Mortensen to address initial #DeflateGate report on WEEI

I disagree with Florio. They absolutely know they're being used, both of them. Both have been reporters for more than 20 years (30 for Mortensen), and know how things work. That said, they don't know that their sources are outright lying to them.

Perhaps it's Florio who doesn't understand how it works, since he hasn't really been a reporter very long at all.
IMHO, media members don't mind being used IF the report is accurate. It would have been a feather in Mort's cap if he broke the sports story of the year with accurate information.

That would be quite impressive, and I would have a lot of respect for him in doing so.

Still doesn't quite explain the timeline in regards to dragging his heels, but maybe there was a reason?

If he actually burns his source (huge if, don't think he will), I'd imagine the timing would have something to do with waiting until after the appeal. Either him giving the league every chance to do the right thing or not realizing until now how badly he was lied too, or some nonsense like that. Doesn't make a lot of sense though, so who knows

As much as I want it to be Kensil I just can't bring myself to raise my hopes that high.

It can be anyone from the league office. It doesn't need to be Kensil. It could be Pash. A former player like Troy Vincent, who is scummy enough to do it. So long as it's someone from the league office or another team.

John being told doesn't mean John can share.

Let's just hope Mort is willing to strike a match and start a fire.

Agree. But John wouldn't tease unless he could share the goods. Otherwise there's gonna be a lot of pissed off people.

Maybe he just put it together.

Maybe he just got it cleared by ESPN?

Maybe he just got sick of being told "keep quiet about it" by ESPN and is deciding to right a wrong?

I dunno, but it's really surprising he would do this. Especially someone who has been such a lackey for the league for so many years.
Maybe he is actually trying to live up to his twitter profile and try and right a wrong he was involved in. If he did that I would have ultimate respect for him.

That would be amazing....If Mort told the NFL, release the name of my source or I will. If he does, he'll do it on ESPN before going on WEEI...unless the NFL releases it first. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

You're absolutely right, which is why I think it would be a jerk move to drop that bomb on Twitter but then refuse to share.

(It doesn't matter to me who shares the info, but if this is all one big bleep-tease, I'll be really mad)

If his knowing allows him to advance the story, we still end up ahead, even if it doesn't all come out. Let's not overhype this. Let's put ourselves in the position of being pleasantly surprised by anything more than the most minor bit of shared information, rather than in a position of being disappointed by anything less than a proverbial nuclear blast going off in the NFL offices.

Hope I'm wrong but this is probably some huge tease to get listeners. I'm not holding my breath on mort doing what's right.

Ultimate goes kind of far. He had up until Tuesday morning to do this and waited until after the decision was handed down.

Messed with a mans life and legacy. Not to mention the trainers and staff as well as fans across the country.

If there does happen to be bite to this then yes, that would be redeeming and the right thing to do.

But let's not go overboard and call it ultimate.

We will see tomorrow but if he does the right thing he will be a man of principle in my eyes. Not expecting it but hopeful. I have been needling him enough about it on he not living up to his purported ethics.

Best case scenario: Goodell. Next best: Kensil

I almost don't care who it is, as long as it makes it more likely Brady is playing Week 1.

He's not going to give up his source and he will "apologize" that the information was wrong but not that he reported it.

Nothing has gone our way so far in this case. Hope we get some bit of good news tomorrow. Just a gut feeling were getting trolled.

While we're on the topic of Kensil, remember the common theme between what the Pats accuse Kensil of saying at halftime and what Mort's tweet said.
"We weighed the balls. You are in big f—ing trouble."
"NFL has found that 11 of the Patriots footballs used in Sunday’s AFC title game were under-inflated by 2 lbs each, per league sources."

Both incorrectly refer to weight, not air pressure. Either Mort's source was equally misinformed (which I definitely won't rule out) or it's the same person.

It makes no sense to troll for one day's worth of listeners.

Especially when the listeners that don't listen regularly will likely never listen again.

I hate that show with the fire of a thousand burning suns, but I'm going to listen tomorrow. If they screw me over, then WEEI can **** right off as far as I'm concerned, and I'll never listen to them again.

Good catch Mr Holmes. Hope those clues are correct.

I hate to be a wet blanket here, but using "pounds" instead of "psi" is way too common to take this as proof that it was Kensil.
