. I expect him to get blasted locally and by Florio.

As for Dennis naming Kensil, it means nothing unfortunately. Tom Curran has been screaming this for months and nothing has happened.

Kraft should sue Kensil personally for defamation. This would be his way around suing the league which will piss off his fellow owners and still trying to get his pound of flesh.

Very much this. If I'm Kraft, I'm having my attorneys file the paperwork to take Kensil to court as we speak. As for Mort, he's clearly beginning to feel the heat. I guarantee you that he thought this whole thing would have blown over by now. This is the difference between how Spygate was handled by the Patriots and how Deflategate has been handled. In Spygate, the team just sat back and took it and Mortensen types ran wild without fear of reprucussion. This time, the team has come out swinging and these same types are now getting their feet held to the fire.

He's an absolute coward.
I'm losing track of the antecedents for the pronouns in this thread. Use names or initials, please. Who is "he" here, Kensil or Mortensen?

They made the NFL conspiracy the issue, they made a case that people on this site are aware of that the general public is clueless about, they even got the Kensil information out nationally via Profootballtalk. This is a great public service the PR war as opposed to the trashing and mindless hate being spewed by Felger squeaky shank Borges tangway and the NFL ball washers in the national media.

That is. BFD.

So BSPN is in cahoots with the league to set up the Patriots.
By publishing a retraction, ESPN and the NFL both look bad.

It was not in either party's best interest to highlight the truth.

Mort. Kensil just sucks at life.

It was a high ranking source as according to Shefter that'd good enough.

I also don't think Mort knew that there was something very sinister going on behind the scenes...

I'll never forget on a Monday morning in January driving the kids to an indoor soccer tournament and Brady being asked about deflated footballs by D&C.

Incredible...
