So Blount fails a conditioning test that I probably could have passed...?

I am in really good shape, I run a lot, train for half-marathons and run pretty fast (7 min miles in a 5k). 20 sprints of 50 yards at 8 seconds each seems pretty difficult to me.

I wonder how Jonas Gray fared in his conditioning test?

Just needs to work on his VO2 in the next couple weeks, he has the weights and power...work on the wind and get in the weight room, stay away from the chips and doobies...

Thats it? 20 50 yard sprints in 8 seconds? When I played high school football. We had to do 100 yard sprints 18 times under 18 seconds for our conditioning test!

Uphill both ways?

This is like deja vu all over again, every year a player or two allegedly does not pass the conditioning test, and eventually shows up on the field and we forget quickly that he failed the conditioning test..

But we never really know if he actually failed the conditioning test.. maybe BB will be forthcoming in tomorrow's presser;);).

BB 7/31/2005 Press conference schedule

  1. Spend 5 minutes laying out precisely how I feel about Deflategate
  2. Spend 3 minutes explaining every failure of the conditioning test
  3. Spend 8 minutes detailing every injury that lingered into the offseason
  4. Spend 25 minutes answering every reporter's questions in vivid detail

20 sprints is very difficult I'd imagine most average males can't do it. That said I have been hoping blunt screws up royally so bb is forced to play the youngsters. The suspension and this probably won't be enough, hopefully he sleeps in one day.

Then he will close by disclosing his innermost feelings about Roger Goodell.. and finally tell us why he and Richard Seymour had a falling out.

Need more info. Was he wearing his Super Bowl ring? If so, I totally understand how it can weigh him down. Solution: take off ring.

1) It is certainly not unusual (or unreasonable) for a player coming off an injury list to fail a conditioning test. I'm more interested in how good a shape he is in Game 3 or Game 13.

2) All the kids will get their chances at reps. Blount certainly doesn't need the reps in camp or in the preseason.

3) Blount is an average NFL running back. I'd be fine if kids beat him out for reps during the season. However, Blount is certainly good enough to be a backup on our 53 man squad.

4) The coaches will figure out which of the kids to keep and which to waive. My GUESS at this point is that Gaffney has the best shot at making the 53.

5) BTW, there is no reason to carry an extra RB for Game. One is almost always inactive. For Game One, Blount will be the man not dressing.

6) BOTTOM LINE - PICK TWO
Cadet, White, Gaffney, Lewis, Gray
=======

For me, Blount and Bolden are locks as RB's. Develin is a FB/TE and wouldn't be replaced by a RB, even if he is beaten out for his position. Bolden is a top special teamer, and a backup in all RB roles. Blount could be backup, or be our #1 and major ball carrier. It is the kids (and Cadet) that are the question marks.

I believe the conditioning test goes something like this:
20 sprints with thirty seconds rest after each sprint, with the exception being 1 minute after the 10th one. (Assuming to simulate halftime)

Linemen: 40 yards/under 6 seconds

LB, FB, QB, P, K, TE: 50 yards/under 7 seconds

DB, WR, RB: 60 yards/under 8 seconds

Yes. This is what Bru said a few years ago...

He played at ~245-250 which is Blount's size.

Tedy: My test was three sets of ten 50-yard sprints. You had to complete each sprint in seven seconds, and you had 30 seconds in between each sprint. In between the three sets of ten 50-yard sprints, you got a break of three minutes.

It's tough for trucks with snow tires and in 4WD to go fast a long time. As long as they get you somewhere in December, January and early February is when they pay off. :p

You: 5'5", 160 pounds
Blount: 6'0", 250 pounds
I'm actually a college receiver. No I'm not 250. I'm also certainly not 160

i won't go I to all the specifics, but our test is longer than 50 yards and more than 20 reps. This coming from a d3 college. He's an nfl running back

250 lb RB v. 200 lb RB = Big difference

Well, you are clearly in better shape than Blount, cookie?

i know. I'm not saying I'm a better athlete. sorry for bringing myself into this.

my point was that i am no where close to being a starter in the nfl. he has 500 pounds on me. that's a big deal. but these guys should be wayyyy more capable than me.

my point is just that if football is your job and you have a reasonable conditioning test, it doesn't seem like you should fail it

Unless you're, I dunno, still recovering from surgery.
