About that exploding cell phone. You know, the one that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell seems to think belonged to Machine Gun Kelly and was used in the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby, as well as the Krupp diamond theft. The one that Ted Wells said he didn’t want or need in order to complete his investigation into DeflateGate. The one the NFL’s own investigator said wasn’t necessary to the case.

That one.

I love the way she writes. Straight to the point.

Good article, nice reminders of the facts that all information requested was produced, AND admitted to by the requesters.

Uh Oh....hope Jerry Thornton took a cold shower after reading this.

very fun read

But how is all this going to change anything. Makes me mad and helpless but what are they going to do about it ? The court case is just if commish violated CBA, not about all sham investigation.

The NFLPA filing extensively describes all of the problems with the report, basically to establish that the entire investigation was conducted with a clear agenda.

Yes. But NFLPA George Atallah clearly said that the court case is not about the psis or whethere brady did it or not or if it was an independent investigation or not or if goodell and nfl ran a sting operation or not.The case is going to be about commish's abuse of CBA.
So all this stuff about how crap the nfl investigation was is all known but NFL people are not going to suffer for it . Only the pats will. Thats what rages me. All these pro articles and kraft throwing support is good to read and hear but how does it effect what was ruled I dont know.Maybe kraft needs to file a case or something. Not even sure he can now anymore . Just tired of looking uphill without much support.

Is there a way that the Globe could trade Volin and Shank to the
WashPost for Sally?

Only way WP takes those two chuckleheads is in a salary dump as there is little value coming their way.

Very well written and good article. Hit some very important points.

You don't seem to realize that the one directly relates to the other.. The SHAM of an investigation did violate the CBA..

But what happened here is tied in to the NFLPA's complaints.

Namely, that if the NFL is trying to punish Brady for not turning over the phone, then they have a big problem, because they didn't tell him that he could be punished for not doing so, and the CBA demands that players be notified of the charges against them.

If they try to argue that he's being punished for "awareness" of deflated footballs, they still have a problem, since they're apparently trying to do it under a policy that does not apply to players.

And then even if you resolve those issues, you still have the fact that Goodell ginned up a rigged appeal in which Brady's team didn't have access to the facts that the "independent" investigator had; moreover, the "independent" investigator was actually one of the attorneys for the NFL in the appeal.

Sigh.
Folks are conflating Brady innocence issues with the Labor Law issues that are in play with the court.

You guys obviously know more than I do. But from what I have heard, the court case wont have brady testifying or anyone else related to establish what happened or didnt happen with the footballs or what wells did or didnt do. ITs going to be all about the CBA violation. I hope Iam w rong and all these people take the stand and rip apart the invetigation but dont know If that is going happen .

At the rate the Globe is going, they'll be bought out or laid off fairly soon.

If you're talking about the stuff that could lead to a defamation lawsuit, yes, you're correct; that likely will not come up here.
