Mortensen to address initial #DeflateGate report on WEEI

You're not going to get what you want. He's just going to make a bunch of lame excuses.
But he's going to get hammered and his integrity will be called into question publicly.
You let yourself be used to leak damaging disinformation that blows up nationally and your response is to sit back, stay quiet and say nothing regarding that damaging lie for months??
Only someone who was a willing accomplice acts that way.

Mortensen is in the bag for the NFL office and I want Kirk to tell him that point blank.

I almost hope Minihane isn't there, so a couple of former actual reporters (Well, one reporter and one teleprompter reader) can try to finesse an answer out of another experienced reporter.

Leave the yelling JAG at home.

Via PFT,
“If that is indeed the case that one, two, three high-level individuals intentionally misled him to try to smear the Patriots, I saw more shame on those people than Mort,” Schefter said.

I agree with Schefter, that whoever supplied the false info is most at fault. Still, Mort needs to name names. His rep has been damaged and he needs to out those that damaged it. Otherwise, he remains a pawn

He'll never name names. And it's true that I don't really blame him if he got burned by previously reliable sources. I do blame him for going silent rather than vocally acknowledging that he got the story wrong. If he had been even a little proactive about that I would have no problem with him, even knowing that naming names just isn't on the table.

Anonymous sources are all these guys have. Schefter is the best because he has the most sources telling him the most stuff. If Mort outed his sources, he would basically be guaranteeing that he never got a scoop again.

this interview is getting too much hype IMO .. The fix is in ... This interview will be a dud, and then the 3 stooges will be pounding their chest .. "Yeah, We asked the tough questions.."

Nothing Mortenson can say will be a satisfactory answer to us, so let's not expect anything.

While I'd agree that the source of the leak is to blame moreso than Mort, it is still he who is a little coward unwilling to admit to his wrong report. A report that did severe damage to TB12 and our team.

Of course he can get away with it so why would a little coward feel obligated to truthfully give an answer? It's no surprise.

Again, you're assuming he was allowed to do so publicly.

Within a couple of weeks of the initial report, ESPN had already both edited it, and then deleted it completely. Thinking he may not have been free to talk about it because of his bosses at ESPN isn't that far of a stretch, I don't think.

i doubt this is any kind of special interview that will bring breaking news. hes not going to disclose his sources. he wouldve done that already

I bet ESPN is worried about being named in a possible (if unlikely) Kraft defamation suit against the NFL. Maybe Kessler threatened to call him in the current filing? Better safe than sorry, dump the story and print/make a retraction. Blame the other guy. Other than that, I'd be surprised.

Who cares if all people are telling him is lies

He does, because as long as he has scoops he'll keep getting clicks. He hasn't been taken down over this. Outside of New England, barely anyone cares that he reported BS as fact.

The best we can hope for tomorrow is an acknowledgement that he was given the wrong information, which will largely fall on deaf ears, almost nobody outside New England will care about, and will make no difference at all on the PR front

Just accuse Mort of cheating. He repeated a lie without fact checking it. It was journalistic malpractice and he needs to be held accountable. Let Minihane go after him like he did when Russo was on. I know lots of people don't like Minihane, but he's smart and vicious enough to tie Mort up in knots. If Mort bails and hangs up, he'll call him a gutless weasel. This is a PR war and there are no rules. Sure, the Patriots as an organization will take the high road, but the minions need not. Guerrilla tactics complement the effectiveness of the regular forces, if deployed ruthlessly. Go after every voice that has piled on the Patriots and undermine their credibility. Doesn't anyone have a killer instinct?

Amen. Outside New England, people see it as "close enough." They ignorantly don't understand there is a HUGE difference between 1 to 1.25 PSI compared to 2 PSI given the atmospheric conditions.

1 to 1.25 PSI = Mother Nature
2 PSI = Suspicious

Fortunately the average ball was in the 1-1.25 range, and out of the 11 balls with 22 measurements, only 1 of 22 said 10.5. 1 of 22 is a loooooooooooooooooooong way from 11 of 12.

"I can't name names, but I was lied to be high ranking members in the NFL offices." would be a pretty good answer.
I'd take that.
