I'm so happy to see this! Just seen lead story coming up on Today Show is Tom Brady destroyed his cell phone. Anyone want to bet if they will even to bother to give Tom's explanation or they'll just stick with the whole he DESTROYED it.?

Don't expect him to say a lot to the press after this. He'll do a Belichckian "I've said what I had to see, and we're on to football", possibly however with the non-Belichickian nuances:
  • "Helloooo -- court case! Of course I'm not go say anything new from here."
  • An expression of his emotions about all this.

I trust Brady's word about 1000x more than any of the drooling morons in the league office. He's the only person in this entire freak show with an ounce of integrity.

He's going to go kick their asses, and I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it.

So, who wants to place bets on whether the media will cover Brady's response as heavily as they covered the NFL's report last night?

He said about all he could say. No evidence of any wrong doing and yet he is still punished because the commissioner wrongly believes he has a right to look through someone's phone. If this happened to Luck or Rodgers, the entire USA would be calling for Goodell's head.

Don't worry. I truly believe this will get to court and that Roger will finally go down. If Mr Kraft hadn't stuck his head up his own *ss, it would be even clearer.

EDIT: After Mr Kraft's contribution to the presser, I've upped my confidence. Whatever the jurisdiction, the discovery process is going to turn up some hot stuff.

This is a brilliant post. He makes it clear multiple times he did not do anything, he does not hesitate or beat around the bash he is decisive in his statement of innocence. I am thrilled he did this.

I have watched Tom Brady on and off the field for a decade and a half, he has never proven to be anything more than a stand up man. Goodell has proven to be the opposite a lying, manipulative, prick. Brady wins hands down in any truth contest.

McCann was on with D & H yesterday and made that point in terms of the NFLPA suit this ha zero bearing on the case. Clearly the NFL knows that Brady is being railroaded and is playing the PR game.

Yeah, the whole destroying of the cell phone was totally a war of public perception. The thing is I wonder if this will open up the NFL for a defamation suit from Brady. If Brady told the NFL the cell phone broke and he replaced it and not that he instructed his assistant to destroy it, the NFL outright lied to sully his image. And it is in writing.

Hopefully people on this board can relax a bit now. I never doubted his innocence this whole time, but I am glad to see something from him anyway. If the media will take Roger Goodell's word at face value yesterday, not taking Tom Brady's today proves the agenda they have. Also, this should shut up all the hacks complaining about Brady keeping quiet.

And Ben Volin is an idiot.

Has their been anyone's behavior more repulsive than Albert Breer and Ben Volin in all this? Their Richards are so effing hard right now ... All you need to do is read Breer's twitter for maybe 3 seconds, and come to the conclusion that he is such a PR Machine .. Wow.. No professionalism

I think Brady is going to file a defamation case against the NFL now. The funny thing is that the one reason all the "experts" said he would never do it is irrelevant now. He cannot turn over his telephone now.

Two caveats on your prediction:

1. I don't think he'll file a defamation case right away. His priority is the labor law case, which will be judged on procedural rather than substantive grounds.

2. If the labor law case is settled rather than litigated to a conclusion, the possibility of a defamation case might go away as part of the settlement.

As McCann points out, the defamation case can't stop the suspension, Brady doesn't need the money from any damages he could get, and winning as a public figure is hard anyway. So his motivations for filing that case are likely limited to:
  • Destroy Goodell.
  • Clear his name in the court of public opinion.

Playing football is a higher priority for him than either of those.

I mean really, in a case where Brady says X and Goodell says Y, shouldn't people consider the reputation of the two men when deciding who to believe?

Brady: by all accounts an upstanding man, loving husband and father, seemingly genuinely nice person, winner

Goodell: repeatedly beaten in court, determined to have lied in player proceedings by a judge, appears to be a complete buffoon

The choice between the two should be clear. Unfortunately the public and the media are so jealous of the Patriots that they can't see this.

I saw that this morning. Honestly, through this whole thing the first news drop paints us in a horrible light, everyone flips out here, then our side counters and everyone calms down. Why can't we learn to wait before flipping out.

I do not care about any of this, at this point, except at it maligns my favorite player and the GOAT and ruins my enjoyment as a Patriots fan. I don't think I could be any more done with the NFL….I was starting to creep into old excited feelings about the season but that is DONE now.

I am a fan of the Patriots, their specific players, and Bill Belichick and certain members of our coaching staff. And that's about it at this point.

If Volin does not get a national job, he is done around here I tell you. He better try and get a job at NFL.com or ESPN. Only Felger may read his piece.

I wonder if Brady still has that Samsung phone laying around. If he does, he should say here it is, but no way in hell i'm handing it over.

Good to see he is sticking up for the ball boys (never should have been suspended by team). If they had "the goods" on Brady they would have sold out to some tabloid months ago.
