well, pash has said in the past that the patriots have been cheating for years, so I doubt it was a kind edit
Even Kraft went after Pash only. Seems like that is he focus of the investigation from Brady' side. Why does kraft think it was Pash but not goodell himself who is the bad guy here?

I think it's about what they can prove, moreso than what actually happened.

Thats a big statement. They have to have some proof of this.

I read the whole thing. (Luckily i can read about 500 words a minute. :))

Later on it says, IIRC, that Wells flat out admitted as much when he testified at the appeal.

Wow. Somehow I'd missed or forgotten that Wells testified at the appeal.

I'm sure he's prudent enough not to technically perjure himself. So I'm guessing he'll claim that he's independent, but under shrewd questioning will reveal enough evidence of bias to hang the NFL.

And if he ever evades questioning by citing privilege -- well, that's one of the few things that COULD swing public opinion back to the right place. After all, the NFL's core claim now is that innocent people have nothing to hide ...

Any chance wells turns on goodell? I mean he's got his 5 big ones. Unless he somehow has a written agreement or in his contract, wells could come out clean also by disowning this mess
No, Goodell is Wells' cash cow. He's already collected big sums from at least two "investigations" for the NFL with likely more to come assuming Goodell survives.

I don't think so as that bridge was burned. The next time Goodell says, "I'll let Wells conduct an independent investigation" I expect DeMaurice Smith and the NFLPA to say " the hell you are" and the NFL will find another "hired gun".
The fact that the NFL invoked attorney-client privilege wrt Wells releasing his investigative notes tells you everything you need to know about his "independence"..

Is this "independent" sham something that would strengthen a possible defamation suit?

That I believe is Kraft's fatal flaw. He just can't admit to himself that he has been duped all these years by Goodell and IMO will continue to be duped. So he blames everybody but Goodell even when the world knows otherwise. I am not convinced that in the end there won't be another couch session.
